Pregnancy Thread~~~5/12 to 5/18
Hope everyone had a good weekend!
Heading into my 22 week and if I'm not mistaken, I think I am starting to feel baby move a little more each day. I'm still waiting for the tae bo kick to the side but I guess that will come later..... I have a friend that did alot of Ebay shopping during her pregnancy and said she got a few good deals on some things. Has anyone else ever gone that route? I was just wondering if it was worth looking into or if I would be better off buying a little here and there. This is our first baby and we are starting from scratch. Needless to say I am all about finding a good bargain..... Tried my best to eat well this weekend. I attended a birthday party for a two year old and I didn't even eat a piece of cake....of course that's mostly because he spit all over it when he blew out the candles. --Maybe that would be a good deterent from foods that are not so good for you---just have someone spit on it before you get a chance to eat it!Had steak on Friday night and it was sooo good. If only the rest of the weekend had been so yummy...... Next appointment is Tuesday 5/20 and it's the ultrasound appointment. Can't wait... ![]() Have a great Monday! Happy belated Mother's Day to all expecting mommies!
Reese, I never tried Ebay but am also curious about it... I hope your ultrasound goes well! I'm going for one too on the 21st (for an amnio). Not looking forward to the amnio, but I am to catching a glimpse of my baby! I hope everyone had a good weekend. Mine was nice! We picked up the crib that was given to us, and it's got a nice old-fashioned look to it which is totally my style. Then Sunday, we had two Mother's Day get-togethers to go to. The first one to my parents' place with my family, and dinner at Brian's brother's for his mom. I got a beautiful rose as well as a bunch of hand-me-down baby clothes from my brother and SIL, including a few dresses that I actually wore, believe it or not! I totally blew my eating at dinner though, which was seafood pasta, PLUS I had dessert! And I don't know if it was bloating or what, but although I didn't feel stuffed, I felt like everything was crammed in my belly, and actually had to support it with my hands to feel comfortable. Is this normal???I also got the exciting news that my younger brother and SIL are expecting their first. Our due dates are only two months apart, so we're really excited about having kids so close in age, even though we live in different cities. They had been trying for over a year, and we kept saying that they would probably only get pregnant once I did, which is exactly what happened!Well it's dinner time for the zoo here (1 dog and 3 cats) and they're all trying to get my attention so I'd better go feed them (training for hungry kids?? )Take care, Sylv

Hey Ladies,
Thought I'd pop in on your thread to let you know that Susan (SusieQ12) had her little girl at 1:35 am May 11, 2003, so technically she had her on Mother's Day, although very early Mother's Day. She weighed 7 pounds 5 ounces and was 19 and 1/2 inches long. She has plenty of light brown hair that may have a little wave in it. They are both doing well. I will let her tell you all the rest, don't won't to spoil it all for her, just thought being the proud aunt and all I'd let ya'll know what was happening, they should be going home tomorrow (tues. 5/13/03). Very pround aunt to Bria Caitlynn.

Hi everyone! Congrats Susie and congrats Auntie! What a wonderful Mother's Day present!
Well...I went for my 10 week appointment and found that I have high blood pressure! I have to go back in another week for a check and if it is high again I have to go back in another week and if it is high again I have to go on salt restricted diet. Bummer. I am upset today and feeling like I am doing everything wrong! I have been eating crappy these last few days and need to get back on track. Ladies, I need a slap on the hand! Do you ever feel like no matter how careful you are and how hard you try to be good and safe and healthy that you are still doing everything wrong? Is this what the pregnancy hormones are all about?????

Congrats Susan, what a wonderful mother's day present for you!
Sjoy and others, try not to worry yourself too much over your food. There are so many things that we aren't supposed to do since we are pregnant. I just try my best, and don't worry about the rest. I gave up my two biggest vices in terms of effect on the baby, so I don't worry about sugar etc so much. I figure I am doing really well to have given up cigarettes and also alcohol. I'm 32 weeks now, and have definitely started to feel it. I go to my Dr. tomorrow, we'll see if there is anything interesting going on then. I'm hopeful that my BP is still low, and I know I haven't gained but maybe a 1/2 pound, so that is okay. My sciatic nerve is still acting up, so I will talk to my OB about that and see if she has any suggestions. I'll probably make an appointment for the chiropractor tomorrow as well. I also need to start looking for a pediatrician. Do any of you ladies have any suggestions on the best way to find a good one, questions you would ask/things you would look for etc. I really don't have much of a clue about this. I figure I'll ask my OB about that tomorrow as well, see if she has any recommendations. I hope everyone had a nice mother's day. My DH was really sweet and got me flowers and candy and a wonderful card specially for expecting moms. I must say he did good.

