PG + Diabetes & Insulin Injections?

My previous pregnancy was horrible for one reason. Insulin injections. Which my doctors demanded that I take for type 2 diabetes and consequentially for gestational diabetes. The first four months I did struggle more with carbs but the last months it was easy to maintain my insulin/blood sugar levels with a low carb diet. (low carbing comes fairly easy for me anyway) That didn't stop them from making me continue insulin. Around 6 months they took my A1C and it was 4.9. I think it even went down to 4.1 or something at the end of my pregnancy.

Is it possible to deliver a perfectly healthy, properly sized baby without being on insulin at all? As long as I am diligent to not eat any grains, breads, oats, starches, high carb fruits/veggies or sugar.

Thoughts / opinions?

Hi Kisha,

I cannot answer your question, however just wanted to know if the injections were prescribed by your OB, regular doc or a Parentenologist?

If it was by the first two, I would ask to be referred to a Parentenologist. They deal specifically with high risk pregnancies. You will still see your regular OB but the Parentenologist will consult with you on your other meds. They typically see ladies with high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid disorder....things like that.

I hope this helps.

It was originally prescribed by my regular doctor. She was adamant and no one else, even the specialist went against it. /sigh
