Has anyone had a uterine polyp removed?
I'm scheduled to have a polypectomy and d and c on the 27th. I'm wondering what to expect as far as recovery time. The nurse told me I will probably just be tired from the anesthesia for a day or so afterwards but I have an important class to attend the next evening that I registered for months ago and can't miss. It would be much appreciated if anyone has had this done and would like to share thier recovery experience. I'm expecting some bleeding but I'm not sure about pain or cramping. I generally have a high threshold for pain, but I know everyone is different.
Thanks!

Hi. I just saw this. I have had two of these procedures. They were both easy. There was no recovery time, per se. My friend brought me home and per instructions, I lounged around, although I did not feel that I needed to do so. I was completely back to normal the next day. I recall a very minor amount of spotting. I had to wear a pad for a couple of days, but mostly due to leakage of the fluid that was used during the procedure.
One thing that may differ between my experience and yours is that I did not have a general anesthetic. For both procedures, I had epidural anesthesia. Doctors prefer to perform the procedure when a general anesthetic is used, but that is because it is easier for them and they don't have to worry about a nervous patient. Long ago, an anesthesiologist told me that recovery is far quicker if a local rather than general is used and that the local provides actual pain relief. Since then, every surgery I have had has been performed under an epidural -- this includes the two polypectomies and open abdominal surgery. And, my recoveries have been easy, quicker than expected and with minimal discomfort. If you are not squeamish and your doctor is willing, you might want to look into having the procedure done using an epidural. But, even with a general, the procedure should be quick, with minimal recovery time, unless yours is somehow more complicated than the two that I had. Good luck. |
