PMS and Carb Cravings

It seems like I undo all my hard work when PMS strikes. Can't stop eating carbs. Once I take that first bite, all my low carb principles are out of the window. Anyone has any words of advise? TIA

Yes ma'am. Don't take that first bite. The best way to prevent carb issues is by never starting.

Maybe prepare a lc treat in advance so you don't nosh on carbs in the first place. You know it is gonna happen once a month so plan for it.

Agree! SF chocolate pudding made with HWC and milk does it for me. Takes about 5 minutes to prepare (I make it w a hand mixer so it is extra fluffy).

Hi tobelowcarber, no words of advice here but just wanted to say, I feel your pain. I started doing low carb (again) about two weeks ago and was able to put mind over matter for all cravings until today when I got my period.

I had a couple of cookies and some potato chips and they honestly made me feel really good. My normal intake during my first day of my period is about twenty ibuprofens, a half gallon of milk, a burger (with roll), a bag of chips and a couple of hershey bars. So today I had about seven potato chips and two chocolate chip cookies (and a bunch of ibuprofen). I'm not going to beat myself up over it -- I had a few carbs and I loved them, I could have had way more carbs but I didn't, and tomorrow's another day.

For me, it's always been the first day of my period when I have these major cravings (whether I'm on low carb or not), and then I have no appetite for a day and a half and then go back to normal. So I guess I figure if I have an "off" day once a month, it's not the end of the world.

Anyway, good luck to us all!

yea I have to say---DON'T TAKE THE FIRST BITE! cause when you do you spiral down so fast it is insanity.

for me it is sweets. not a monster craver but in pre-menapause now and every now and then I got the worst cravings for chocolate. I always have 76% choc. squares, 25 cal. 4 carb diet swiss miss hot cocoa. SO BE prepared with LC stuff around. you might eat a bit much, but you stay on plan without going into that higher carb foods.

Just have the LC options at the end of your fingtertips at all times. that is what saves me, plus knowing they are there, most times I can pass them by. Just knowing I can get to them makes me happy and don't need them as much as I would think LOL

Eat fat instead. I get these insane crazy animal urges to eat my weight in fatty pulled pork when my time arrives.

Ugh, I feel your pain! I struggle mightily with this every month. I don't always succeed in not overeating, but I make sure that if I overeat, it's on fat and protein, not carbs.

I also have good luck drinking coffee or eating pickles to keep the worst of the cravings at bay.

I know it sounds wierd, but pickles, green olives, kalamata olives and feta cheese - something salty and strong tasting usually help me if I have a really bad craving. That or fat, like others have mentioned - a few peices of bacon - and I can usually tamp it down. Cravings totally suck
