Lizzy- I honestly didn't learn anything at my breast feeding class. And when you deliver a lactation nurse will come and help you, show you how to get your baby to latch, etc...and you can ALWAyS contact them once you leave the hospital. I did more than once when I was worried about how much my son was getting. My son was also very jaundice after birth and we had to take him to the doctor for a few weeks for light treatments. They told me the breast milk helps. Don't stress!

I never took a birthing class. How many of you did? I just figured he'd come out whether I knew what I was doing or not!

Same here! I didnt take any classes. DS was only slightly jaundiced but breast milk helps that go away quickly. I met with the lactation consultant that comes by after the baby is born and that was it. I nursed him for 14 mo so we had a good run.

I never took a birthing class with my other two but since it's been so long...
I read that you can get a walking epi...it's placed before hard labor, small amt of meds to check placement then not put to full use until the hard stuff kicks in. My worst memories is of trying to be still during a hard contraction while doc slips big needle in your spine!!! So if you can do it when you first get there....sounds like heaven!

I took both classes plus the infant care class though that was more for DH since he had only held one other infant in his life and had never changed diapers, fed, bathed, etc. as for the birthing classes, the biggest info was probably what labor could feel like, some focus strategies (breathing) techniques and a description of what a c-section might entail. As for breastfeeding class - there was nothing you couldn't read up on online, such as the different positions. Expect to be feeding a minimum of every three hours, feed as much as possible in the beginning to help your milk come in. Truthfully I didn't find my lactation consultant all that helpful.

I loved mine gab! I guess that will depend on the hospital.
Dragged dh to that class he wasn't entertained at all. But yeah feeding often is important.

Probably should have gone to the infant class but they were a lot of money where we lived. I may go here since its free, and I plan on taking my son to the sibling class as well

I was watching a baby story on tv today and I'll tell you one thing, I'm not looking forward to labor and delivery. I can still feel that awful pain

I'm sure it completely depends on the person as well - the lac consultant was nice enough, I just didn't feel like she was very helpful for me. I don't know - guess I was expecting great insight and I got "you got it" lol.

I found the infant care class - well, boring. But then I have been helping care for children since I was 9. Plus I figured it was good for DH to hear the "rules" from someone other than me. He jumped right in at the hospital to change diapers, hold Sam, etc. I was really impressed! Still am.

Yah since I won my own daycare I doubt I'll find anything new, but it might've interesting. My dh was the same way at the hospital and at home, until our son was about 6 months old, then he was over diaper changing

Due to bedrest missed my breast feeding class I was signed up for at the hospital. I hope I can make it to the childbirth class... It's a 7 hour class....I don't see it happening.

Birth anouncements.....I haven't even thought about that. Jaxmom yours looked great....Now I have an idea!
Aww ty... I didnt like any of the ones I came across on websites so I figured, might as well design my own like I did with his baby shower invites. I had a Groupon for Vistaprint...paid $17 and it gave me $70 credit. AWESOME! Only catch was ya had to do it all in one shot..so I got the announcement, some address labels and got my moma mouse pad lol.

But the upright second freezer is bigger, opens less frequently, and was quite full of just meats and veggies. I'm inclined to believe it stayed cool even if not completely frozen.

I cringed dumping out multiple containers of heavy cream from my fridge this morning. That stuff's not cheap! Also trashed: lunch meats, restaurant leftovers, sour cream, hard boiled eggs, cheeses that had been opened...I'm keeping the packaged cheeses that are still fully sealed/never opened. I'm also keeping butter, as I grew up with butter in a butter dish out on the counter in the kitchen, not refrigerated, for days at a time, so I think that's okay.

