I was just wondering if you ladies count your carbs, or are you eating what you want? Last pregnancy there was a threat for gestational diabetes. I was able to control it with my eating and never had to take anything for it but I think I will get a headstart on things and keep the carbs low now. Any suggestions on the number of carbs I should be eating. I am thinking about 60? Does that sound right?

Not counting my carbs - haven't been for awhile - but I tend towards LC eating generally. That has changed since being pregnant - I definitely am wanting some bread, pasta and tortillas - but all whole grain and not tons. Since I haven't been wanting much, I just go with what sounds good - fortunately I've built up good habits the last year and I don't seem to ever want junk. Chocolate sounds disgusting and the worst thing I've had is ice cream which I don't consider "bad" really anyway - especially compared to oreos, candy, etc.

I remember when I was active on the Atkins board they always said at least over 50 if pregnant or nursing and I believe it was closer to 90. I know others here, perhaps Nik, will be wiser on this topic. Good luck!

Thanks Tinkerloo. That helps out. I was thinking at least sixty so we will see how the upwards goes over. Thanks for the reply.

Hi there! I hesitated a couple of times for different reasons before sharing my status (the first hesitation was because I wanted my siblings to know first! hehe) but I am following this thread because yes, I am pregnant. My due date is June 28th, but the babies will probably be here in May... did you catch that, I said babies! I am having identical twins. There are risks involved (another reason I hesitated) so I am excited but also a bit scared and praying constantly. I was not TTC and when I did I was shocked then when I found out it was twins after I thought I might miscarry (spotting) I was doubly shocked! but feeling blessed and so excited.

Working late... I'm staring out at a group of kids who are "diligently" doing their homework... At least they're silent.

Amy: I'll whine with you. I've been feeling like poo lately. Just general discomfort and the inability to eat anything. I seem to have really lost my appetite. I'm 30 weeks on Saturday, so I'm definitely into my seventh month. Any advice? Should I be worried that I am not very hungry? I'm working on cutting carbs, too. They could be making me feel icky. I figure that if I don't want to eat much, I don't need to fill up with sugar and starch, even though they "feel" good in my belly.

I've gained even more weight, and I'm going to weigh in a few days in a row to see if I'm bloated. Then, I'll update my enormous growth.

Nik - I don't think that you should be worried about not be hungry. With my last pregnancy when I was about as far along as you I felt a full feeling all the time and hardly ever could take more than a few bites. I am sure the baby is doing fine and you should just eat when you feel hungry and stop when it is enough.

Maryposa - . Congratulations on the twins. Twice the love but twice the work It will be so worth it. YOu will do fine.

Freeman~My doc told me to focus on getting 80-100 grams of protein each day, she said that was much more important than limiting carbs.

Katy: I agree. If you're eating that much protein, it's hard to get any room for carbs! Of course, I always seem to find a little corner of my belly for some chocolate (which I am starting to think is the primary cause for my recent heartburn).

TMI Alert: I am feeling SO much better, and even had a pretty average sized dinner (1 1/2 chicken strips + 1 fish filet + 1/2 C corn). shhhhh....I think I was constipated.

I don't think I could get that much protein down right now if all I was eating was protein. It makes me really worry that I'm not giving this little bean all it needs for a good brain foundation. Some days I know I'm close, but others not at all. If the queasiness would leave me alone I could work on it Soon I hope!

Hi all!

First off, I just wanted to say how sorry I am to read about the losses we had on the board here they past few weeks I hope everyone is doing ok.

Well, I have been just trying to recover and get back to normal the past 2 weeks. I ended up getting an infection in my incision, so I have been dealing with that for a week now. It is pretty much gone after a week on antibiotics, but still a pain to deal with. I am finally able to get up and about a little easier. I went to the store yesterday and was able to do a little grocery shopping. That was one of my first outings besides going to the hospital to see the boys, whch I do every day. Today I have my first Dr. Appt since the boys were born. Not quite as exciting as when they babies were inside, but its got to be done, right? Not much else is going on. Just trying to get back into a routine. HOpe everyone else is doing great.

Oh yeah, Ive been thinking about starting atkins again, but Im not sure if its too soon, especially with me currently pumping and hoping to breastfeed once the boys are home. What do you all think?

Maryposa! I would love to have twins, how exciting! Are you planning on finding out the sex of the babies? Congratulations!!