Hello everyone,
Its nice for me to read about what you all are experiencing that are further along. Myself being only roughly 7 weeks I am just starting to research and learn the do's and don'ts. I have to say I feel like crap lately. Almost like I felt when I started induction for the first time. Tired, irritated, headaches, etc. Everything bugs me...its like I am PMSing constantly or something. As far as my diet, I have upped my carbs by eating more fruit. I usually eat a cup of strawberries or an apple a day, and more veggies. I am still losing a little weight though, very very slowly. In the last month I lost 2lbs. Before I was losing 10lbs a month. Do you think that's okay? Or should I up my carbs more? Lately I have been nauseous and feeling not so great, so I am just eating enough to keep me from being sick. Hope everyone has a great week! ![]()

Susan- COngrats! told you that you weren't going ot go over by much if at all! Wonderful news and can;t wait to hear the birth story!
On the subject of ebay....It is my first stop for anything! You can get almost anything there and normally for an exceppent price..in all of the years that I have dealt with it I have only had one bad experience. There is a link by the search thing where you can search for items that have all ready closed to give you an idea what things are selling for...FOr example I got 6 onesies for something like 3.00 total and they still had the "new" creases in them.... My next stop is usually Salvation Army or another thrift store...then garage sale...then regular store. I bought a 1940's windsor type wooden high chair for 25.00 at Salvation Army a few weeks ago. I need to refinish it but I was very excited! sjoy- be sure to up your protein and water intake if you can. One of the major causes of blood pressure/preecamplasia in pregnancy (according to my midwife) is lack of protein, not enough water. I am 36 weeks this week! only 4-7 more to go!!!! Hi to all that follow!

Just checking in for the day.....
Sylv--Good luck with the Amnio. I had one about four weeks ago. For me it helped to NOT look at the needle and keep focus on the ultrasound monitor and watch the baby. It was over before I knew it.....Good luck. sjoy76--I know what you mean. I started out being so careful with my food choices and it seems like they have gotten worse over the past few weeks. I don't mind gaining the weight because I know it's gonna happen....but I could accept it easier if I knew I had been eating as healthy as I could have. Every day I wake up with a new commitment and the next thing I know, they are passing out free Ben and Jerry's at work. sigh..... Dawn--Congrats on kicking the bad habits.....I know it must have been (or still is) hard to do. I lost my mom this past September to lung cancer. She was 51. It makes me beyond happy when someone quits......now as far as the alcohol goes, I am looking forward to a glass of wine after this baby makes his debut! As far as pediatricians go, I just asked all of my friends and got the opinions of the docs they use. I guess we need to decide in the next few months who we are going to use too. misbadu--I don't know about anyone else, but I think I slept through the first 15 weeks or so.....I dozed off everytime someone left me alone for more than 30 seconds....But it will pass. I sort of felt like I was pms'ing the whole time too.....but it's getting better (sort of)--- ![]() Marye---Thanks for the ebay info! I am going to surf some tonight and see if I can find a good deal on some onesies. I looked a little last night but didn't commit to anything---I can't wait to shop some more! Hope everyone has a great day..... |

Good morning ladies! I see that my sister told everyone the good news. We are home now. We came home yesterday evening. Needless to say, things are still pretty chaotic around here.
I want to tell you all my birth story. It was pretty amazing. I don't have time to do that now. I need to get back to sleep while Bria's still asleep. But, I wanted to show you all her picture. I don't know how to put a picture on here, but the hospital has a web site where everyone can see it. If anyone wants to see, just go to www.stjosephhospital.org and click on the "That's my baby" icon. Then click on view photos and put in this code: 032-13015. That should take you to her picture. Yes, I am a very proud mama! I'll check back later. Susan