If nothing else, at least most of the junk food is now gone from my kitchen :P

Oh, and Friday, I got a sandwich from the cafe in my office building for lunch, and I opened it up to put more mayo on it, and there was BLUE MOLD on the edge of the cheese! Yesterday, we tried to order dinner from Pizza Hut, and they were closed due to the power outage. Instead, we ordered from a diner that delivers to our house, and we included milkshakes in our order, and then they called us to say they had no ice cream (all melted when the power was out), so no milkshakes. The universe is trying to tell me to eat healthier!
Ughh thats the worst...thinking of how much $ was thrown out. Had to laugh at the comment abt eating healthier tho... I could see myself all mad and cursing as I was throwing the food out and being like "I guess God is punishing me for cheating on my diet!" lol.

I didnt take any at all. Lol I had planned on it but I didnt wanna go by myself and they were 2 day classes and we just could not coordinate it with DH's schedule at all. I figured it wasnt that big of a deal cuz I was gettin a C section so I didnt need to know abt pushing and L&D, etc etc...BOY WAS I WRONG! Lol. In between my grunting and huffing and puffing in pain I informed the nurses that I had no idea how to push cuz I hadnt planned on it. Lol they assured me it was no big deal and theyd help me. And they did and I didnt feel too stupid As far as breast feeding... Im exclusively formula so I didnt take any of those classes. I did have a nursery nurse that came in multiple times a day to check on him and help with any issues with feeding. If I would have BF...they would have had the lactation specialist come instead and help. Same as everyone posted..they were available after you leave the hospital as well. I thought all my nurses were super helpful and friendly so I was glas for that It was def a good first birthing experience.

So glad I'm not the only one Jax!!! I tried breastfeeding with my first 2 and quit after about 2-3 days. I had issues with inverted nipples but the real issue holding me back was my anxiety around other people. I could not ummm...whip it out in public, lol and even around my husband. Even with a cover! My anxiety was so bad I would start hyperventilating and it was not an enjoyable experience for me or baby. Then after quitting and going to formula I had a lot of people made me feel like crap...

Actually my husband was glad I switched to formula because he was excited to help with feedings

I know breastfeeding is the best choice which is why I tried both times, but honestly it isn't for everyone. This time I will go straight to formula and not let anyone make me feel like a bad mother for doing so!

I understand what ya mean. I had a breast reduction and I am not able to produce enough milk supply for Jaxon to thrive. There was a possibility that I could try and supplement and just attempt to BF what lil bit I could...but after talking with my DR... I decided it wasnt worth the emotional distress for me and baby. I was already having issues feeling bad about it because I know too that BF is def healthiest. But I also knew that me being depressed and angry and frustrated with even trying to squeeze out a few drops...just wasnt what I wanted for my birth plan. Hubby was also excited to feel more included and bonding time since hes always away at work.. thats his main time with him.

When I told the nursery nurses that I was strictly formula.. they did not mae me feel bad at all. They were very supportive and didnt question my decision even though i explained to them why. They still gave me the same support I would have got if I was BF. Helped show me different positions and helped me cuz he was always falling asleep when feeding and then wouldnt get down as much as he should. They also gave me a TON of Similac stuff to take home. Same thing with our pediatrician...he simply asked what my decision was and said its a great choice, informed me about schedules and loaded us up with even more Similac and Enfamil stuff

Anywho... I think that like you said..you should always do whats right for you and your loved ones. Noone knows you better than YOU I hope that you have just as positive experience as I had with it.

Oh my, you have all been so busy chatting along here! We were in Cape Cod on vacation for a few days, and I am back to work now. Traveling with a little one is not easy. It is do-able, but not easy! He learned to crawl while on vacation. And he is now trying to stand up. Oh, how I wish he could be a bit more delayed in that. Like it would be nice if he waited until AFTER I had this next baby, LOL!

DP and Gab-I am from Buffalo too....I lived there for almost 30 years before moving to CT. I grew up in Grand Island and then lived in North Buffalo for a few years after college. I went to college in Rochester too. What a small world!! We will be going up there at the end of the month for my grandma's 90th birthday celebration and Brandon will be getting baptised as well.

I will try and catch up reading the posts in a little while....but glad you are safe from the storms Jilly! They sounded like they were awful. Going without power for that long sucks!!!

