Pregnancy thread: April 21 - 27
Good Monday morning, and congrats again to Kimberly on the birth of her daughter!
![]() I hope everyone had a great Easter weekend. Yesterday was the day Brian and I made our announcement to our families. We had everyone over for Easter lunch and it was perfect, the weather was gorgeous (a nice switch from recent chilly temps) and people were in a good mood. Before eating, I asked that all pose for a group picture (we were 26 total) and we set it up so that everyone would be visible. The first shots had me and Brian in them, and then we took over the cameras (despite some protests). I yelled "Are you ready?" and then we said "We're going to have a baby!". There were a few chuckles, like we were saying that to get them to smile, but after a very *pregnant* pause (pun intended), with us clicking away, the tears started flowing everywhere and everybody came to hug us. I must say, it was one of those extra special moments in my life and I'm glad we'll have it captured on film. ![]()

Wow! Sounds like you had a great Easter!
We haven't told many yet. My mom always is the first to know, and my brother and his wife figured it out this weekend, but promised not to tell yet. We are going to wait until June. My Easter went pretty well, wish I could say the same for my eating! Why do they have so many candies on Easter? I caved, only a little. One cookie and 2 tiny chocolate Reeses egg thingies. I really need to focus on my eating here. Other than that, nothing new here. Today is my 25th (OUCH!) birthday ![]() |

Evening ladies!
Sylv ~ That was so sweet the way you told the family. It almost made me cry just reading it. Gotta love these pregnancy hormones. I tell ya, I can cry at the drop of a hat these days! It really was sweet though! Sarah ~ Glad you and Emma are doing well. I hope to be joining all of you on the "bouncing back" thread real soon! Cecilia ~ I'm glad to see that you're doing well and back on track with your eating. I wish I was, but with 2 1/2 more weeks left, it's too late for me now. But I am gonna kick butt with this weight after my baby girl is born! Diane ~ Welcome. Looking forward to getting to know ya. As for me, I'm moving along. At my doctor's appointment last week, the doc said everything is still closed up tight. The baby is head down, but she hasn't dropped yet. She said that while anything is possible, she doesn't forsee me having her before her due date. With my luck, I'll probably go late. That's alright though. My due date is May 9th, and my step son's birthday party is May 10th. That was the only day convenient for everyone, so I am kind of hoping I don't go into labor the day before. I would hate to feel like I ruined his party. He's only six, so I'm sure it would break his heart if his dad and I couldn't be there. Alright, I've rambled enough for today. Hope everyone has a nice evening and hello to those who follow! Susan

Hey everyone....
I am glad Easter is over! Between banana pudding, cheesecake and chocolate I bet this baby weighs 6 lbs all ready...Grrrrr..I have to get back on track...I only have about 7 weeks to go and this is when it is the hardest for me to fight sweet cravings AND the most likely that the baby will put on that extra weight. Diane- 25 is just a babe....yesterday was my birthday as well....43. I celebrated by going antiquing....Dragged ALL the kids along plus my 21 yr old and her baby...it was fun though. Sylv- what a cool way to tell your family. What wonderful memories too! Susan- Praying that you don't go too far over if at all..I know how THAT feels! Cecilia- you are doing great! I really DO need to get back on track...I just wish that it was easier to cook for a large family AND stay on the diet...Everyone here has a sweet tooth so betweeen nightly desserts and the muffins, pancakes, french toast that happens at breakfast I feel like I am beyond my ability to be disciplined..I am usually o.k. when not pregnant. We are hoping to be in the new house the end of THIS week. (I know, I am saying that weekly) I have been reading in the renovation magazines how people buy old houses and then restore them for 10 years before they move in..I don't think I have THAT kind of patience. Two months has been all I can take and i am not sure our bank account can take much more either. I am definitely feeling the 'it's time to sit and incubate' feelings that I get toward the end of a pregnancy..Hopefully by next week I can be sitting in the sunroom with my feet up most of the day... Hope everyone is feeling great.

Just found out :)
Hi everyone
Hoping to join the pregnancy thread - we just found out last night that we're about 5.5 weeks pregnant! We're very excited, but wondering what the heck to do with my diet - I've always been a "near induction" atkins follower - been on the diet for over three years now (lost 60 lbs and kept off for all three years) so now that this morning I had a piece of pumpernickel bread, I feel bloated and fat. Then again, I've been feeling bloated for a month, but I feel like buying a size 8 pair of jeans now for the first time in 3 years and I'm a bit scared. . . Guess I have a few questions: (can you tell this is our first pregnancy?) 1. Do Atkins followers gain weight faster than "normal" pregnancies? I already feel like I've gained weight and can't just do a quick two day induction to feel better as usual. 2. When can you actually see the baby on an ultrasound? We have our first ob.gyn appt. May 19 (so far!!) so I'm wondering if I should get my hopes up or not. I know I have more questions but don't want to bore everyone right now. . . thanks for any advice whatsoever Kerry

Kerry,
I'm so glad you said that! Now I know that I'm not the only one that feels like I have gotten huge already, I'm only a little over 6 weeks! I think it is being bloated because of adding more carbs to the diet, I hope! On your first ultrasound, you will see a sac, not really anything else. Well, sometimes a heartbeat! That's exciting! Sorry I can't answer your other question! Good luck to you! |

Hi everyone!
Diane: Happy Birthday! Kerry: Welcome! I totally know what you mean about feeling bloated and huge already but let me tell you my experience so far. I am 9 weeks this Wednesday. As soon as I found out I was pregnant (about 3 weeks ago) I started adding in low carb bread, fruit, and juice. I have only gained 2 lbs. I have decided that I will stick to mostly lean meats, veggies, water, fruit and juice with 2 slices of low carb bread w/ peanut butter every morning (for now...I'm sure I'll get sick of it soon enough). I try to keep my carbs between 70 and 80 grams a day and that seems to be working for me. I can't wait for my ultrasound tomorrow! We are hoping to hear the baby's heartbeat!

