Has anyone had one, and what was it like? My gyno reccomended one for me since I have really painful heavy TOM. My DH and I are done having kids, we have 3 ( 9,13,16) a friend of mine had one and said its the best thing shes ever done for herself, but I wanted to hear more opinions..
Thanks, Kristy |

Kristy,
Endometrial Ablation results can vary from person to person. I know many people who said it was the best thing ever and then there was mine. I had what is now considered a "failed ablation" as my normal periods returned within 3 months. It was wonderful at first, just slight bleeding but then it came back full force, although there were some odd months where it was just spotting, which made it confusing. Your lining can grow back on its own and apparently mine did. One caution though, the procedure may not help with the pain as your body will still go through the motions of its cycle; even when I wasn't bleeding I was still cramping, just not quite as bad. Again, this will vary from person to person. But I don't want to discourage you from doing this, I just want to be honest. Ultimately, it can't hurt to have the procedure, it may work wonders for you, it may not. Just like any procedure, nothing is guaranteed. Basically there are 3 outcomes: you won't ever bleed again, you'll have light periods, or there will be no change. It won't get worse from the procedure.

Thanks for the input, I had read that some people have it come back.. Im keeping my fingers crossed Im not one of them!
the only thing Im not looking forward to is the endo biopsy which Ive heard is over quickly thankfully.. Im taking BCP's right now and I feel like they are messing with me emotionally so after the procedure Im going to do away with them and see how I feel, Im only taking them to have shorter periods and less pain, DH and Ia re done having kids.. |

it does depend on how your body reacts.. as for me I had it done 4 yrs ago. I thought this is great..spotting only..2 days at the most and very light. Well now, my period is back...
my sister and friend at work have had it done and no period or spotting for them.. would i do it again..you bet.. it was a breeze.. in and out the same day.. now i have to see what my dr. will do next.. |

I was having periods lasting 20 days out of the month and became extremely anemic-had to have iron by iv transfusions. I went in the hospital on an emergency basis for surgery and my gyno discovered I had uterine fibroids that grew inward in my uterus-thats why the cat scans weren't picking them up. So I had a uterine ablation and while it didn't stop my period it slowed it down to a normal flow and took care of the fibroids as well. I know they may possibly come back but this was a great procedure for me. Have your gyno check for the possibility of fibroids growing inward in your uterus too.

This is a great website that helped me a lot when I was trying to decide what to do: Endometrial Ablation Discussion - Message Board - Yuku
I had the Novasure AE done in December and so far it's been great! The procedure really wasn't a big deal .. I slept through it and woke up with just a little cramping. There was spotting for probably 3 weeks. Had two much lighter periods and since then have skipped 3 more COMPLETELY not even any spotting and barely any cramping. So, I'm pretty happy so far They say it can take up to a year to find out how you will end up. Over all I'm very happy with it.

I had this procedure in april 07. I went in had it done and was out the same day. I had alittle spotting for about 2 months and haven't had my period since then. I love it.

Yeah. Instead of the massive blood loss, I have a somewhat normal period for 3 days and it's over. The pain, though...Seems to start as soon as I ovulate and doesn't let up until after the first day of the period. I asked the gyn about it and he said it was unusual but didn't say anything else. I have to wonder if the scar tissue grew in wrong or if he something else is wrong that he didn't see before. Since the procedure I've had 2 uterine biopsies. The biopsy I had before was not noticeable but the ones after I fainted from the pain. He will not be allowed to do another without knocking me out first.
Please keep in mind this was years ago. The advancements they've made since then must be phenomenal and your results will without a doubt turn out much better than mine. Keep us posted! |
