Here is how my pg went:
8wks - first appt, dating u/s 12 wks - NT scan (basically another u/s) 20 wks - anatomy scan u/s 32 wks - another u/s because baby was measuring big Not everyone does the dating u/s and here in CA they now do the NT scan as part of basic prenatal care. It is not uncommon to have your first u/s at 18-22 wks. They will typically use the doppler to check for hb around 12 or 14 wks. Amy - I know this is lame to hear but hang in there, Im sure everything is fine and your LO is growing big and strong! ![]() Lori - Congrats on the healthy diagnosis! ![]() The motion sickness thing must be a myth too because I get terrible motion sickness and never had MS! ![]() Menu for the day: B - coffee w/ cream, strawberry protein shake S - 2 mini coconut muffins L - salad bar from the deli down the street D - making chicken fajitas and guacamole ![]()

When I go for us's (hospital), they don't even turn on the 3D/4D thing until they are are in the late 20 weeks...I remember asking why and they said that the baby does not have any fat on it in the beginning so it's pretty odd looking (I'm paraphrasing of course).
Yes, KQT is right, I guess when you are considered "high risk", you just get more ultrasounds. I had about 3 the first 8 weeks (started before there was even a hearbeat). These were all internal ultrasounds since the baby was so tiny at that point! I started at a RE office just because I liked how closely they followed me with Brandon--even though we didn't use interventions to get pregnant. We did try some interventions with them, but they didn't work and we wound up getting pregnancy naturally thanks to LC, Metformin and Synthroid. But I continued on with them and they tested my blood levels all the time and put me on supplemental progesterone in the beginning too since my levels were so low (and hence risk of a m/c). They followed me until 8 weeks I think until I "graduated" to my regular OB. Then I had a dating US at around 10 weeks with my regular OB. Then a sequential screen one (genetic test) at 12 ish weeks. Then the anatomy one at 20 weeks. Then one at 24 weeks, 28 weeks, and I have one tomorrow at 33 weeks. Once I hit 35 weeks, I am getting them weekly. So glad DH has good health insurance, I could never afford this without insurance! I have also started weekly non-stress tests at 32 weeks. I always assumed it was normal to get so many but now I realize that because they consider me high risk (advanced maternal age, PCOS, gestational diabetes, probably obesity too), I get a whole lot more than the average person. Which I guess isn't a bad thing because I usually walk out of the perionatiologist office feeling good about how things are going since they can verify right from the ultrasound. I can totally understand worrying when you don't have them so often, I would be worrying too!!

Oh, and on the morning sickness thing-I've heard that with a girl, you are likely to get worse morning sickness. Which is why I believed that this baby was a girl (with Brandon, I had very little to no morning sickness). With this baby, I had ALL freaking day sickness!
Imagine my surprise when I learned it was a (not shy) boy!! So, yeah, I don't believe that old wive's tail now! Two boys, and two totally different pregnancies! ![]() P.S. I don't really get motion sickness at all.....DH does though. Wonder if that factors in? ![]() |

We had the 4D done with our son at 16 weeks. I paid for an extra ultrasound so my mom could see and the tech asked if she could practice on us. Of course I said yes! But yes, very skeletal looking still with little fat. It was still very neat to see his fingers and toes
![]() Here they do them at 8ish weeks for dating and then at 20ish for the anatomy and check. That's it. |

Have you charted at all? I highly recommend the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility. You can chart your cycles on their website and it can help you identify O and time things accordingly. At the very least you can get a handle on your cycles and know if you are ovulating or not. Hang in there! ![]() |

SoCaligirl, I had weight problems that prevented me from getting pregnant too. I was the opposite, too thin, but we ended up in the same place- not pregnant due to our weight.
You can do this. You really want to get your eating under control before you get pregnant. Being a mom requires 100% and if you are still battling the food demons, you cannot be there 100%. If you believe in God, pray about it, ask God and your friends and family for help. I ended up seeing a therapist and did acupuncture. I did whatever I could to get my weight under control. I am so glad I did! |

I was over 300 pounds and dropped 95 pounds with the goal of having a baby. The last 50 came off very very slowly. In Feb I went off my very strict plan to start cleansing my body and preparing for making a baby, I gained 30 pounds in 3 months regardless of how healthy and how many calories I ate. I have major metabolism issues. I weigh more then I wish I did now, but I'm so grateful I'm not as heavy as I was. Do what you can, to lose what you can, we are here to help you in anyway we can!

Yes, join us in losing weight while TTC! I was totally overweight when I had DS but amazingly I had a fabulous pregnancy and only gained 12lbs. I am roughly the same weight I was then but while we are TTC I am sticking to LC and have already lost 12lbs. It gives me something to focus on while I wait for that BFP and it certainly doesnt hurt to lose some weight in the process.

Andi~Congrats on the 12 pounds!
What DPO are you? You probably could test now. I know I'm not helping. ![]() socaligirl! I'm 36 and trying for our first baby, so I understand the ticking clock You have plenty of time. Take a deep breath. It's going to be just fine. OPK's don't confirm ovulation. BBT charting is the best way to find out what's really going on with your cycle. In the meantime, fix what you know you have control over - your diet and exercise. Weight is a huge factor in the balance of our hormones. I can't tell you how many times I've read stories of women that can't get pregnant for years... then after 3 months of a LC diet, they're preggo. Andi and I are both TTC and following a LC diet. Please feel free to join us. When I was 303 I didn't ovulate at all. After some weight loss, I do ovulate, but it's late in my cycle. Because of the "weak" ovulation, the second half of my cycle is on the short end of normal. For the first 3 months of TTC, my diet was horrible, I was gaining weight, and I'm sitting there wondering why I can't get pregnant I've been back to LC for almost a week now, and I'm so glad to be here. I really believe a LC diet, exercise and some weight loss is going to do the trick for us. And if not, I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

Also, being low carb will really help you when pregnant. It helps keep your emotions somewhat under control. I still cried at everything though.

I am very unemotional, never cry. Just a serious person. I cried every single day I was pregnant, sometimes happy, sometimes sad, just cry, cry, cry! It was annoying!

I think they make those ASPCA commercials with pregnant women in mind - those sad animals almost always do me in when I'm pregnant, I have to completely avoid the commercial or the tears start!
Still some nausea here, but I think this is the farthest I've made it in a pregnancy without throwing up at all. Miraculous! My last OB appointment went well and according to the ultrasound my dates were right on the money with when I thought I ovulated, baby was in a good spot, strong heartbeat, nothing amiss for 9 weeks. My biggest battle is getting up the energy to exercise again. We have been ridiculously busy and that, with my fatigue, has made me turn into a bit of a weak dough ball. But once this primary season has passed (we're working with three candidates right now, ack!) on Aug 28th, I fully intend to reboot my schedule for the new homeschool year with exercise and piano practice back in. This hiatus has been driving me NUTS. How is everyone else holding up? Anyone in the 2WW?