JaxonsMomma - I was just wondering how you all were doing. Yes, we enjoyed having family around when DS was born but the most special time was when everyone left and we were just a little family of our own trying to get into a groove. Hope all is well!

Yes I leave Wednesday morning! Not soon enough. Though I'm not looking forward to traveling alone with ds. I've done it before but I hate it! And I hate waking at 5am even more. Lol

We had a lot of company after ds was born too. It was nice when my mom was around because she would leave us alone. Not so great when MIl was around. Then my dad and step mom came. We were happy to be alone finally

I'm getting major headaches. NOT fun

Drink up! Best advice my doc gave me was to drink more water when I got headaches. It helped tremendously.

Dp -a gallon? Wow! I had headaches through my first trimester and felt like Tylenol did almost nothing to help it. Ice pack on the back of my neck helped some.

Not much going on here. Heat wave means we are indoors or at the pool.

Hello!

I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm expecting my 7th little one the end of February next year. I'll be low carbing it. I'm prediabetic even when I'm not pregnant. I'm feeling more than a little concerned about weight gain. I low carbed in my last pregnancy without cheating and I gained 40 lbs. The same as I gained the two pregnancies before that when I wasn't low carbing! I feel like my metabolism just died and gave up the ghost.

I've not been able to lose all my baby weight this time after 24 full months. I'm still about 10-14 lbs away from that starting weight of 160 depending on how the scale yo-yo's. I felt absolutely physically wonderful while pregnant and low carbing though. I'm just so frustrated I can't lose weight. I lost weight low carbing the 3 mo before I got pregnant. And then starting in the 2nd trimester the pounds started piling on despite my diet. After the birth they would barely budge. I was 187 before starting a juice fast last fall and being able to get to where I am now stuck in the low 170's. I have not been able to lose anything since. The only weight I've been able to lose since the first couple of weeks post partum was from the juice fast. (I did low carb veggies in my juice.) It's very discouraging.

About a month ago I started working on a full 40 min of exercise a day. I lift weights, do callanetics, and interval training for the most part. I'm hoping that will make the difference. I've also started counting calories for the first time in my life. I'm using ****** to make sure I get enough nutrients but also to track what I'm actually eating. I've begun to wonder if my problem isn't that I just eat way too much food even if it is low carb and healthy. :/

So anyway, I'm looking for low carb support. I definitely won't be doing anything else!

Ughh yeah Ill get a small break but then supposedly my aunt and Gram are coming out sometime at end of July, beginning of Aug. We also have USMC friends coming end of July. Friends are alil diff tho cuz they dont overstep their boundaries lol. I know my Mom means well but literally she just like thinks I should be holding the baby every waking sec and that I should never let him sleep cuz thats why he wakes up at night etc. Hes a newborn...hes supposed to sleep alot. I dont enjoy him waking up at freakin 2am and not fallin back asleep for a few hrs,..but I cant force him to stay up when hes tired. Esp if he gets cranky and then i rock him or walk around with him in a carrier or take him in the stroller... all of those make him sleepy. So its the only way hell calm down sometimes. Anywho.... the biggest thing thats drivin me nuts is that she keeps arguing with DH about our dogs. The dogs have been staying outside now because theyre 3 large dogs and i just cant handle them plus the baby by myself and they are filthy cuz they dig in the yard all day and Im not having that in our carpets etc with a newborn. So they stay outside during the day and have some shade and a pool. Then at night they come in to our garage and we have a built in dog run for them. Hubby has fans going in there to keep them cooled down. Well every day my mom keeps saying that its terrible for the dogs to be treated that way and how DH is abusing them because its hot outside etc etc. My stance is that I love the dogs but would be okay with giving the, away to a good home. Where they wouldnt have to stay outside because itd be better for them. I feel bad cuz we have had the biggest one since we first got married.. got him during Hubbys first deployment. But Hubby on the other hand.... refuses to get rid of the dogs and wont listen to anything I have to say. AKA... I am put in the middle of him and my mom and I am abt to lose it. I keep telling her to leave me out of it and talk to him. She does but it gets no where and it starts over the next day.
Anyways... thats my drama lol

