Hot Flashes and mainly night sweats.

Does anyone else here have either of these? They are getting to be outta control. I awake about 2 to 4 am each morning with one. What can I take that is herbal. I really dont want to go with the hormones that the Doctor wants to do. He said he really didnt know much about the Bio Identical hormones yet. Please, Any information with be helpful.

Oh yeah. I know that song well now. I keep a fan on me all night long. Lots of times, I don't have anything else on. I'm not sure how people stay married through this because anything with body heat would have to be very very far away from me (ask the cat_)

I haven't tried the bioidenticals. Haven't been able to talk myself into it. scared I am!

What are BHRT's??? I have them and I have to be awake for an hour each nite , if not longer. THe ones I have during the day I can deal with. It s waking in the middle of the nite that gets to me. One of my friends told me her Dr put her on cymbalta and hers have subsided.

Jan,

If I am correct...Cymbalta is for depression!! ( matter of fact, I'm almost 99% sure I'm right,...which means there is still a chance I'm wrong ) May I ask, was your friend put on this for her menopause symptoms

Anyway, BHRT = Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy..
I hear ya on those hot flashes Thank goodness mine are no longer!! HTH

I'm 52 and have the night sweats but so far not every night. I don't take anything as far as vitamins or hormones. I really want to stay away from the hormones. I'm just sucking it up!

I'm trying to suck it up too but it's getting harder and harder. I'm afraid of the hormone replacement thing. On the upside I haven't had a period in four months.

I felt the same way as you do ( afraid of the hormones thing) But I did my research, talked to several people and when I finally got the nerves up to go in to be seen, I asked a Ba-zillion questions......I had a list...as long as my arm..

I guess the main thing that stood out in my mind, was the worry about somehow getting cancer Dr. explained everything to me clearly ( many times, having to repeat himself ) cause I would ask some of the same questions over and and over...

I think if my ONLY symptoms were hot flashes, then I would have tried to just sucked it up too...but I was having so many problems that mere sucking it up was no longer a viable option..

When I got my first set of labs back, my Estrogen & progesterone were extremely low and my testosterone in the column for the actual number, the lab wrote "Unable to count", as i was below 10 ( which explained couple of other problems I been having) Women are supposed to have a certain amount of testosterone ya know Dr. said over-all, I was that depleted....

fast forward,...I'm feeling much better now!! I know this is a topic of debate for many, the medical community included, but I am happy with the decision I made...By the way, I am on the lowest dosages of all three hormones via pellet insertion..
I sincerely hope you find what works for you...

Oh....and I wanted to add too...

Dr. told me that my weight loss help spin me into early menopause..., I was like huh? ...cause I certainly did not lose my weight, in what I consider,...fast. I lost the first 100lbs in about 10 months or so...and the rest slowly...over the next two years....Crazy huh?....

I'd find a specialist. Someone who absolutely knows what they are talking about. I'd also read a book or two on hormone replacement therapy. It's not good if your going into things blindly. You should equip yourself with as much knowledge on the subject to make it less scary. Also, so you can question the doctor and know what your talking about.

Also ask around, ask your friends and just talk to people. Most people would be glad to offer up some advice or knowledge if they're also going through it.

I don't know what the answer is. But suffering shouldn't be one of them.

I hope you get better soon.

So do I have a false hope believing these hot flashes and night sweats will end when I have gone 12 months without a period?

You really need to find out more information about menopause before making such an assumption. Think positive. I know it has to be very hard to deal with, but in order to alleviate the problem, you must "do" something to find the help you might need. I'm sure there is several treatment options that will help improve, if not eliminate the side effects. You can start right now by reading some information on menopause. I'm sure there are plenty of available websites which can help to start to inform you about the many treatments available. Don't be afraid to seek out the solutions!

If you need immediate solutions to try. Seek out a knowledgeable doctor, who deals with menopause asap!

Keep the faith.

Keep the hope.

Gain knowledge. It is the power to control your life.

I agree with Kisha!!. but to answer your question above,...There is no set time limit when the hot flashes will stop!! For many women these flashes go on for years...As your hormone levels decline, for the majority of most women, the symptoms only get worse There are some women who seem to sail right through it though....
Hormones ( or the lack of certain hormones) affect every part of your being. Google this topic, as there is LOADS of information out there I've read that "Estrovent" ( possibly wrong spelling, but its an OTC herbal supplement, sold at places like Walmart etc) works well for many, sadly it did nothing for me. I tried several things, spent lots of $$$ and nothing really worked until I got medical intervention... I wish you the best!!! please keep us posted..

I've suffered from hot flashes for five years. I'm now only 47, and they are worse than ever. Dr. won't give me HRT because I'm still having TOM a couple times a year. He says I have to have stopped TOM for at least a year before he would give me HRTs. I am so frustrated.

Hi there!!

I am sorry that you are going through this...Boy can I relate!!
You Dr. is right though, because if you are still having a TOM ( even sporadically) then you are in what's considered Peri-menopause. I could be wrong, but at least that's my understanding. Once you enter full Meno then they can better evaluate your hormone levels. Right now with your TOM every now and then, your hormones are still fluctuating...

Hopefully, someone else here will pop in and offer better advice. I would ask your Dr. what he expects you to do in the mean time? I waited a two full years of no TOM, before even seeking help ... In the ,meantime, do some research and google peri-meno and see what's out there...Please continue to post, as there are lots of wonderful and knowledgeable folks here that can help!!

i went to my doctors and had blood work done to see if i was menopausal, i had a hysterectomy 5 years ago. the reason dr did blood work was because i told her i was moody, wanting to cry all the time when i got the letter in the mail with my results she wrote you are big time menopausal and that im not going crazy, now my question is what questions should i ask her i want something for mood swings but dont want hrt. tia

I went into early menopause in my mid 30's and now at 42 still dealing with it...when I was living in the US there was an amazing site Women to Women — Changing women's health — naturally and on there I bought their natural supplements to help out menopause...man oh man it worked...the wicked night sweats and DAY sweats left, the mood swings you name gone...I didn't want to try HRT but when I first moved to the US they did put me on it but after one month I felt like a psychopath...I just wasn't me and the mood swings were off the chart and I was throwing up constantly...so stopped it cold turkey anyways...I still couldn't hack the sweating like a pig during the day and yes I mean it when I say I sweated like a pig..ugh...so I found that site tried their stuff and voila it was gone...now I'm living in Canada ( I'm from Canada we were just posted to the US with the military then) and the company can't ship to Canada so I tried another product, Estroven again it's natural and it works pretty good...hope that helps!

Wow,..just goes to show how we are all so different. I know very well about the Women-to-Women plan ( brought everything they suggested, spent lots of $$$ on the supplements / vitamins etc and even the cream ) Sadly after many weeks of giving it a good try...It did absolutely nothing for me!! I also tried Estroven and again...nothing...I have a dear friend that went off her Prempro cold turkey and switched to Estroven and swears its working wonders for her!!.... I guess I'm one of many that had to go another route...To the OP,...It may be worth giving it a try though, ( Women to Women, or Estroven) as it might just work for you...Best wishes!!