Hi everyone! I am not preggers (or don't know if I am...hee hee), but hubby and I are not taking any measures to prevent and so I, like kerry, am wondering how to eat! i know ketosis is bad for a baby...but I don't want to gain back all my weight! How do you all handle this?
Thanks in advance and congratulations to all of you mommies! |

Hi Kerry, welcome and congratulations!
![]() I can only tell you my experience so far with weight gain, which was to gain 4-5 pounds right off the bat from changing my diet to add grains, fruit and milk, but nothing since (I'm at 12 weeks now). I think there's an initial reaction but your body gets used to it. The trick is to relearn to handle hunger once ketosis falls to the wayside, and not give in to any bad food choices (junk is still junk). Happy belated birthday Diane and Marye! ![]() |

Thanks to everyone for making me feel so welcome - and NORMAL
Been reading info on the web and all I've read seems to be for the typical, "I never thought about my weight at all" woman. Today I had 1/2 cup of real milk with low carb cereal for lunch and my typical eggs and bacon for breakfast. Think I'll add a slice of bread tonight along with the normal meal of meat and veggies. Thanks again ![]() |

milk
I read somewhere that milk was important to get the calcium, etc. so I decided to suck it up and drink some
I figured I was having 1/2 cup, which was 8 grams of carbs, and that I can live with. I'll get the rest of the calcium from cheese I suppose. I've been off low carb for three days now - somewhat. Having fruit with my eggs and bacon for breakfast (cut to two slices of bacon instead of 4) and for lunch I had high protein low-er carb cereal with milk. Last night had steak, some creamed spinich and a salad, plus, the baby=hunger thing kicked in so I had a piece of pumpernickel bread with peanut butter for a snack and a cheese stick. I'm not going to weigh myself, but I haven't noticed any weight gain apart from the bloating I was feeling anyway. Oh, and on the milk, I had whole yesterday but when I can get to the market I'll be getting 2%. ![]() |

Fruits
Another question. Fruits?
Which fruits are you introducing back into your diet? I'm trying to chose low glycemic type fruits, but not sticking too much with that. What ones are the best for us? |

fruit
Well, I had strawberries yesterday (ok, it was like three of them, less than 1/2 cup but it's a start!) and am planning on having blueberries tonight or tomorrow. Trying to stay away from bananas but they are SO convenient. I think they will be my "first trimester" treat (when I get to the end of the first trimester okay)
Got a lot of those, 2nd Tri is going to be a doozy! ![]() |

Hi ladies! Hope everyone is doing well! Welcome kerry and diane.
Well, I had a little bit of excitement yesterday afternoon. Right before I left work I had some spotting. Nothing to really be alarmed about, but I couldn't help feeling a little exicted that maybe something was happening. By the time I got home, the spotting had stopped, but I had some af type cramps. DH insisted that we go and walk the track at the recreation center around the corner. We walked 1 1/2 miles, but nothing else happened last night. I have had some sharp pains this morning, but nothing consistent and there is definately no pattern. But, I did have my doctor's appointment a little while ago. I have not dialated (sp?) any, but she said I am 60-70 percent effaced and the baby's head has dropped. So I guess that's a start. I'm really starting to get excited now! Well, gotta get back to work. I'll check back later. Susan |

Yeah Susan......a start is a start is a start!!!! I'm sure you are ready to get the show on the road!!!!!
Sjoy....how did your appt. go? did you hear that sweet little heart beat? ![]() I started out eating quite a bit of fruit...but then my tastebuds and stomach revolted and strawberries and banana made me gag....but.....I am loving the veggies and eating tons of them! I was able to get a glass of orange juice down in the morning and that was ok. Now I have switched to V-8 and like it even better in the morning. Only 6 more days and counting Christine!!!! YOu must be ready to pop...both emotionally and physicallly! Can't wait to hear your labor and delivery story!!! We want details!!! Mary, I'm sorry you didn't get into your house for your birthday...but I hope you had a good one in spite of it! Diane, Dec. 10th is a great day to have a baby! Actually.....any day is a great day! LOL Kerry, welcome and congratulations on your pregnancy!! Cecilia 14w3d |

Yeah Susan! Good Luck!
Cecilia: I had my ultrasound and we got to SEE the heartbeat but not hear it. It was AWESOME! I am not as far along as the Dr. originally estimated. They moved my EDD from 11/16 to 12/7. Pretty close to Diane's, right? Kerry: i eat a handful of strawberries every morning and lately I have had a few green apples. Have a great day ladies! |

Diane24A-Sorry to burst the milk bubble. but your body will not absorb the calcium in the milk. If you are really concerned about it then you need to take a liquid Calcium-magnesium combination. And you should be getting 1200mg of calcium and 600mg of magnesium a day. That is what I take . I never take a pre-natal because your body does not absorb all the different things when they are put together like that,so I take individual vitamins at different times. By the way this is my 7th baby so I have a little experience.
We had a interesting day yesterday. My 5 year old decided to get his finger caught in the applesauce can,so we had to rush him to the Doc. and have him stiched up. He cut half way through the top of his finger. Well, I have diapers to dry and laundry to fold.I'd better go do it. Jeanie ![]() |
