Found a lump in my breast

Last night I detected a lump in my right breast. It alarmed me and I got very concerned. It wasn't there 2 days ago. It was also day 1 of my cycle so I was thinking it might be menstrual related. I got off BCP in January and my body is still adjusting to normal cycles.

I'm going to the doctor after work to get it checked out. I hope it's nothing.

Anyone else experience this? I can't help but feel a bit nervous.

This can be very scary, I have had surgery for so many lumps I have lost track (only one was a complex cysts, which is a cyst filled with blood, the others were lumps). None of my lumps have been cancerous, although three have had atypical ductal hyperplasia which can develop into cancer. Since all my lumps had to be surgically removed, they finally did a partial mastectomy, hoping this would slow them down. Ha, I have had 5 more since then. Remember 80% of lumps are harmless, but all lumps need to be checked out.

It could be hormonal related, but still needs an immediate check up with a mamogram and possibly an ultrasound and or biopsy. Remember lumps generally take time to grow, hormonal ones just appear out of nowhere. If they think it is hormonal, your doctor may wait until your period is over to evaluate. If this unexceptable to you, speak out, it is your body and your piece of mind.

Hang in there, scary as it is, it may just be nothing. What comforted me was doing a lot of research to understand the different kind of lumps, statistics, etc.

Let us know what the doctor says.

That's got to be one of the scariest things to deal with as a woman I haven't gone through it personally, but a couple of very close friends have and both turned out to be hormone-related cyst-type masses. Yours probably is too, but it's always best to get it checked out. KUP, I'll be praying for you in the meantime

Thanks for your support.

I'm trying not to think about it but I won't have piece of mind until I go and have it checked out.

I'll share my experience.

Oh, I did notice you are from Toronto, I love that city. I use to go up there every month on business for about four years straight. I usually was out in Mississauga, but would venture downtown if I had to stay over a weekend. And of all your great restaurants, its funny I crave Swiss Chalet!

Yup, I'm from Toronto. Today the weather is rainy but at least it's not snowing anymore.

I work right in downtown near the CN Tower and Sky Dome (now called the Rogers Centre).

I was craving for Swiss Chalet for lunch earlier..

I just called my family doctor and he's off sick. So I can't see him until next Tuesday.

What am I going to do? Should I wait or go somewhere else to get the lump check out.

Yeeks, you will stress the whole weekend. It's your peace of mind that I am worried about. Once my doctor went on a three week vacation, they offered to have me see another one, but at the time I was getting use to the whole lump thing and was not that stressed. Do you have a gyno that is available? I know your medical is different that in the states, but for your own peace of mind you might want to see someone sooner. The lump could actually even disappear by Tuesday and that to me would almost be as stressful, because you see the doctor, but he has not much to go on. In my wish washy statement here, my opinion would be to see one now. I use to work at a gyno office and they would bring woman in immediately for a lump check just to calm them. Plus if you have to have a mammogram, you will have another wait on top of this one.

Yes and it turned out, thankfully, to be an infected duct that had to be needle aspirated. Mine was painful. You should see the locum. At least they can start the process of what to look for, i.e. ultrasound, etc.
Best to you.

Should I go to a walk-in clinic then? Maybe they can refer me to a lab.

Yes, it will be on my mind all weekend until I see the doc.

Yes, I would. If their is no locum in place for your Dr. or no one else can see you then you should go. My Dr. sent me immediately to the Women's Hospital, which totally freaked me and they did the ultrasound right away. And then came out and explained what they were going to do. I remember bursting into tears with relief. Mind you that was about 12 years ago.

Of course, like someone else said, these things are slow growing so if you have a good relationship with your Dr. then wait but if your freaked out and will worry all weekend then go to a walk-in.

I've decided to wait until tomorrow to go to the Doctor because it will be easier since he knows my history.
All weekend I monitored the lump and it got smaller. It's not as dense as it was on Thursday. My guess is that it's menstrual related nonetheless, I will still have it checked out. I hope it's nothing to be concerned about.

Thanks for your support

Just wanted to pop in and see how you're doing. Did you get it checked out?
