Anyone having success with progesterone?
Yesterday I read the book What your Doctor may not Tell You about Menopause by John R. Lee, M.S.. He gives a convincing argument for natural progesterone as the answer to many midlife symptoms.
He says most of us experience estrogen-dominance symptoms even well in to menopause partly because of our American diet, which has hormone-laden meats. Progesterone opposes estrogen, and gives relief for many estrogen-dominance symptoms. I'm going to try it. If you've tried/take it, what brand and how much do you use? What do you think of it? ~beckyh |

re progesterone
hi there! i read that same stuff... not that book but things about it. i'm only 40 but thought i was entering perimenopause and stuff.... in the end, i just got an otc cream which did seem to help with some mood swings and pms. i think it's pretty harmless and haven't read about harmful side effects. however, i would advise just getting your hormones checked to be sure that's gonna help because if you have a true hormone (progesterone or anything else) deficiency you can get better, for instance, progesterone prescribed that is stronger. i wouldn't go the whole estrogen, etc., hrt route, myself, but progesterone, yeah, probably.... good luck with it!
p.s. i started vitex as i'm ttc and the cream wasn't really gonna cut it. my luteal phase was getting a little shorter and i needed more. but i'll keep the cream for later! it is supposed to "nourish" pregnancy (the placenta, the baby) as well. ![]() |

I would love to get a baseline hormone check, but I haven't found an endo doc yet who will do it for me. The last one I saw said, "If you're cycling, your hormones are fine."
So for now, I'm trying the progesterone-- in week 3. It has already helped with bloating and moods. I hope it relieves my horrible cramping. |

Have your read either of John C. Lee, M.D.'s books-- What your doctor may not have told you about Premenopause/Menopause? He is a strong advocate of a progesterone supplementation.
So far, I am pleased with my progesterone cream. I completed my first cycle with it and found PMS to be greatly reduced, and I had no migraines, which is remarkable. Cramping was still severe, however. I had to take Advil a few times. I think it is progress, time will tell. Best of luck to you! |
