Quitting Birth Control!

I decided today to stop taking my BC pill! Yesterday I went out and got the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility", read it front to back, and I'm going to use the Fertility Awareness Method!

I'm so sick of the pill, I've felt bloated in my lower stomach CONSTANTLY since taking it, and I believe it's making it more difficult for me to lose weight. I'm especially sick of the bloated thing, though.... and the between-period-periods!!!

I'm hoping I will start feeling better, and start being rewarded more for my hard work in weight loss efforts.

If you have stopped taking birth control, how did you feel after you stopped? Less bloated/moody/depressed?

I'm right there with you with moody/bloatness thing. It has taken me almost 4 different sets of pills to finally get on the right one where I don't feel emotional/bloated. The mini-pill seems to be working for me for now. Maybe you just need to try different ones as well to see if you can find a happy balance.

And yeah, without the pill I never had those emotional mood swings or that feeling of I'm going to blow up I'm so bloated. But like I said, maybe try different pills to see if you can find the right one that works with your body.

FYI, fertility awareness ROCKS!!! You are going to be very in tune with your body, and you'll feel fantastic

Ive stopped few months ago and actually gained weight for some reason. I did alot of online researches in message boards and realized that many women complained about gain weight after stopping BC.

U can talk to your doctor about it, but i am sure even if u gain some weight, it will be temporary.

I'm really just sick of putting unnatural things in my body! I don't want to switch birth controls anymore - Depo, Nuvaring, Pills - they all make me feel weird and do things to me that I don't like! I'm really excited about Fertility Awareness, I think it's perfect for me because I can be really neurotic and pay attention to details really well. I like to have little things to obsess over LOL like cleaning and such...

I also stopped taking an anti-depressant a while back, started feeling better after I stopped that, too!

I just want to feel GOOD and not have things like this get in the way of life

I've been on BC for so long I am not sure if my moodiness or water retention is directly related to BC or not. I get noticeable pitting edema in my lower legs/ankles just before TOM. I only weigh about 90 lbs, but I can gain 4-5 lbs of water weight and I feel like my world is crashing.

I've been contemplating going off BC too, just to see, but I am very scared of a SURPRISE! Good luck and I hope you do feel better and see the results you are looking for.

YAY another convert!

I haven't taken the pill for ten years and I can't remember all off the changes when I went off, but here are a few I remember:

1 - No more breakthrough bleeding, which was AWESOME
2 - Slightly stronger cramps and heavier periods, but not bad
3 - More even moods
4 - OMG get ready for your sex drive to ramp up exponentially!

A few pieces of advice:

Don't rely on FAM as birth control until you're totally comfortable that you know what you're doing. Maybe chart for a few months first.

Forget about the early dry day rule. It's the easiest one to misinterpret and mess up, with the biggest consequences since you might end up doing it right before you ovulate.

Checkout the website for "Ovusoft". They have message boards which are very helpful.

Thanks, Fizgig! I have already bookmarked the Ovusoft website. Let fiance know we will have to use barrier methods until I get it all worked out, I'm sure after stopping birth control things might be a litte erratic. I'm so excited!
