menopause and sleep issues
Hi All: I have always been able to sleep really well until I went through menopause. Now I can fall asleep fairly easily but wake up after an hour or so of sleep and am awake for 2-3 hours. I get up at 5:00 am for work so I average about 5 hours of sleep at night and it is really taking a tole on me. Does anyone who has gone through menopause and have this problem and been able to solve it. Any ideas for a nights sleep would really be appreciated! Thanks all!

Hormones. They help. Check with your doc. You may need some. You have to sleep

I started using an estrogen patch after I began having horrible hot flashes. The patches make a big difference in the quality of sleep. My doc is the same age I am & she agrees & uses the patch herself. After about 1 year of use I had to cut them in half & that worked to stop bleeding issues.

Thank you all. I asked my OBGYN about this but he would not give me hormones. I may have to get another doctor.

melatonin. try the time release tablets.

or else wait and take a regular (not time release) one as soon as you wake up the first time. be sure not to take it if you are going to have to get up within 5 hours though! you should experiment when you don't have to get up for work the next morning to see how long they make you groggy. it might be less than 5 hours for you, you have to see.

I still have insomnia some, but I LOVE melatonin!
