Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
2 pounds round steak
1/2 all-purpose flour
1/2 t. salt
1/2 t. black pepper, divided
2 T. canola (veg.) oil
1 cup chopped onion
1/2 c. chopped bell (green) pepper
1/4 c. soy sauce
1/2 t. garlic salt
Cut steak into serving-sized pieces. Combine flour, salt and 1/4 t. pepper; sprinkle over steak and pound into both sides. In a skillet over med.heat, brown steak on both sides in oil. * Trasfer tp a greased 13x9 baking dish;top with onion and green pepper. Drizzle with soy sauce;sprinkle with garlic salt and remaining pepper. Cover and bake at 325 for 1 and 1/2 hours or until meat is tender.
(As a short cut, I sometimes use a 2 pound pkg. of stew beef already cut up. I roll it in the flour mixture and brown in oil, as above. Then I use a cooking bag rather than a baking dish and it tenders up real good. and no mess to clean up.)
How To Prepare:
* I have 2 sets of cooking instructions above. I have done it both ways.
