I think pumping is more *weird* than nursing.
Have any of you read any food "sleep training" books? My LO won't sleep for very long if at all flat on his back. He has no problems playing on his back or being in his crib for awake time but when it comes to sleeping..naps or night time...the car seat or my chest are his fav. Occasionally I think he doesn't like being flat because of gas bubbles - he can be very gassy. Have you used any wedges in the cribs? |

So, I am ALWAYS HUNGRY. It's frustrating. I read other forums and went to a childbirth class, and everyone else this far along in pregnancy seems to say they can hardly eat anything because the baby has squished the stomach so much; they may eat many times a day, but not much at a time. I do NOT have this problem! I am pretty much eating constantly all day long. And I make sure to eat plenty of protein so I'm not just stuffing myself with unsatisfying carbs. I just ate a Lean Cuisine that had 23 grams of protein, plus I added a whole bunch of extra cheese on top for even more protein and fat, and yet I'm so ready to eat more/again. And I'm also not dehydrated (I know thirst can mess with you and make you think you're hungry when you're really not, so I'm making sure to stay hydrated). I didn't gain any weight between my last 2 OB appointments, but they were also less than a week apart, so we'll see how I fare on her scale next week!
Do you have a bouncy seat or anything else that is sort of slanted instead of completely flat? I've read not to use wedges due to risk of SIDS (seems like EVERYTHING increases the risk of SIDS...). I have also heard great things about the Fisher Price Rock N' Sleep for babies who don't like to sleep flat.

We have the Fisher Price Rock and Play Sleeper. It is awesome, Brandon spent most of his nights and naps in there for the first couple of months. We even brought it with us when we traveled to my parents' for Christmas (folds up very easily). It is supposed to hold babies up to 25 pounds. We still put him in there to hang out every once in awhile, but he sleeps in his basinet now mainly (although he is getting too big for that now!) Here is a picture of Brandon is his rock and play at Christmas (he was a little over 2 months).

He is a cutie! I just have the swing besides the car seat. Sam sleeps there on occasion. I was just stressing out over him not sleeping flat and feeling like maybe I was doing wrong by him since he generally needs to be held or pushed in his stroller to fall asleep. I have some telling me I'm spoiling him.

The Rock N Play saved our lives when DS was a tiny baby. He slept in it until he could sit up on his own then we moved him to the crib. He liked the way it snuggled him in all cozy and kept him at an incline so the gas bubbles were limited.

So I had a post that was pretty much saying that I agree blondie and I just needed to remind myself that his health and happiness are all that matter. Good habits are necessary, yes, but I still have plenty of time to establish them.
Thank you for the compliment |

Concurring on the "spoiling" topic - I keep reading that you can NOT spoil a child who is less than 3 months old because they don't understand enough to make the connection. At that young of an age, they just need whatever it is they need, including attention, contact, cuddling, etc. I've read recently parents whose babies are only a few WEEKS old, and they're worried about the baby's sleep schedule and not sleeping at night and whatnot. I just assume that, for the first 8-12 weeks of my baby's life, I'm his ***** :P

I do whatever is easiest and for me that means my baby is always on me. Andrew cried if I was not holding him and I hated hearing that, so I just held him all day.

While agree that you can't spoil a newborn, and that no harm will come from holding the baby as much as possible, I also don't think it harms a newborn to be gently nudged towards a schedule. Some of the "baby movements" out there take feeding-on-demand to an extreme, imo. I mean, if you want to nurse and hold constantly, great. But I eased each baby towards a 2-3 hour feeding schedule almost immediately and it worked out well. In fact, for *some* babies (those who don't show as much interest in nursing), it can be better to hold off a bit until they are more motivated to suck. Otherwise you can get a "snacker" who wants to nurse for 5 minutes, then nap, then nurse etc.
I also tried to let the babies fall asleep without being held *some* of the time once they were 8-10 weeks because imo it's a sensory "skill" that they need to develop and can start to develop around the 2-3 month mark. I say tried because honestly most of the time we conked out and napped together. That being said, it's totally inappropriate for anyone to tell you that you are "spoiling" your baby. I don't see me winning any mother-of-the-year awards over here, but my instincts are usually spot on and WERE spot on from when they were little babies. And so are yours!

