Yay Asher is a fighting boy! Soon you will be amazed he ever needed to be there in first place.

My college class takes us out on a boat ride and to a clam/oyster hatchery today. I only had one opportunity to pump during the day yesterday - ended up sitting in my car for kprivacy. Will likely have to do the same today.

thinking good thoughts for lizzy and asher! he's finally here! i hope you start feeling better and on the mend and that the little guy improves more and more each day.

26w and feeling large, i have definitely slowed down. if i would have let myself i think i could've slept from 7pm straight through this morning. I've had my eye on a certain quilt set and finally took the plunge and ordered it. i'm glad to have that out of the way because it was out of stock on babies r us and target so i was kinda nervous that i wouldn't find it anywhere else - and it popped up on overstock for way less. score! up next is committing to the furniture.

Hi everyone,
I'm new to this board, but not to LCF. I've been eating LC for the past year and a half, and I recently got married in May.
WELL - I just found out that I am about 5w pregnant. We weren't TTC, so this was a big surprise to both of us (but a happy one). I'm not sure how I'm supposed to eat, but I would like to keep it LC or at least moderate carb. Most of all, i'm just here for support! This is a first for me, so i'm a little scared!

I may actually get to go to bed at a reasonable hour tonight! I've been staying up late working. Friday is my birthday, but I'm going to have to work over the weekend. C'est la vie...

I know I haven't been posting my menus lately, but I HAVE been staying on track! Here's how today went:
  • cheese slices
  • roasted pumpkin seeds
  • 2 hotdogs with melted cheese and reduced sugar ketchup
  • Atkins bar (once I've been doing well for a few weeks, I'll cut these out, as I consider them essentially junk food, but I use them as a crutch to help get me going)
  • baked chicken breasts marinated in Italian vinaigrette topped with parmesan and mozzarella cheeses, side of microwave-steamed baby broccoli florets with butter and parmesan cheese
  • will have a protein shake later for a snack/dessert since I didn't have one for breakfast like usual (didn't have time)
Welcome, AmyLiz! There is no harm in staying low-carb throughout your pregnancy, and it will likely even help you avoid many of the "common" pregnancy issues. I stayed low-carb throughout my first 1.5 trimesters, and I had a SUPER easy pregnancy. Of course, I have no way of knowing if it would have been harder if my diet had been different, but I plan to stick with what worked when I get pregnant in the future with #2

Congrats and I am a first time Mom as well.. just had my son on 6/26. This board has been awesome to help with any ?s and of course for the diet support! I didnt do much LC my first trimester and def saw the effects from a rapid weight gain... I did go back to LC for the rest of my pregnancy and Ill agree with Jilly... my pregnancy was super easy, i felt healthy the whole time and had an extremely quick delivery (lol 1 hr of labor). I did not have any issues and neither did baby. I did gain abt 40 lbs which my Dr was happy about...but if I would have done LC for the 1st tri.. I know it woulda been less. Anywho.. I def recommend it I am back on board with eating and workouts now that I am 3 weeks post partum. Hope you enjoy the board!

Jilly...do u track cals? I wonder whether Im eating enough etc. Today I am at alil over 1300. My carbs for today is 20. I agree that Atkins bars are kinda crap but its been an easy dinner esp on days like 2day when Jax is having a bad day with belly troubles. I need to come up with more ideas for quick dinners. Maybe Ill just have my eggs and bacon type stuff at night and do a shake every morning

Nope, I don't track anything, just eat the way I know I should - low in carbs, high in fat, and relatively high in protein.

Ok here is an up date.
Last night the O2 concentration had to be increased to 50%. Stayed that way until this afternoon docs dropped it down to 45% and now it's at 40%. He is tolerating this well. Still breathing fast but O2 sats are good. No other problem as of right now.
They are going to try feeding him some of my breast milk that I have pumped. Now it will go down a tube to his belly so no sucking but it's one more step towards going home.
Hospital is giving me 6$ per meal credit in caff for pumping and supplying kits and bottles for milk. Staff is really helpful and LC have helped me alot.
Stayed at motel most of the day...feet swelling and weeping...yuck!
Hubby stayed with Asher today. I could rest because he was there. He could rest mentally because I was lying in bed.

shana, good job staying on track through a camping weekend. i always blow my weekends out of the water with a free for all.

lately i've had zero desire for raw meat in my house. i can't bring myself to buy it at the store. i'll order something like a chicken with salad or a burger or steak, but doing it myself, just not interested.

I could not be around any raw meat when pregnant, could not keep it in the house. Many nights dh had to cook for me. I also could not stand any fat. if I had ground beef, he had to drain every drop of grease. And everything had to be well done.
But, the good news is the second I gave birth, everything went back to normal.

hi can I join you all?
Just found out I'm 5 weeks pregnant! It's our first. I recently lost 95 pounds, then gained back 30 while we were trying to conceive by eating a very healthy diet of 1500-2000 calories a day. Carbs did me in! I really want to have a healthy pregnancy without gaining back all of the weight. I know I can't let my body go into ketosis and I want to make sure I"m getting all the vital things my baby needs. My "PLAN" is to eat primal, with a sweet potato thrown in here and there and maybe a little bit of beans. And one cheat meal a week of whatever I've been craving.
Does anybody have any advice that could help me out?

Why the cheat meal once a week? Why the beans?

I keep reading that beans are great for pregnancy and full of folate. I know I can get it from other sources but what? I have an app on my phone and without remembering exact numbers 1 cup of beans had like 250mg of folate and the veggies I looked up only had like 8mg. And they said you need 600mg a day! YIKES. Trying to figure out where to get that from.

Eating Primal is def a great way to stay low carb but give yourself alil bit of fudge room. We have ate Paleo before but its hard for me to stick with it cuz I love cheese lol. But its def healthy for u and a great idea. I do an AMAZING sweet potato salad thats all Paleo. Basically its whats in reg cold potato salad but you use sweet potato and I add in bacon to cut the sweetness Everyone loves it...even non LC or Paleo eaters. The beans.. hmm I would just sub in a supplement if your worried? Like over the counter... Oh and BTW.. CONGRATS!! I am a first time Mom and just had my son on 6/26

for my first trimester i would eat beans everyday. i had a giant jar of pinto beans in the fridge and i'd warm them up in a bowl with a squirt of bbq sauce and bacon bits.