Krysta: I hope you are feeling better today. As for following Atkins I'm not sure about the low carbs and breastfeeding. I know when I breastfed I was extremely hungry all the time. Everyone says that you lose weight fast when you breasfeed but I actually held onto weight while doing it. I would think that if your body goes into Ketosis you don't want the ketones to get to the babies. But, I would definitely as your doctor for his/her approval.

Nik: Glad you're feeling better, being "backed-up" is miserable. Does your prenatal vitamin have a stool softener? That seems to help me tons. Also, don't worry about not eating much, the baby only needs a little. I can't believe you're 30 weeks already, that went FAST!

Amy: How are you feeling today? I promise you it should only last til the 12th-14th week. I felt good yesterday and I feel better today. Last night I ate too much for dinner and got really uncomfortable and thought I was going to puke. I'm just so darn hungry these days.

Freeman: I don't count carbs at all right now. I'm just getting over nasty m/s so I basically eat what sounds good. I would just try to keep things healthy like fruit, veggies, meats, whole grains, etc. My menu yesterday was terrible. I had Captain Crunchberries for breakfast, Long John Silvers fish for lunch, and meatloaf, carrots, & mashed potatoes for dinner. I also had a chocolate cupcake with cream filling and pumpkin spice coffee for dessert. No wonder I felt like I was gonna puke!

Mel: How's Jacob doing? I can't wait til I can feel all the flutters and kicks!

AFM: Not too much going on here. I crave cereal every morning so that's what I eat. Today was Captain Crunchberries again My only problem is my hips hurting when I'm sleeping. I keep having to switch from side-to-side to get comfortable. Other than that I'm doing much better without the m/s.

Jacob is doing great, I am starting to feel heavy in my tummy, third trimester is here and I can feel the difference

I have had the issue with pain in my hips since the beginning, I still roll from one side to the other all night long.

Sorry for the all the losses on here.

I am 20 week...half way there. I am happy and sad. Cant wait to meet this little girl BUT this MIGHt be my last pregnancy/baby

My hips hurt so bad. Especially at night. I toss and turn all night.
A lot of times a wake up and I am on my back. And sometimes I am on my side but almost my stomach. It feels better to get the presure off of my stomach when I sleep like that.

My hips were hurting a lot more. The baby is really low and to the right. And that is which side usually hurts to walk on.

Hmm, the baby is low but I am gaining weight high. It that normal?

Good morning -
So far so good this morning except for the fact that I was up from 12 - 3 this morning wide awake. I usually get up at 4:45 so I decided to turn the alarm off and work from home today. I still woke up at 6, so I'm not really rested, but at least I don't have to commute.

It's funny because once the ms wears off in the late afternoon I feel so dramatically different it's amazing. However, by then I'm so tired I can't really appreciate it! I look forward to this part being DONE!

Have a good day ladies!

Thanks to all who welcomed and congratulated me.

Gracie, yes... I do want to know the sex of the babies (since they are identical it will be two girls or two boys). I read that statistically there are more girl identical twins than boy identical twins. Since I have so many Dr.s appointments, I am hoping to find out "early" ... my sister in law found out at 14 weeks! ... Which was a surprise for her.

Gracie - I am really hungry to here lately. For the last couple of days I have been watching how much bread and potatoes and starchy things like that I eat and it seems like I feel full longer.

Tylar_Connar - My back seems to be hurting really bad this pregnancy. My last pregnancy at about 4 months my back started getting sharp pains in the lower right. I was vomiting really bad from it and went to the hospital and they thought I might have had kidney stones but that was it. SO I just had to deal with it until after. I still had pain after the delivery and had to go to PT and all kinds of things. They said it was just somthing I will kind of have to deal with because they really can't find anything that is causing it. Anyway these little guys are worth it. Hope yours gets better.

I'd like to ask for your help on some protein small meal ideas. As you've heard me say, I'm not getting enough protein in and I've definitely learned that it helps with morning sickness. It also helps if I have several smaller snack meals throughout the earlier part of the day - I seem to bounce back in the later afternoon and can get a meal in then.

I'd love to make a batch of some items that are easy to take to work and have a few at a time every few hours as I feel queasy. I'm thinking of things like a healthy version of chicken nuggets, or maybe some yummy meatballs or something good and cheesy. I seem to be doing better with things that have stronger flavors than bland (chicken salad was not a favorite!) and not mushy things - although something like a quiche might not be a bad idea now that I think of it.

So I'd love any recipes that you might have to help me out or ideas of things to pick up.

Today seemed to go fairly well - each time I got queasy I tired to eat something healthy and protein oriented and it seems to have worked - I'm hoping I'm over the hump for today.