We had a lot of company after ds was born too. It was nice when my mom was around because she would leave us alone. Not so great when MIl was around. Then my dad and step mom came. We were happy to be alone finally

I'm getting major headaches. NOT fun
Aww Wedn will come soon!! Hang in there! I got really bad migraines my 2nd trimester and into part of my 3rd. (I actually have a terrible one as we speak..that mixed with a crabby baby all day...yucky!) My dr prescribed me some kind of migraine stuff that had prolly tylenol and caffeine mix. I cant remember the name of it..started with a B. But it was safe to take while prego. It helped most of the time so maybe you could check out something like that. But Ive heard water and some caffeine helps too

Wow...7 little ones?! Your a brave woman..Lol im not sure I could even handle 2. Congrats on staying low carb. I just had my first born on 6/26 and I stayed low carb for the 2nd and 3rd tri and it def helped me feel better too! I did gain 40 lbs but alot of it was from not being LC my 1st tri. Anywho...everyone here is very supportive and it helped me during my last month

Spent the last few days at the lake in the blazing inferno weather. we finally broke down and bought an AC unit for the cabin, then we didn't want to leave to come back home! i spent a good amount of time lazing in the water and it felt fabulous. i looked like a heffer in my bathing suit, but whatevs. i'm not spending $50 on a new suit to wear 3 times this summer

jaxmoma, i understand the dog issue. we have a lab and a german shorthair pointer. the GSP is my brother-in-law's and we're fostering it until he's back in town next month, he just turned a year old and i can't wait to give him back!! he's so rambunctious, which he is a puppy and i completely understand that, but he doesn't realize how rough he can be on me and my belly! however my lab is sweet as pie and she loves babies. sometimes it's hard to bite your tongue, but in the end the dog decision is between you and your husband, no involvement necessary from your mom.

I have felt a lot of kicks the last few days, even saw my belly moving a few times! All the movement made me a little nauseated, kinda like a motion sickness feeling? baby girl's definitely a mover and shaker in there.

Sam slept almost 10 hours! Well, I think he woke once around 3 but DH was able to get him back to sleep. DH worked till 2:30, and whenever he works a night shift, Sam wakes about a half hour after he gets home. Same is true when DH works mornings, Sam wakes about a half hour after DH gets up.

He is sitting up in his pack and play just playing. It's nice to have him entertain himself for a bit. I get to enjoy my cup of coffee .

KQT - hope that nauseous feeling passes for you. I don't blame you for not wanting to buy another suit.

Saponia - i will echo the other girls -7!!! Wow! I'm thinking I'll be "two and Done". But for now I am enjoying my first. I love being home with him to see how much he changes everyday.

Aww the cabin sounds amazing!! My fam has a cottage on Lake Erie in OH and a cabin near the border of WV which we share with some fam friends. I miss both dearly. Id love to be able to have Jax grow up there on weekends like I did Plus its so relaxing. Glad you had a nice time...and Im sure u didnt look like a heffer! I need a new suit too but then again Im not sure when Ill be able to go to the pool again. Its too hot to take the baby and leave him in the stroller and Im pretty sure he has to be atleast 2-3 months before he can go in the water?

Wohoo on the baby movement! I loved watching my belly ripple lol. Altho I agree it did feel alil nauseous at times esp at work.

Thats awesome that he is sleeping that long through the night. I was wondering how it works when Jax gets older... now I am waking him every 3-4 hrs for a bottle. So by the time I go to bed... I usually wake up around 2am for a feeding and then around 5 or 6 for a 2nd feeding and then I just feed again when we wake up around 830 or 9. So when he gets older...do I not have to wake him up during the night for the feedings? Do u just feed on demand? I hate waking him up when hes so peaceful. Im so clueless abt how everything progresses as he gets older. I try and read as much as I can abt everything.

I agree that being able to stay at home is something I have looked fwd to. Im so grateful that Im able to experience everything. Bless your hearts to those that work cuz it must take so much out of you emotionally and physically!
