Pregnancy Thread - Jan 8 to 12

Hello ladies!

I figured since no one else started the thread yet, that I would. I made it until Sunday, so that we can start a new one on Monday again.

Not much going on here. Tomorrow I go for my 38 week check up. The last couple of days I haven't been having as many contractions as I was. So I am not expecting any cervical change this time again.

I will be talking to the doctor about his posterior postion and the likelihood of him turning. Somehow I don't think I will be that lucky. The placenta is attached in the front as well. From what I read, babies generally face their placenta.

Anyone here have experience with giving birth vaginally to a large posterior baby?

Hope everyone is feeling well.

For a posterior baby (remember all of mine have been large..9.5+) my midwife always recommends sitting on a kitchen chair backwards. It is less comfortable for the baby to be posterior in this position and causes him to get more comfortable. Whenever you sit(at home) lean your fore arms ont he chairback and straddle the seat. Lean forward as mucha s you can and still be comfortable. Not very ladylike but every one of mine have turned by the time I went into labor. Another place to look is at gentlebirth.org. In the search engine type in posterior presentation...suboptimal fetal positions should come up. Click ont hat and it has a ton of great information. hope this helps

Marye: Thank you for the suggestion of the chair. I think I will try that. I have done some research on positions to try in order to get the baby to turn. Most suggest either crawling on the floor on all fours, or taking a knee to chest postion except if you have an anterior placenta, which I do. Apparently, taking those positions with an anterior placenta puts all the baby's weight on the placenta and may compress the cord. So needless to say, I won't be doing those!

Hello everyone! Man, it seemed like it took about 5 minutes just to log on!

Hi Mary.

Steph- I'm sure you won't have much longer. Hang in there.

I have my ultrasound appointment tomorrow. I am so excited. I will be 23 weeks as of Friday, so if the baby cooperates, we should be able to tell the sex. I do have a question though. Will I have to have a full bladder or does it matter this far along? Just curious. I also have my regular checkup tomorrow, so I was wondering if I had to pee in a cup and then sit there long enough for my bladder to fill back up again. Whatever it takes though. I am sooooo anxious to see the little bean and make sure it's healthy!

Well, I have to get back to work now. Hi to those who follow!

Susan

Marye- Thanks for the info! My third child was posterior, and I didnt realize you could do anything about it. Nice to know there are options!

Susie- Every doc is different, but I am pretty sure you will not need a full bladder for your ultrasound tomorrow. By this time, things are pretty accessible.

Things are going well here, other than I am just so fatiqued. I really hate that part about pregnancy....just dont wanna do anything!

New - Questions

I lost my baby at 11wks - that was a month ago tomorrow. I gained some weight just because I wasn't eating right. A few years back I lost 47lbs and maintained for over 2 years. I then fell of the Lo-Carb lifestyle and gained 25 back. I started Induction 2 days ago again. My husband and I want to try to get pregnant again (we need a girl ) But I don't want to be unhealthy or gain a lot of weight (gained 45 with my first and 65 with my second - lost all but the last 25 + what I was already up ) I want to stay on induction and try to lose a bit before we get pregnant again. My goal is to lose 35lbs. Any suggestions on what to do or how to eat now or once we become pregnant again? Help!

Well I went to the dr today. My first appointment! She couldnt find a heartbeat and was commenting on how my uterus is not sitting like it should. She says it is still bigger than a non pregnant person but it is further back into my stomach than normal. I have to go back in 2 weeks to check on the heartbeat again then. She says it may be because of my excess weight. I carry most of it in my stomach. So please make lots of prayers for baby heartbeats.

Morning everyone. Not much going on here. My little boy is moving and kicking up a storm. Wonder if he will be a soccer player or somthing.

Will be skinny: I wouldn't worry too much about them not finding the heartbeat. I belong to epregnancy message boards and there are people in my month that didn't hear theirs till about 16 weeks. I think it is quite common for them not to be able to find it.

weezieworks good luck with TTC! As far as what we eat, I think most of the ladies on here do maintance with some extra whole grains. Others will be able to answere that better than me since I completly fell off the wagon.

Susan, wishing you open leg vibes!! I happened to have a full bladder when I went and the tech commented on it as to why I had drank so much. I had just had some oj cause people told me that when you have oj it makes them more active. I didn't feel like I had to go to the bathrroom at that point. As for peeing in a cup, I havn't had to do that since my first appt. I don't know if maybe I will have to at my next or not.

