PCOS and Metformin

I was just told by my gyno that my bloodwork points towards PCOS. I had it done because we have been trying to conceive for over 1 year. I am overweight but have no other symptoms of it. She said my insulin levels were fine but wants to put me on Metformin. I don't want to go on it. I don't like the side effects, am not a pill taker anyways, and it seems after doing some research that I can get a handle on the PCOS with weight loss alone. Is this true? Has anyone tried to get better naturally? Any ideas? Thnaks.

You probably could handle it with weight loss.

Did your doctor only run a glucose test to test for diabetes? or did he run an actual insulin reading?

I am not diabetic but my insulin is crazy high. That is why I'm on metformin. I'm not an expert or anything though. Are you ovulating? I heard that it can help with that if your not. I'm hoping it will work....I dunno. Hopefully, someone can pop in and help. I'm newly diagnosed too. I'm on my first week on Metformin once a day. next week twice a day and then three a day from there on.

I appreciate any help I can get. Thank you.
I'm not sure exactly what test it was. I know it was FH, LH???? Something like that. She just said that my insulin levels were fine. I actually do ovulate. Maybe not as extreme as I used to....but I definitely still do.I don't know. I just want to try natural first. I hope everything works out for you too.

oh there is a fantastic website out there too if you haven't been there already for info on PCOS.

SoulCysters.com: Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) Treatment & Resources

the message boards there were so helpful to me.
