AnyOne Take Yaz?

Anyone here taking Yaz?
My Doc said today that she wanted me to start taking it and shoved a sample pack into my hand.
My monthly is very bad.
She's been talking about a Radical Hysterectomy, but decided first she'd do an Endometrial Biopsy to see what's going on with hormones and all.
This is all new to me. I don't want to take Yaz, but if it will help, I might think about it. Any advice for me?

I tried it for my female issues (fibroids and endometrosis and PCOS) and it didn't help me with anything but weight gain.

I am sorry to hear about your problems hon. It so sucks outloud to have to deal with this. I am bummed too that since you have lost the weight that it has not helped you with it.

My Dr. keeps telling me that weight loss will help.. especially the endo and fibroids as they are estrogen driven and less fat means less excess estrogen.

Have you checked into progesterone creams? I am using it on my belly and it seems to be helping.

I'm taking it... it's been less than a month though, so I am not much help. The BCP I was on before raised my blood pressure! It was PERFECT before, and HIGH after I started taking it. I haven't had it retaken since I started YAZ, but come to think of it, I haven't lost a single pound recently... I wonder if that contributed??? My dr said it would NOT do that.

TOM was very bad for me too. I opted to have the endometrial ablation instead of a hysterectomy and it is the best thing that I have ever done. My doctor performed it in her place of practice so there was no hospital stay. I was also awake during the procedure and it only took a few minutes. I was good to go to work within 3 days. Ask your doctor about this procedure.

I too have bad, painful periods and thought about yaz but after reading up on it I decided to go with Loestrin 24 FE and I have to say that even with the first couple of rocky months (as far as breakthrough bleeding went) it was the best choice I made for myself, My PMS went away so no more mood swings, and my period is short if non existent some months... good luck with whatever choice you make! * hugs*

I just don't want to gain weight! I have worked so hard, so very hard to get it off.
I am just tired of feeling crappy for a whole week to ten days out of the month.

I've done my research and I have decided against it.
I was reading that it's not recommended for women over 35?

Wow Mac, you have lost some weight! I don't blame you for not taking Yaz.
I haven't lost as much as you, but I'm pretty much at goal and I can't imagine weighing what I use to!

Michelle, I have also heard it can screw with your potassium levels.... I wouldn't want anyone I cared about on it.

I'll be praying for you to find the right solution!

So I'll go against the grain here add a positive review on Yaz. I've been on Yaz (since last fall), I'm 38 and like it. I have PMDD and had horrible massive monthlies. I was very anemic from it and I was afraid to go out of my house for fear of having a huge gush (sorry tmi). Since taking Yaz and doing low carb my PMDD symptoms are almost gone and my monthly is almost nothing. As for the weight issue, I initially lost about 10 lbs. since I started taking Yaz with doing low carb. And since the beginning of this year I've been basically maintaining my weight, but I've had no weight gain. I'm now upping my workouts and watching my calories. I hope to see a drop at some point soon. My obgyn has reassured me that with new research, taking Yaz over age 35 is safe, as long as one is at a healthy weight, does not smoke and is active. I trust my obgyn, plus, I got to the point where I was sick of being a prisoner, emotionally and physically, to my TOM. If it continues to work for me, I plan on taking Yaz until I reach menopause.

From what I understand, Yaz will not help with PMS symptoms. In fact, some who do not have PMDD, when taking Yaz, will start having PMDD type symptoms. One of the symptoms of PMDD is weight gain. There is another pill out there that doesn't have placebo pills, so you basically do not have a period. I can't remember the name off hand, but it is fairly new. It has gotten good reveiws. If I find the name I will post it here for you if you are interested.

And I just wanted to mention something a friend told me about the online reviews of Yaz. You have to remember, the majority of people who are happy with Yaz are not going to post about it. That kind of put into perspective for me. I'm not trying to sell you on BCP or anything like that. In fact, I avoided taking BCP for over a year, trying other methods to deal with what I was going through. But unfortunately, nothing worked. Anyway, I just wanted to share what it has done for me. But of course, you've got to do what you feel is best for you and your body. It is a difficult decision, and the suffering you are going through doesn't make it any easier. I hope you and your doctor can find something that works and puts an end to this for you.

I have been taking Yaz for a year and half. It works well for me as far as acne and regulating my cylce, but I don't have PCOS. It also hasn't hindered my weight loss (yay).

I take yaz and it is great for short periods, etc. But I do worry it is hindering my weight loss. But perhaps that is just my age. I did Atkins 10 years ago (I was 27) and I lost weight SO MUCH FASTER. I am going to give it one more month and see how much I lose. I have already given up diet Coke and wine. If I don't start losing, I'm going to blame it on the pill and give that up, too! I have about 25 - 30 lbs to lose.

I took Yaz for about a year and stopped on my own since i started having heart palpitations, horrible mood swings and weight gain. It was fantastic for shorter periods with no cramps, but it was definitely causing problems with my health and a strain on my relationship.

My doctor said that with it you need to make sure that you cut out as much caffeine as you can. I am not sure why but just something she said.

maybe because it has a diuretic component and caffeine is a diuretic? but it would be crazy if someone actually dehydrated from it

Ya, my Dr warned me that might happened to me but so far it has not. It's common w/ Yaz.

These are some of the symptoms I have without Yaz. And I could not have caffeine at all (pre-Yaz). It would send me into a panic attack. Now that I am taking it, these symptoms are basically gone, and some have gotten a lot better. It is as if you had PMDD type symptoms while taking Yaz. I've not heard of not being able to have caffeine while taking Yaz ... interesting.

I've had friends who have used it with no problem. With all BCP it will effect everyone differently though. If you want to reduce the number of periods you have another option would be nuvaring. People either love it or hate it, but you can choose to skip periods on it. You just wear it for 4 weeks and then use a new one (it has plenty of hormone for this). I like it and am skipping every other period.

Hi....I took Yaz about 2 years ago. My gyno recommended it to help with the severity of pain from my cramps. However, within 2 weeks of taking it, I was spotting and had MAJOR cramps for almost a full month. My gyno INSISTED i continue taking it and that my cramps would subside when I was used to the pills. Well, they never got better. In fact, one day it was so bad and my bleeding was heavier as if I was on my period. I thought I was having a miscarriage and almost went to the E.R. She tested me to see if I had in fact had a miscarriage because of the severity of the pain/bleeding but I hadn't. My body just completely rejected it. So weird. I've never been on another birth control pill since.