>>I have a queston for Marye. Have you ever had a water birth? This will be my second homebirth and seventh baby.
Nope...My daughter had her first at the birth center, attended by my midwife and she labored in the whirlpool for a long time. SHe said it made a HUGE difference in the pressure. I may try to be in the bath a bit later this time and see if that helps. I just really want to have the baby on time rather than my standard 3 weeks late AND have a less than 10 lb baby..I think those two things right there will help ALOT! My labor with Nick wasn't too bad but I was siped out after he was born- to the point that I passed out in the hall coming back to my room after my herbal bath.(a pretty much standard practice in homebirth around here...once the placenta is delivered a nice warm, soothing, herbal bath...) He was 11 lbs and someodd ounces and it just seemed to wipe me out energy wise.
My appointment is next tuesday and so far I have only gained 2 lbs this past month... I think I am 18 weeks.

Hi everyone.

I just got back from the doctor. I'm a "loose 1cm with a very soft cervix". Made a little progress. She offered to strip my membranes but my husband didn't want her to. His mother is coming in next Wednesday to look after my daughter while I have the baby. He wants to wait until she comes. We have no family here so it would be tough to keep a 9 year old with not much patience..patient during labor. LOL So I am thinking about letting her do it at my next appointment on Thursday.

All for now!

Ok here is my second try! I accidentally deleted my post before sending it.

I am very glad to hear that some people have not heard the hb till 16 weeks. The board that I lurk at (not joining till I know everything is ok for sure) almost everyone has heard the heartbeat early on. Also after coming home last evening, i went to the same board and about 5 women had to quit because their babies either died or the pregnancy was unviable. I was very worried last night, I still am worried but not as much as last night. I will ask for an ultrasound if she doesnt find the hb next apt.

As far as waterbirth, I love the idea of doing it. I have read that it is much easier on the baby too. And think of the cleanup afterwards. very little. hehe

weeze- imho, do induction for now, track your cycle and use an opk. When you find out you are expecting switch to maintenance. I know from my own experience, it only makes you a little wacko to be worying about everything before you are pregnant. Just live as though you arent, except for drinking and doing drugs, take your vitamins, and wait for it to happen. I know that for some of us, doing atkins has helped the baby making process. Good Luck!

Stephanie- Good luck with the rest of your labor. It will definitely be soon.

Hi everyone. Hope everyone is doing alright today.

As for me, I had my appointment today. It was good. My hemoglobin is low. She said that if it wasn't better by next month that she would give me supplemental vitamins. My MIL said she was surprised it was so low, being as that I have felt fine. I will definately have to get it back to normal though.

Ldybug, they make me pee in the cup every appointment. They don't check my hemoglobin every time though, so I don't know how long it's been low.

But most importantly, my ultrasound went great. The tech said the baby looked great, was measuring right, and the heart looked great. She said as far as she could tell, the baby is perfectly healthy. And as far as the sex....drumroll................

IT'S A GIRL!!! WOO HOO!!

Gotta go eat with the in-laws tonight. Bye bye!

Susan

WOE: what ever it takes
Hey Ladies!!! I'm officially back. The trip was nice but now I need a vacation from my vacation. LOL I'm just so glad to have my own bed, bath, etc....
The m/s has all but totally gone away. I still have it but it's a lot less frequent and can usually be taken care of pretty easily. Motion sickness is still a bit of a problem but I'll take it over the constant m/s anyday.
I gained way too much while we were gone. Every time I turned around the grandmothers' kept trying to feed me and they feel very offended if you don't eat what they give you. So, I'm back to low carbing and hoping that it'll level off again. I hope I hope!!
I have another visit in 4wks and they'll be doing another u/s then too. We should be able to see the sex so I'm pretty excited about that too. Although we're totally hoping for healthy baby it would be nice to have a boy this time around since we already have our little girl. I guess we'll see soon enough.
I guess that's it for now. I've gotta give the little one a bath and get her ready for bed. Take Care!!!

Dawn

Hi, I have some questions. I asked some of this a few weeks ago, but I think there might be people here who weren't there then.

How are you handling low carb and pregnancy? What carbs have you added in? What do you still avoid? Do you use Splenda? Other artificial sweeteners? About how many carbs a day do you aim at? What about a typical days menu?

I am having my 8th baby. My first two were c-sections. My last 5 were born at home. I have never had a water birth. It always sounded intriguing to me. It seemed like it should feel good. However, my experience has been that when I get in the tub during labor, my labor intensifies dramatically. At my last birth, I was dialated all the way and then my labor stopped. We were trying to get it restarted and my husband and the midwife suggested the tub. I really didn't want to (since by now this labor intensifier has bad connotations to me!), but I almost gave in because I wanted to get it over with. I put one foot up toward the tub and then said "No, I can't do it." Almost immediately my labor started again. I think I scared myself back into it!

Jeaniebear, if you are on Momys, are you also familiar with The Woodshed?

Everal,
Mom of 7, going on 8
