The last barrier to trying to conceive

My husband and I got married this past May. We have been together for 4 years now! When we first met, I was recently out of college and had a shitty job. My husband decided to go to college and did that while I worked my shitty job. Eventually I got a great job, and my husband continued with 3 years of college. He graduated last year and had a shitty job (a common theme for recent graduates I am finding). We started talking about starting a family, and we agreed that three things should happen first:

1. Get married (we lived together for 3 years before we got married, but we wanted to get married before having children)
2. My husband land a good job (for financial stability for our family)
3. Me lose weight (I am morbidly obese and it would be unsafe to get pregnant at this weight... if I even could)

Well, my husband just got a job offer for a great job last week! He starts in October! We are so thrilled! So that scratches #1 and #2 off the list of things to do before trying to conceive! All thats left is #3...

Now about that #3.... I currently weigh around 370 pounds at 5ft 8in. Probably a little more (I haven't weighed in a couple weeks and have been eating like crap.) I never weighed over 280 pounds until after college. In college I went on Atkins and got down to 240. I had lapband surgery in 2007 at 325 pounds... got down to 298 and the band slipped. My band had to be unfilled and I ate and ate and ate my way up to an all time high of 370. Unbelievable.

I need to lose over 100 pounds before trying to conceive. I would like to be at least back down to 250ish. So that is a whopping 120 pounds from here! Even at 250 I will still be obese! But at least its a great initial goal and should be safe for me and baby.

I need to go back on Atkins. Its truly the only thing that works. It kills me that we have worked so hard, and are now in the position to start our family, except for my weight! I have PCOS, and do not currently ovulate. I don't even get a period. When I eat lower carb and lose weight, things regulate! When I was around 300 pounds I had a fairly regular period! So I know its possible!

I am going to start a weight loss journal. I am ready to do this! Reading everyone's posts on this website is sooooooo motivational to me! I'm going to stick around until I reach my goal!

Thanks for listening!

I was around 400lbs in June, that's just 4 months ago and I've almost lost 100lbs. You can do this and it doesn't have to take forever.

Good luck to your and your hubby ttc.

Have a little faith! You have the motivation, you just need to start doin' it! Thankfully you've already done it once, so you know it works for you! THAT is a great start to a weight loss program.

Good luck on your journey.
I just started low carbing again yesterday.
My husband and I have been trying to conceive for awhile now and fertility treatments are not working-so I am hoping that by losing weight, this will help us get pregnant finally.
This is the biggest incentive ever!!!!

Good Luck on losing weight before you try to conceive! I'm trying to lose weight b/c I want another child and for better health. I have a 4 year old who needs a younger sibling. Plus, I want to be able to keep up with my entire family.

Good luck to you!!

I also have PCOS. My main motivation to keep sticking with this WOE is the fact that I want a child so badly, and like you, I need to lose weight before getting pregnant to insure that both me and my potential baby are healthy as possible.

Good luck to you!!! I am also in the same boat you are. I am about 250 right now, and have PCOS. DH and I are trying to conceive #1. I am 36 (almost 37) so I have my age going against me too. I do get my period, but it is not very regular. When I was strict LCing and exercising during the summer, it came very regularly, but now it seems to come every 40 days or so. Ugh!

Well, I just wanted to say welcome and I look forward to hearing about your progress!

Ladies,
There is a Getting Healthy for Baby Thread..that I love....I was with them when I got pregnant with Elijah. Most of the women that I started with at that time had graduated to motherhood. We all had some reproductive issues, PCOS, ectopics pregnancies, m/c, and of course a lot of weight to lose. We shared a lot of stories, advice, direction, fears, prayers, pain, everything and stay with the ladies after we get pregnant also to lend our support.
