PCOS- anyone
Hi I posted in another board but someone said I might try this one. I have PCO and have had it for 20 yrs. I wanted to connect or just hear some success stories on weight loss from fellow PCOS "cyster's". I know there has to be some somewhere since low carb dieting is the best for this condition. I'd love to talk!

Sorry you haven't gotten any replies yet. There are a lot of people here with PCOS, and low carb is the very best thing you can do.
Welcome and hang in there! |

Hi Bpbeadles! I just joined lowcarbfriends and wanted to let you know that you are not alone. I too have PCOS and was officially diagnosed about two years ago. I love my Doc that diagnosed me. I had struggled for years to lose weight and no matter what I did- nothing worked to get me to my goal. My doc just so happened to spec in infertility so he knew all about pcos. He gave me a vaginal ultrasound (another story!)that confirmed I had it and gave me some info about it. From then on, I started researching and cutting out the carbs and I started losing. Thank God for Med Profs who care enough to take a little extra time to study charts. Unfortunately I can't see that Doc anymore- no ins- but I still love him all the same.

I also have PCOS. I knew what I was suppose to be doing but it was sooo hard. My husband is disabled so with me working all the time or being at the doctors office with him I did not want to much less feel like exercising. I ate lc but everytime I would feel a litte better I would eat like everyone else and go back to square one. I have now been placed on met extend release and love it. I am not a morning person but have made smaller goals. I wake early and walk a mile everyday, I am back to LC eating amd I also chart if I keep my daily goals. I still struggle with low energy but feel much better. I hope this helps.

I too have pcos and have for about 20 years as well. I am giving low carb a try for my pcos. I am on Met as well. I dropped about 40 lbs, got pregnant with my son and then went off LC during pregnancy. Before I got pregnant with him, I stalled at like 264 lbs and stayed there, but got pregnant. Fast forward 2 year and now I started on 2/21 and lost almost 20 lbs. in 3 weeks. BUT! My weight bobs around a loss of about 14-18lbs and just stays there and has for about 7 weeks. It seems that I lose but then stall. I am soooo confused by how many carbs and what kind of carbs to eat. Also wondering if I need to drop dairy which will totally bum me out. I have added extra Met, added more exercise, dropped my beloved nuts and almonds, dropped drinking milk and really have no other clue what to do. I think I'm gonna have to drop all dairy. I have read The Glycemic Load diet and I think it's much better balanced, adding healthy carbs...but worry that I am going to have to go super, super Atkins induction strict to lose. On top of it, my muscles ache and feel like they are burning, so I think something is off nutritionally. So...ho-hum, I keep going though.

I also have PCOS.
about 10 years ago I started low carbing and loved it- it was the fastest and easiest way for me to lose weight. At the time I was not TTC - so I was still on BCP (which also has always helped my PCOS stay under control)... I then had 3 kids (with the help of a wonderful RE, clomid+IUI, had a singleton + twins). I haven't LC'd since having kids - but I'm back on it since Monday and doing well. I know many women with PCOS- all do well on low carb diets! Best for us!! If you are, or plan to try to concieve - I know a lot about that, so feel free to ask any time. I'm an open book with my infertility issues - and was very fortunate to have luck with just clomid/IUI, but have many friends IRL and on message boads, who have done IVF, too. |

Low Carbing with PCOS
I too have PCOS. I was diagnosed about a year ago and have tried to stick to a low carbi diet but have had struggles. It truly is the best thing to help lose weight for people who have PCOS. My OBGYN also put me on Metformin which has helped as well. With a good diet and the meds I have been able to restore my cycles but still not able to conceive. I hope to lose the weight I need to lose and then go on a few rounds of clomid and hopefully will be successful. I hope this helps!

I also have PCOS. Years ago I would go 10 months without getting my period.
I doubt I was ovulating at all. I've been on a LC diet on and off for years and it's totally regulated my cycle. I also chart my cycle so I know I ovulate now. On months when I eat sugar, I either don't ovulate or it's a late or weak ovulation. We're trying for baby sometime this year, so I know I have to faithful to LC! |

I also have pcos. I hate it. My weight just keeps going up and up. I've been going low carb and watching my carbs for about a month now. I initially lost a few pounds of water weight but now it is not going down at all. 30-60 g of carbs a day is manageable for me but I can't get much below 30 without feeling dizzy and sick. My doctor put me on metformin last week but i feel like i need to give up cheese on top of the bread, rice and pasta I already gave up. I suspected pcos since 2003 but was not diagnosed until 2009. I was on metformin and then got pregnant with my son who just turned 2. We've been trying to have a second baby but I haven't had a period in 9 months and my doctor says I am not ovulating. I just want to lose weight.

You are not alone! I started LC really seriously the last couple of weeks
And I've lost 9 lbs. I want to lose 60 so we can start TTC. Right now birth control regulates my periods and doc won't let me go off it cause she says I'll get cysts so I have to wait until we are ready to have a baby to stop that. Other than BC I'm on Prozac for depression and that's all. |

I was also on prozac for depression but my doctor didn't renew it when I went in. Right now it seems like low carb eating is helping my depression. I think adding metformin is helping as I finally had a loss this morning. My main goal right now is to lose weight and to also have my cycles return. I want another baby and I want to be healthy for it. I had preeclampsia with my son starting at 34 weeks and was induced at 36 weeks and he spent a week in the nicu.
