WOE: Making myself healthy through low carb!
Start Date: Starting over ~ 9/15/2008
I need serious advice!

Hey! My name is Brandy and in 2004-2005 I lost 120lbs! I went from 307lbs to 187lbs eating low carb. And I never felt better. Then life got in the way. I had no life when I was low carbing, and after losing the weight I met my husband and had a baby. I am now 320lbs........ I need some serious advice now. My husband and I would like to have another baby. And want to start trying in May when our insurance kicks back in. My problem is, I want this weight gone, and I know that once I start losing again I wont want to stop. I am just scared about getting stuck in this cycle all over again. But I REALLY want another baby. Help! Any and all advice would be greatly appriciated!

Hiya Brandy!

Come join us over at the Getting Healthy for Baby thread- we are all losing weight to get healthy for a baby. Most of us are currently trying- some are trying more intensely than others but we all take each month we are not pregnant as another month we are getting healthier to become pregnant.

Since you are going to wait for your insurance to kick in before trying, use the next couple months to lose some weight...

Good luck!

I'm going to lay it down for you.

It totally depends on your age!

If you are over 35...don't wait - just do it.

This might be controversial, but I am just going to lay-it-on-you.

I went from an all-time high of 480 pounds when 9 month pregnant in December 2005 to a low of 320 pounds in about September 2007. I got pregnant in June 2007 but I didn't know it until September 2007.

I am about 4 weeks away from giving birth and I am 370 pounds. I am not happy about it, and I wish it weren't so. But it is the real deal! I have had good check-ups, my BP is great, all my blood work is good. Sonograms are totally normal, I am having no pregnancy complications at all. However, my weight is such a huge issue, and getting medical-care at this weight is a total nightmare. There is not one appointment where I am not made to feel guilty and irresponsible for being so large and pregnant. I am treated (I think unnecessarrily at times) with kid gloves and subject to far more scrutiny than a thin mother.

That being said, I am 39yrs old this year. I already have a 25 month old girl and my "time" is limited to become pregnant. I only have 1 ovary and it's really a bit of a miracle that I am pregnant to begin with (period).

So...If I could do it again and I had the luxury of some more time (in regards to my age) I would wait till I was thinner. But if you are pressed by age for "time" - then consider going for it regardless of what you weigh.

Good Luck and good health.

Susan

WOE: anything that will stay down!
i'm a little late here but i agree w/ moons mom. if you over 35, jsut do it and worry about the weight later. i don't mean to pack on the lbs and worry about it later. try to stay relatively LC during pregnancy to keep the lbs off. if you've got the time then lose a few pounds first. i'm in a similar boat as you, i'm 36, have 2 kids and we want at least one more. i was LCing and doing well then whamo! i got pregnant. i wanted to lose a little more before getting pregnant but it didn't work out that way. i'm hoping to keep the weight gain to a bare minimum, then go back on LC after the baby's born. i know my baby-making time is limited so i didnt' want to take precautions against gettign pregnant, even though i really wanted to get healthier first. didn't work out that way though.
