Does Ketosis effect TOM / periods?

Hi,

Does anyone know if being in ketosis changes the lightness or heaviness of your period?

Or this may be TMI... or the consistency (thinner)?

I'm wondering if this change is due to ketosis or possibly perimenopause? Although I have no other symptoms of perimenopause.

Sorry, I know this isn't the most pleasant subject, but thought these ladies are the experts in this way of life / eating and if anyone would know they would!

Thank you!

Thank you.

I don't know specifically about consistency (BTW, there's no such thing as TMI in this part of the board ), but losing weight in general can affect your cycles making them longer/shorter/stronger/lighter. Seems to be different for everyone. I've heard that it has something to do with the shedding/absorption of excess estrogen which is stored in fat cells, but I'm not much of a medical person, so that's the extent of my knowledge Hopefully someone else will come in and give you better info If you're at all concerned, make sure you call your doc, he/she would know best

I had almost the same question! Since starting, my previously reliable cycle has become later & later. I'm now almost a week overdue, don't even feel like it's going to start soon and was wondering if being on induction has caused this (I peed on a stick this morning, so I'm not pregnant).

Whacky cycles - normal, not normal, normal for me...??? Inquiring minds want to know!

Mine was over 6 days late. It's always the 18th, until L/C. I'll update if it changes in anyway.

I got tired of yelling at my uterus (HURRY UP!). DH and I aren't having kids so that wasn't an issue.

Anyway, it does start, late. Don't give up. I am eager for a nice little whoosh if my body is feeling accommodating.

i'm not sure if its ketosis per se but low carb dieting affects people's hormones. when i did low carb for the first time last summer, i didn't get my period for 2 months
but i think it is pretty common for your cycle to get a bit thrown off or delayed.

Mine was perfectly on time (29 day cycle- the way it was when I was a teen), which it has not been in a loooooooong time. But amazingly it was much thinner and lighter, and quicker (4 days- usually 7 or 8).

sounds like everyone has a different reaction!

Mine is delayed. I'm still waiting for it. My last cycle was Feb 22nd. I p'd on a stick last night and it's a negative so I'm not pregnant.

That is 41 days and counting. I have been feeling my symptoms though so I know it's coming.

Also, I came off BCP in January and then got my first natural cycle on Feb 22. Maybe it's my body adjusting to not having the BCP and being on induction.

It effected mine slightly -- not badly -- but I did notice that it wasn't quite as heavy ... I seem to be back on a more consistent schedule now that I'm after a year -- I think your body also needs time to adjust to losing weight, etc. Who knows, maybe as we lose weight it also speeds up because there is no fat getting in the way to slow down the process (j/k) lol
