aha..interesting.
See, my blood labs showed my estrogen sky high (like cancer causing sky high) and progesterone barely registering so a HUGE imbalance= weight gain and metabolism tanked...
You need a testosterone boost too!

The good news is my friends that made the bio-identical change feel great. My shock was that it only was $100 for all 3 prescriptions, I hope in November, I am glad that I invested in this process.

Tracy, I told my daughter that I think it will be rough going to dump the estrogen, but once it is released and balanced she should see relief. At least my progesterone is pina cola flavor.

WOE: Atkins for first 65 pounds, then HCG
Start Date: Nov 1, 2011
Before I started losing weight, I did the bio identical hormones. I did the blood test and saliva test and the doctor put me on about 10 different things. When I started trying to lose weight, I could not lose at all. The doctor tried to figure out what it was for awhile and then told me it was NOT what she was giving me - well I knew it was. So I told her I was going to quit all of it until after my weight loss. She agreed that might be best. I have lost 91 pounds so far. I did feel WONDERFUL on all of the vitamins and the hormones she had given me, but I am not able to do this while losing weight. I will go back and do it again after I finish my weight loss - my husband actually continued with it and his levels are all perfectly normal now.

Wow Cara! Congrats on your 91 lb weight loss. Do you think the hormones competed with the HCG or were you on Atkins at the time. I have to say that I am feeling good with lots of energy. I will weigh tomorrow and follow my protocol doing High fat, mod carbs. Will be trial and error. Were you off balance with estrogen? Just wondering. What food plan really helped you? Did you have thyroid or any other issues before.

I started a new program with a new gyno doctor two weeks ago. I am tired of suffering with these hormonal issues. I want my life back damnit!!

I did the HRC pellet program for a year. The first implant was great. Felt like I was in my 30's again. I could not ever get back to that feeling with other 3 inserts. I felt like I was on a roller coaster of PMS systems. I was due to start my second year this past February I told them "no thanks."

I white knuckled it basically since then. I sure hope this new doc can fix me.

I so empathize with you Ironicwoman. It is not a fun roller coaster ride and we didn't purposely by a ticket! Good luck with your journey thru this hormone jungle.

Wow.. everyone seems so incredibly different as for symptoms and reaction to treatments.. sigh..
I shipped my sample last monday morning.. still havent heard anything..double sigh..

Do the GYNs base your treatment soley on symptom/ symptom relief or do you still have to periodically do the saliva sample again?

He asked me what symptoms I was having and I said "all of them." Which is true. Extreme fatigue, foggy thinking, memory issues, night sweats, hot flashes, joint pain, NO libido, mood swings, sleep issues, depression, loss of a sense of well-being.

He started me on Estrogel (prescription) (which I apply to my thigh every morning) and a progesterone pill (prescription) that I take at night. Been doing that for about two weeks. Haven't noticed much, I am sleeping better but I guess that's the progesterone.

He called Friday to give me the results of my labs (bloodwork, not saliva). Thyroid is "fine", glucose and blood counts are "good."
Testosterone is low, DHEA is low, Vitamin D3 is low.

He prescribed a testosterone cream that I apply to my "groin area" everyday. I started on DHEA and the Vitamin D3. I didn't get the actual numbers since this was done over the phone. I go back in 2 weeks for a checkup and maybe more bloodwork to see if any of this is helping.

I'm at my wit's end with this nonsense.

I just got my saliva hormone profile results.
Estradiol is 1.1 (1.3-3.3)
Progesterone is 55 (75-270)
Ratio: Pg/ E2 is 50 (100-500)
Testosterone is 36 (16-55)
DHEAS is 5 (2-23)
Corisol AM is 6 (3.7-9.5)

SSOOOOO- im progesterone deficient. I knew it. This Bio doc is very, very anal about when to test/ treat and how much. Apparently it is a very specific thing. She is starting me on progesterone cream from day 10-24 of each month and wants me back in 6 weeks. She also wants me to have my fasting blood sugar done to rule out diabetes.
Maybe, I can FINALLY get some relief.

I am glad you finally got your results. Validation that your hormones are off. I think it is wise to start with Progesterone. It is the one hormone (liquid) that I am actually liking right now. The estrogen is giving me headaches. Time will tell. I will have to let the process work. Why is she suspecting diabetes? Do you have a history or does she think you may have insulin issues?

