Ketosis and PMS

Hi, all-

I have been in ketosis since January 1st, and have loved the appetite suppression effect. I hardly think about food-- most of the time.

Then 3 days before my TOM this time (and probably every time, I just never paid as much attention before) it's like a food addiction switch is turned on in my head! All I can think about is cream, butter, popcorn...low carb, high, carb, any carb foods... Ugh! I haven't had a chocolate craving since I started this over 30 days ago, (that is huge for me-- a former chocoholic) but have been wanting my ol' Dove chocolates.

I decided to ride out these feelings like ocean waves, instead of going on a binge. It wasn't easy. I've hardly lost any weight since I started Atkins, and the last thing I need is more weight. Stomach hunger decreased for those days, and that confused me even more. I really tried to pay attention to it rather than head hunger.

I truly believe the appetite suppression was still there somewhere, since most of my cravings were for fats. I'm sure I overdid it on cream yesterday (maybe extra calories are ok during TOMs?). But I managed to remember that head hunger isn't stomach hunger, and all the food in the world wouldn't satisfy head hunger.

These hormones, I realize, are nothing to mess with! PMS is very real, and unrestrained can really blow a person's progress--monthly. I don't know what the answer is except maybe to watch the calendar and brace myself (and take care of myself) for those three days when my head is wanting what my body doesn't need. I feel better today (I'll trade cramps for PMS any day!).

WOE: low carb
I totally understand and wish there were a few days in the month where we are totally excused from what we say and do(seriously it is hard to control your hormones), during that time of the month I get mood swings which lead to comfort food, my last time was really good so I will have to see if this time affects me as much during lowcarb.Oh I do believe woman do have to suffer more then men during weightloss because of the monthly hormones, but I am hopeing low carb will ease these symptoms in some way.