Still around, waiting to test. I should be able to early next week. I'm worried about being overweight and getting pregnant, but don't want to wait too long. I feel fatter than ever today.

I hate the feeling of being fat.
I feel like a whale most of the time and not pregnant. I wish I looked more pregnant so people would say oh she's pregnant not fat. No one has said that to me...just the way I feel. 21 weeks to go... |

Nothing much new for me...still pregnant! 38 weeks and 3 days along with no signs of labor at all (which is a good thing since I Want to keep him in until after we move next weekend!).
We finally got a new closing date for our house; we'll go to settlement next Friday at 4pm and will be moving Saturday morning - jeez, nothing like cutting it close! They know I'm trying to control my blood pressure, right?! :P My parents will be up Thursday evening and stay through Monday to help us with the move and unpacking and such, which is awesome. I was hoping we'd be able to move some little things ourselves on Thursday and Friday, but now we won't get the keys until Friday evening. C'est la vie... So you're about 19 weeks? I didn't start to actually really look pregnant until I was about 22 weeks along, and even then it was still kind of questionable - I'd say more like 24-25 weeks along before I felt confident that I looked pregnant and not just fat. It's hard, but, as per usual, we are our own worst critics, and I bet others can either tell you're pregnant or don't actually notice much difference at all! |

I don't think I looked pregnant until I was close to 30 weeks...others said they noticed it before that but my own view...
My SIL started to look pregnant at like 10 weeks. ![]() I hate the feeling of being fat or even feeling fat too. Jilly - glad you got a new date but holy cow!!! I think my blood pressure would be through the roof! Good luck with the move. Make sure you have your burp cloths, diapers, wipes handy and not lost in a box |

So I am 8w2d today and I swear, I wake up not looking pregnant but by the end of the day I feel super puffy. I think its my uterus pushing my fat up and out. These jeans were loose on me when I wasn't pregnant and today I am a major muffin top!
I found out today that my BIL's gf is pregnant. The whole conversation was just completely bizarre, I am still stunned. She's the kinda girl, the oopsie I am pregnant too, wasnt even trying, haha. In my head I am thinking, do you know how hard we struggled?! My fear of another mc is completely elevated now, knowing that there will always be this competition with them. (my hubby and BIL are twins, they were born competing!) I know I should be happy for them, but I am so scared for my own baby right now that its hard to be happy for them! Sorry to sound so selfish, I am ashamed to feel that way. Pardon the hormones. I am off my rocker today. Jilly, I want to move you into your new house now! Please come back after you pop and show us pics of baby boy & nursery! Oregon, the first time I was at my highest at 225, the second time I was down to 203, and this time i was at 203 again. My BFF was at 250 and had 2 completely healthy, perfect pregnancies. Everybody reacts differently. My other prego friend was stick thin at 105 and she's having major pregnancy complications. Your body will know what to do and react accordingly. Sharon, brandon is a cutie!! I love his little jeans.

KQT - Your feelings are totally normal. My friend Kelly was pg with her 2nd when I was pg with DS and I was jealous all of the time too. Of course, being the great friend that she is, she totally took a backseat since it was my first and I will never forget that. Our kiddos are exactly 1 mo apart.
Your post reminded me of when DH and I got engaged and came to visit for Christmas and even though I told SIL we were going to surprise MIL & FIL with the announcement, she decided it was the perfect time to announce she was pg. I nearly fainted when she did it. I felt horribly guilty for feeling so jealous and like she stole my thunder when she miscarried 2 weeks later. ![]() Oregon, I was way overweight when I got pg with DS. I know is not ideal. That aside, I had a fabulous pregnancy. Not even a bump in the road until 36 wks when my BP shot up. I had a scheduled c-sect at 38 wks because of it but I loved my c-sect so it was all good! ![]()