Oh, how many meds are you on?
See, ive poured over the internet over the last few weeks reading people's reactions to the hormones and I was about ready to scream.. and cry..

My doctor said she wants to hold off on giving me any estrogen yet. She said in all of the years that she has done this, not one single patient has complained about side affects. She was SOOO thorough. So thorough that I was beginning to look at the clock,
She said it is wise to start very small and then add other hormones if needed that way we know which hormone is the culprit if something is wrong.

When I look up progesterone deficiency, all of my symptoms are spot on. Im thrilled. She faxed the RX to the compounding pharmacy right in front of me and told me to pick it up tomorrow.
I'll see her back in 6 weeks. I want to do a strict elimination diet when I start this to see what happens.. so ready for change.
My thyroid blood work will be done in 2 weeks.. i still think im not on the right dose.
I have diabetes all in my family. Type 1 and 2. She just wants to err on the side of caution.

I cant imagine buying these meds over the net and self medicating without testing and without a doc.. i would mess me up horribly!

I so agree. I was glad to have the ZRT test. I like how I am feeling right now, we will see. I am going to hit it hard for the next 21 days with no starch or sugar. I wanted to give my body a few days to get use to the new hormones. I was up and out of bed so happy today. I can't remember the last time I felt good! Please let this be the answer!!!

I can only imagine how delicate our systems are and how easily they get wonky. I feel horrible.
I hope to have some success like you. She told me to apply the cream at night to the inside of both forearms and rub the forearms into my thighs. Interesting. She said dont touch with my hands.

Im shocked at how many delivery methods there are.
She said unless I have sensitive skin (i dont) that the cream shouldnt irritate my skin.
She said I will be floating on a cloud in no time.. well, we'll see

Blugg: Good luck with your research. I hope you find out what is needed. All I can say is I wish that I had done this earlier. I am up cleaning before work and feeling quite energetic. I slept really well last night. I am only in week one, but something (maybe the 3 hormones) is helping me feel like my "old self". I plan on working out before work. I haven't done that in years. My biggest shocker was the cost of the bio-identical hormones. Compounded for me and only $100. I was prepared to pay $1000. I think I thought that was what going this route would run me. I am only $340. into this discovery. So very much worth it.

One thing to look at, when did you Mom go thru her change and have you had any surgeries?

Most insurance companies will cover the cost of blood labs to see what might be going on but in my opinion (and my doctors) it doesnt even come close to getting to the root of the problem. I had 3 different doctors tell me my labs were "fine"..
The saliva profile showed it wasnt. Not just that, but lab ranges are just too broad to really give you an idea of what is low and what is high. I would go straight for the saliva profile if possible...

Helpingrachel: ok, if your (3) meds combined are only $100.00 maybe mine will be a little lower than that but im with you, id pay anything at this point to get my health back!

I will!

I booked an appointment with a nurse practitioner for Oct. 15th. The profile I read on her said she treats with bioidentical hormones only. I'm hoping she'll do a saliva test for me. The blood panel I paid out of pocket for last month showed my estradiol at 560. The panel didn't include progesterone though. When I had a saliva test done a few years ago my progesterone level was 13. I don't remember what my estrogen was.

I sure hope you get to cloud 9 soon!!

Oh my gosh, we are retired military and we get a statement each time we have blood work done and what the insurance company was charged. Those blood labs are EXPENSIVE. And honestly worthless when it comes to your hormonal health.
Estradiol was 560? Whoa. But thats blood, not saliva, right?

I called the pharmacy today to check on the progest cream and the associate looked me up and said the compounding pharmacist wouldnt be in to fill the script until Friday and the cost would be $25

So, no new results to report.. I have taken the progest for the last two nights, after a shower, about an hour before bed, right on the forearms. No red skin, no weird side affects.. no changes yet.

Ladies, those of you who've done the hormones, how long before you see any results? Is this something that may two 2-3 rounds to get to feeling better?

4 nights of the progest cream under my belt.. sleeping good.. scale is budging and last night.. had a tiff with DH.. i usually go straight from cocked eyebrow to door slamming and curse words
I calmly ended the conversation with WELL.. i see.. good night. We will discuss this tomorrow.
And then I actually slept beside him and not another word was said. That is 10000000000000X NOT me.

So.. maybe, maybe, maybe im on the mend.
Im pretty sure if my symptoms disapear.. im going to drive to my gynos office and kiss her on the mouth and then go on over to the compounding pharmacy and kiss him too