Amy: I packed in my first trimester lunch box:
peanuts
cheese cubes
raisin bran
pb&j
yogurt

I swear by the smoothie. I wish I had started it at day one. Here's my recipe:
whey protein (1/4 C NOW brand)
egg white powder (1/4 C NOW brand)
1/4 C HWcream
3/4 C almond milk
cocoa powder (3 heaping tsps)
1 pkt splenda
1 pkt stevia
splash of davinci's SF vanilla syrup
1 C ice

You'll have to find your best ratios. This giant smoothie makes about 32 ounces full of fat and protein. Now, I can sip it for three hours. During the first trimester, it may have taken more time. It's great because it's portable, it's inconspicuous, it's full of nutrition, and you can sip whenever you feel nauseated. I figured that with everything, it had about 50 grams of protein. Start your day that way, and getting 20 more grams in through the rest of the day seems easy!

Amy: I'm no good at planning, I just kind of wing it. I never know what I'm going to be craving each day. I like Nik's ideas though of pb&j and cheesesticks. Today at work I brought a big tangerine and a rice krispie treat for snacks. I seem to crave red sauce alot so I'm making meatball hoagies for supper.

Freeman: The back pain sounds horrible. Are you having it now or just with your last pregnancy? Still had the hip aches all night long.

Maryposa: Yup, I'm 14 weeks and I read that all the sex organs are in place and could be detected on an u/s. We've opted not to find out this time because we found out with our first two children. I have a boy and a girl so I figure a surprise will be nice. In your case I would definitely find out because you're gonna need LOTS of stuff!!! Does your motherly instinct tell you boys or girls?

TylerConnar: I feel the same way as you. I'm totally beyond happy about this pregnancy but I also know this will most likely be my last. I'm 36 and this is kind of hard for me this time around. I work full-time and have two young children at home so I'm exhausted without being pg! I just feel blessed to be given the gift of a third child.

Mel: Third trimester already! Girl, it is going FAST! My hips pretty much started hurting immediately too. My shoulder always hurts too. I know it's only going to get worse because I'm only gonna get bigger!

AFM: Couldn't sleep last night. I went to bed at 9 pm and woke up around midnight. I tossed and turned til about 3:30 am and then started having really "odd" dreams that kept waking me up. So today at work I feel really tired and cranky. I also had a headache in bed but I was too lazy to go downstairs and get the tylenol. Oh well, hopefully tonight I'll get some rest.

Gracie - I do still have the pain and it just started to get worse. The pain never goes away but it does ease up with core strengthening exercises and things like that. I hope it doesn't get as bad as it did last time. Guess I will just have to wait and see.

Morning Ladies!
I'm with all of you that are having hip and lower back aches. I wouldn't call any of mine pain at this point, just enough to be annoying. I do notice my breasts are still growing but nowhere near as sore and painful as they were.

Thanks for the smoothie recipe Nik - that gave me some good ideas for changing mine up a bit - I don't always feel like strawberry or fruity which is what I usually make. I'm not really drawn to it at all right now, but I can get it down and it makes me feel good to know I'm getting the protein. It doesn't seem to help with the queasies like something more solid does though. I'm going to raid Trader Joes sometime in the next few days - I love their enchiladas - so mindless and a good punch of protein in not too much food.

Hi to everyone else - Bridgett, Maryposa, TylarConnar - Welcome if I haven't said it yet!

OH - I have my final RE appt this morning so will see the little "grape" again today. 9 weeks today!
- Amy

Amy: Yay! I'm very happy that everything went well. I think my bean's heartbeat was 168 and then 156, both in the same appointment. I've read the Old Wive's Tale of 140 and above is a girl! It was true for me, my DS heartbeat was always in the 140's and my DD's was always in the 160's. Are you planning on finding out the sex? As you know, I want a surprise!

Oh Mel!: Turkey dinner - yummmmmmmmmm! It makes my meatball hoagies sound pretty insignificant! I envy you!

Gracie -
I have to admit I've heard the tale about higher being a girl and when it jumped up from 137 two weeks ago to 168 today I did have a moment of glee! I would love a girl, but all my friends and myself included have been having "boy" thoughts even from before I was pregnant - so not sure what's going to happen and I am truly fine with either but have always seen myself as a mom to little girl. I will find out if I can which I most likely will be able to if I decide to do any screening following genetic counselling in a couple of weeks. Still deciding on all that though.

I'm SO looking forward to Turkey dinner next week! I hope the queasies cooperate!
- Amy