She was so weird about it, she said she just found out and that she was due the beginning of oct so I asked how far she was (thinking at least 10 weeks?) and she said 8 weeks. I said I am 8 weeks and due 10/26. I didn't ask further like LMP because I was too surprised. I said it must be magical twin sperm. I will be happier, just need to process that it wont be all about me this time around.
Jilly and andi, thanks for your thoughts, I definitely see your point of views. I know its me, my perception and my struggles that caused me to be hurt, just wasn't ready for it! I just really wanted to give MIL her first grandchild and now I feel like its a race. But I can't compete with her, she's 9 years younger and her girly bits are way fresher than mine! Lol. |

I looked pregnant right away!
I could not get pregnant after Andrew and everyone was pregnant. I did not mind at all, I was happy for my friends. Do not be shy around people trying to conceive. Tell them about me, it only took me 9 years!! LOL I am 34 weeks and so looking forward to going on a diet! |

Thanks for understanding my bout of crazy. ![]() I really am appreciative of all of your thoughts. Thanks for bringing me off the ledge! I remember telling my friend when she was pg and I had just had a mc, it was like I felt absolutely no jealousy, only pure happiness for her, regardless of my situation. And friends with babies, I am truly happy for them and love their kids like my own. I guess I need to be the big sister here and be supportive of them. Not everyone walks the same path in life. |

Happy weekend!
Yesterday, I booked our moving company for next weekend, got another interior painting estimate for our townhouse, did some grocery shopping, and updated my budget spreadsheet of new house and townhouse expenses. I had such good intentions while grocery shopping - I bought blueberries and strawberries and red and green grapes...I was going to make some fruit salad to have at home to keep me away from junkier options. But when I got home, I realized my knives, bowls, tupperware, etc., is all already packed up, so I have nothing to use to MAKE the fruit salad! I'll still eat the fruit, but I definitely had a "duh" moment.Today, we have a breasfeeding class for 4 hours. I'm wondering what it is they will teach that will take 4 HOURS. But I suppose I've probably read/researched more than others, and if you're going in completely uneducated, there could be 4 hours' worth of information. Tomorrow, we have our hospital tour, so no rest for the weary! And then Monday, I'm visiting 3 daycare options (2 centers/facilities and one in-home), plus we're doing the final walk-through on our house. Oh, and I'm getting another estimate at our current townhouse for painting and landscaping. AND I'm having lunch with a friend (she is also pregnant, so we're having lunch at IHOP!). I can rest a bit on Tuesday - dogs go to the groomer at 8am, and then I'll get my car inspected at some point during the day (because, of course, that HAS to be due this month!), and then I will REST. I'm having more cramp-like pains down low in my abdomen and little in my back recently. It's mostly just in the mornings, and it's not across my entire uterus, so I don't think it's contractions, and it's not extremely painful, but it's just kind of an annoyance. heh, that really struck me as funny - how many people are normally eager to diet?? :P I do hope I'm able to get back on the wagon not too long after the birth. I won't push it too early since I fully anticipate being completely exhausted, so I'm sure convenience will prevail over all else for the first couple of weeks. |

Holy cow jilly! I hope with all you have going on that you are at least giving yourself the gift of full night's sleep (if you can). I felt like that going into our breastfeeding class as well. Some of the info was helpful, a lot was repeative of the other classes I had taken.
Good luck this week - take care! |

Ladies with blood sugar knowledge, I have a question. The last couple of days I have been waking up around 3 or 4am feeling shaky or jittery, it's almost like an adrenaline surge or a super startled kind of feeling. It takes me awhile to fall back asleep. Then I take my FBS around 6am and it's mid-90's. Is this one of those examples where I should be eating some protein before bed and it will help that go away?
