Ovarian Cycts? Low dose BC & Atkins... TMI!
I just started Atkins a little over two weeks ago. Have been on a low dose birth control pill for several months. Normally I would have one period a month. But I had mine last month, and here it is again! For a little over a week now I've been having period-like bleeding with cramps. Could this be because of my change in diet? Normally when I have my period I only have cramps for the first 1-2 days...I've been having cramps every day for over a week. I didn't think much of it but now I'm starting to get worried because it doesn't seem to be going away much... anyone else experience this?
I'm scared, I really don't want to go to the doctor. I haven't had an exam in over a year, I know I have cervical dysplasia. The last time I was examined was when I had my colposcopy, and that totally scarred me for life. I know it sounds so stupid, but I get so much anxiety just thinking about having an exam. My colposcopy was extremely painful... I think maybe I'll just suck it up, make an appointment if I stop bleeding, and take a muscle relaxer before the exam? Or do you think they could prescribe me a valium or something to take before i have the exam???? My god, seriously, just thinking about it I feel a panic attack coming on!!! UGH. I hope it's nothing. I know I have to see a doctor. I just don't want to!!! Is this normal with this WOE at first, do you think I should be worried??

I haven't dealt with that, but wanted to give
and good thoughts. I think I've heard others say that starting low-carb can mess with your cycle... and everybody's different, so ya never know. Hope you get answers; I know it's scary not knowing what's up with your body. ![]() ![]() |

Would your doctor prescribe you some kind of anxiety med?? I imagine that would make it easier on BOTH of you for an exam.

Okay, bleeding has been gone for a couple days now. Apparently it's been normal for other women starting LC. BUT I'm still going to go in for an exam soon, I promise! I think I will just call ahead and ask for a prescription before the Appt. even though I really only want one pill lol Thanks you guys for your concern!

I had the same thing go on with me. And I turned out to be pregnant. I was also on BC but for some reason it didn't work. I guess the bleeding and cramping was the egg implanting itself into my uterus. I miscarried a month later though. But doesn't mean that this is what is going on with you. I know my Mom has ovarian cysts and once in a while one of them will burst and she will get cramping and bleeding. I would see the OBGYN anyway. I am sure they will not be doing a colposcopy unless they see some sort of odd lesion or tissues during the pap smear. They most likely will just do a regular pap smear, pregnancy test, blood tests, and maybe a ultrasound to see if you have cysts on your ovaries. It would be worth not having the anxity anymore just to find out what is going on.

Probably no one here is a doctor. That is one of the problems with health care. Most people make a Dr. appointment because something does not seem right, then they expect you to wait to see them if you have any questions or concerns. Meanwhile, we, as humans, have the opportunity to worry, and that is generally what we do. I would call your Dr. office if you did not already have your appt. and talk to whomever will talk to you so you can ask questions.
Low carbing definately "rearranged" my hormones! One of the changes, as relates to my period, was that it went from a 28 day cycle to 26 day. That was really the only abnormal thing that happened with the bleed part. I am not on birth control, so I cannot say anything regarding abnormal bleeding as it might relate to that. |

Hello. You may have found answers for your query by now, but I just came across the thread and I wanted to tell you that I am on continuous (no break, no periods) low hormone BCPs (for endometriosis control), and EVERY TIME I do Induction, I have period-quantity breakthrough bleeding, sometimes for a week or even more. I discussed it with my doctor, and she felt that it was due to the hormonal changes brought about by low-carbing. Just to be certain, I had both a pelvic ultrasound and an endometrial biopsy. Both normal. It's just something I've come to expect when I take the carbs really low. Just wanted you to know.