Susan,
I checked in to see if you had your little one and she is so very cute! I am sure you are totally in love with her already! Congratulations! Can't wait to hear the whole birth story! SOrry I haven't been on in a while...just busy! Reese~ Welcome...back? I am pretty new on here so this is the first time I have "met" you. This is our first baby too and we are borrowing and trying to go as cheaply as possible. Sylv, isn't it nice to do a Mother's Day and not dread going to church for fear you are going to lose it and make a fool of yourself? Way cool that your child could possibly wear some of your old clothing! Sjoy~Good luck with getting your blood pressure down. I hope you can get it down with diet...if not, take the meds. and don't worry about it. My neice had to take bp medicine with her last two kids and they are perfect! And she is a tiny little thing that wasn't a bit overweight...unlike me. My bp has been so far so good. Let us know how you are doing...and if you need to blow off steam just come here and do it! Those pregnancy hormones can really do a number on you! Dawn~congratulations on giving up your vices....I bet that was tough. You are in the home stretch huh? As far as pediatricians....I guess one thing about living in a small town is that my reg. doc is my OB and will be my baby's pediatrician....3 in 1! Good luck finding a pediatrician you like! Misbadu~Welcome! I love the name! Don't worry too much about weightloss in the first trimester....just try to get your protein and veggies and fruit in there. Oh, and lots of water! Marye~You are getting closer too! woohoo! I am a big goodwill shopper. I have gotten most of my maternity clothes there. I love it! I have never tried e-bay though...hmmm it might scare dh if I got started on it! LOL OH, and I love that baby smell too! They need to bottle that fragrance! Gotta go...I am doing well and am feeling more movement everyday! Yeah! I was panicked the other day and went into my Drs. office without and appt. and cried until they let me hear the heartbeat! LOL It was all triggered by a friend's miscarriage. I just needed some reassurance...know what I mean? Only 7 more day of school!!!! Yippee Skippee! Cecilia 17w3d

Good Morning all.
Thanks to Farmgirl and Reeselite for your feedback. I have to say my sense of smell and taste is so funny these days. Some days even water tastes funny to me. I am having a hard time getting enough water and enough food in me during the day. Now the mornings are starting with dry heaves which is not a pleasant way to start the day! However I am getting through knowing that this is all for bringing a new life into the world. Though I do wonder why it has to be so painful and why I have to be so sick.Yesterday I had to leave work early because I could not stay awake, I thought I would pass out. I went home and slept for 3 hours ate some Strawberries and heavy cream and then went to bed and slept for 8.5 more hours. Yikes. I am thinking of adding lemon to my water to help get it down. I swear if the water I am drinking even has the slightest smell or is the wrong temperature I can't seem to drink it. I can not wait until this part of the pregnancy passes. I do not know what I will do if this lasts too much longer. Sorry so long, I am just frustrated and it helps to share with people who understand. Thanks... ![]() |

Misbadu-Try taking extra B vitamins..I know that the idea of swallowing pills is disgusting right now but often extreme bouts of morning sickness are from having low B...
Cecilia- I know what you mean, I have had several miscarriages and when I am pregnant I get rattled pretty easy...If I keep my eyes where they need to be it helps though... Hi to everyone else!!!! |

Farmgirl---Thanks for the welcome! I guess you could say "I'm back"---I posted maybe once or twice when I found out I was pregnant and then I just sort of went on "lurk status" off and on over the past several weeks. Guess I just sort of dove right back in head first---
![]() Misbadu---It will get better. I was told that when you are pregnant your body produces a hormone similar to that of a sleeping pill! I slept so much I was almost depressed--but it will go away soon. Just get the rest you need now and everything else will fall into place. Before you know it, the naps will become less and less......Also, I found that if I let myself get hungry then the nausea came on very quick. Try to keep something on your tummy, which is sometimes hard to do if you have been trying to lose weight before you got pregnant.....but your blood sugar can drop so rapidly that it catches you by surprise and then you feel like ick.........I heard peppermints help with nausea too--but I haven't tried those yet..... Had mexican for dinner last night and it was absolutely yummy. Going to try and make only healthy choices today. They finally passed out the free fruit today for our "Hospital Week" instead of ice cream and candy bars......can't wait for this week to be over! |

