Coconut oil is supposed to be really good with killing off yeast I read.
So sorry, that is no fun. You've got nothing to lose right?I would try the coconut oil. Start off slow though like 1 TB and most people say work up to 3TB a day, spread througout the day.

Any drug store carries over the counter remedies for yeast infections. Monastat, etc. They aren't as good as prescription, but they sure do help! Run, don't walk to your nearest Walmart or drug store and pick one up to use.

ok just a word of advise (i read way to many labels..)
just incase you go the monistat route, always get the 3 days instead of the 1 day.. the 3 days is like 3 1 days (do you get what i mean ? there is the same dose of meds in each one of the 3 day as there is in the single 1 day) and the 3 day usually comes with the outer cream which is HEAVIN SENT! so atleast if you feel better after 1 or 2 days you can always just save the other just incase!

I really hope you feel better soon!

Sorry that you're going through that! As a frequent antibiotic-taker, I unfortunately am like the queen of yeast infections.

Did he give you a cream or Diflucan? Diflucan is an oral pill, and I find that it is the only thing that works for me. If you have a SEVERE yeast infection, you can take them as often as 1 X daily, 3 X weekly (on day 1, day 4, and day 7). By day 2 or 3, your symptoms should be about 75% gone though.

You could try something like Vagasil in the mean time because it might be soothing. Also, you might want to "air out" so that there's not constant irritation from underwear or pants on the area. Cool showers (I know, it's winter so that sucks) will be less inflaming as well. AND DON'T USE SOAP! Just rinse with cool water. After you go the bathroom, don't wipe the area, just pat dry with non-fragranced, non-colored toilet paper (but make sure it is dry totally because dampness will just irritate everything).

You should also be eating yogurt, preferably a no sugar added or plain yogurt, as the yeast feeds on sugar. Even if you're not on Atkins Induction, cut all sugar and starches out of your diet in the mean time (eat as much meat, cheese, and eggs as possible and very, very few vegetables). You can also try acidophilus from a health food store -- it promotes healthy bacteria that can keep the yeast at bay.

And of course, water to flush out your system would be good. I REALLY hope you feel better, as I know how awful they can be! I just got finished taking a dose a week ago, and I have to start up again (darn Levaquin ). I hope you feel better!!!!!

P.S. I just had a thought... are you sure that it is yeast? I don't want to be gross or anything, so I won't say it here, but definitely look up the symptoms of yeast as opposed to bacterial vaginosis (BV) or trichomoniasis (trich), which can both be painful. You can pick up all kinds of freaky things from the obgyn... Yeast infections can get really bad though if they're not adequately treated though, so it is quite possible that it is yeast.

Oil of oregano drops are an awesome fungicide which Dr A recommended for folks who had an overgrowth of yeast in the small intestines. A drop for every 8 ounces, and you can find it at SuperWalmart with the vitamins. It is a funky taste, but you start out adding a little and keep adding.

Also, acidophilus in pill form works wonders! (as DLC mentioned)

You might require nystatin if it's as bad as it sounds, though. I hope you're feeling well soon!

okay as a person whose had like a millllllion yeast infections here are my two cents:

if this is your first one you are probably willing to go the monistat route. i also suggest the 3 day to make sure it is good and gone.

if you are feeling bold, there are other natural remedies you can use - yogurt, garlic, honey.

Yogurt - i hear it is best to freeze some plain, no sugar, no flavor yogurt as a type of suppository and insert that over night - cooling and helps to restore natural yeast balance.

garlic - pop a clove up in there, you may want to attach a string somehow.

honey - apply honey directly to the infection and wait for 5 minutes before rinsing off - best done in the shower. there is slightly more discomfort with this one and it may not always work.

if you want more info you can google these and there are loads of people that swear by them.

i have tried each, except the garlic only once - it was kindof too weird even for me. if your period is about to start don't use any of the methods and wear a pad and your body will clear itself up.

sorry if this is waaaaay too much info but you did ask

I second this. Get the three day - or even the 7 day. My ob/gyn also told me it is ok to do two 7 day treatments back to back if it is really bad.

Another hint with the monistat. Get the goo in an applicator kind rather than the ovule. (Looks like a giant softgel vitamin.) My ob/gyn told me the ovule just kind of sits in one place, whereas the goo gets into all of your nooks and crannies. Sorry for the TMI!

Every dude on LCF has and will read it if you say 'Ladies ONLY'.

Get some AZO Yeast tablets. They DO work.

And do some research on Nutribiotic Grapefruit Seed Extract. I do the tablets as part of my IBS regimen for possible yeast in my digestive tract. Read up on it for systemic yeast.

I did the monstate before I called the DR. He called me in vasole 80 mg, I am on day two of that and woke up this morning still in pain... NO itching just the lower pain.

IS there any way they could have hurt my cervics??? It feels like a I was hit with a tennis ball.

If I am not better I will be going back. AND will demand answers.... I hate it when I am feeling good and exercising just to be slamed with this to the point I don't feel like doing anything.

I had such a horrible yeast infection while carrying my second daughter that I was in the L&D several times for vaginal bleeding.
They are horrible, ugh.
My sympathies to you.

I've always done well with Diflucan , and probiotics.

I've heard of the yogurt up the wazoo, but never tried it.
The garlic, well now, that's one I haven't heard before.

There is a cream and a pill you take together and that worked miracles for me. I don't typically get them but I bought it at Walgreens and it got rid of it quickly

Yeah I really don't think this sounds like a yeast infection. It does sound like an infection though. Are you running a temperature? If I were you, I'd drive to your doctor and insist that he look at you today. To see if you have an infection. Or I would insist he order a stat CBC with Diff to see if you have an infection. If you have one, then it's prolly caused by the pap. He needs to help resolve this before Tuesday.

I totally forgot about that!! That's what my mother's doctors have told her to do in the past, but I've never tried it myself. It just seems too messy and gross and like the yogurt would ferment down there. But I mean, if you're really in pain and nothing else is working and you're SURE that it is yeast, I'd say go for it!

BeThin,

Please contact your Dr. ASAP. You should not be in that much pain after a pap smear. It doesn't sound like you have a yeast infection.

I totally agree, I know that if you get perforations in certains parts of the cervix, uterus, etc..and get an infection, it can be VERY dangerous. I don't mean to scare you, but this is something you NEED to have diagnosed quickly. Don't take chances, it is just not worth it, if your DR won't see you then find one that will!! and switch DR. This is not a common result from a pap. I firmly believe that if you feel the need to see a DR immediately and they just won't work with you that you should find one that does. YOU are paying HIM, he works for you.