Marye and Reese ~ Thanks for your pointers, I will try the B vitamins, (honestly I have not been doing well on taking my vitamins lately, because I have been so sick) but I know they are important, so I will try that.
Your right about transitioning from weight loss to maintaince so fast is really a hard transition. Plus with all the morning sickness its hard to eat. Though I am trying to just eat a really small amount every hour or two. That seems to be the only way to keep from getting sick during the day. So far today I am doing well, snacked on strawberries, some cheese, and a few almonds...so far so good. ![]() I also found out if I keep ice in my water all day that helps me drink more water. Thanks again everyone.... |

Well I am officially nervous now. I went in for another blood pressure check and it is high again. 132/70. The doctor called in the afternoon and said I have to come back in again on Tuesday. Has anyone had this happen? |

CONGRATULATIONS SUSAN- adorable baby!!!
sjoy76- I had high blood preasure with my last two pregnancies. It was 140/98. This time It has stayed at about 113/77 this whole pregnancy. The ONLY time it goes up is when I am consuming to many carbs or I eat sugar. I had a bad (eating) Mothers day weekend and when I went to the mid-wife on Tuesday night my blood preasure was 128/77 and I was terribly swollen up.But I am back to normal today with no swelling at all. All I had to do was cut the carbs and cut the sugar out. So, my question would be- What are you eating? You also should take 1200mg of calcium with 600mg. of Magneseam. Also eating one cucumber a day will lower the blood preasure. There are lots of natural ways to control blood preasure. I know the feeling of almost passing out and it is no fun at all and neither are the weekly appointments at the Docs. Well, I am down to my last 5 days until my due date. I have had two right on their date and four that were early so I'm praying that things will happen sometime soon. Although I have to say this has been the BEST pregnancy I have ever had and if I go over it won't really bother me. Maryee- I spent the Saturday before Mothers day out at Garage sales. I like to take one of the children, while dad watches the rest of them ,and spend one on one time with them. Garage sales and second hand stores are the BEST. I had a GREAT Mothers day. The family took me down and bought me some new patio furniture , dh barbaqued for my side of the family and then we went to DQ and had blizzards. Dh also spent the Saturday before cleaning the house and yard while he took care of the other five children. What a great man!! Well, I have to get going. I hope there will be baby news the next time I check in. Jeanie |

Jeanie: thank you so much for your response. Ok, Ok, so I haven't been eating that smart lately. I didn't realize that that could spike blood pressure so quickly. I am back on my strictest maintenance today. The cucumber idea is great...thanks. Are calcium and magnesium safe in addition to the prenatal?

sjoy76-Yes,taking extra calcium and magnesuim is fine. Most of what you take in a pre-natal is not abosorbed in the body because you are mixing too many vitamins and minerals together. Be very careful with your diet and things just might turn around. Your blood preasure is not really that high. So don't panic and give low carb a chance to control it before you try more drastic measures. Also a liquid calcuim-mag. combo is best. Your body will absorb it better.

Congratulations to those who have had babies in the last few weeks and to those who are newly pregnant.
I have not been online for quite a few weeks. I have been trying to deal with pregnancy. I was not gaining weight so I completely went off atkins. Mind you I still ate healthy but more carbs. To my supprise I went for my glucose tolerance test and have failed miserably. I have since been working with the diabetes drs and nurses the last few weeks trying to get my blood glucose down. I have failed in this also. Today is my first day of insulin injections, this is to continue till the baby is born in July. I feel bad about it but there is nothing else I can do. I am anoyed at the fact that when I was eating less carbs, i was not gaining, and then when I was eating more good carbs, my glucose went way up. Talk about frustrating. I now have the task of eating 6 times a day testing my blood and urine and giving injections twice a day. At this rate I dont think I will be doing much more durring the day. I dont know how i will be able to go out and shop and things with this scedule. Sorry i am down but it is frustrating. Hope you all do much better the rest of your pregnancies than i am right now. |
