Birth control pills that don't make you gain weight?

This is really a spinoff of the "Have you ever been thin" thread. Thin chicks turning fat...this worries me.

One of my thin nieces is going on the pill.

I'm extremely worried, because the women in my family are very thin children and teens, but we blow up to obese proportions in adulthood. None of us are especially big eaters, and I'm only saying that because I think this indicates something metabolically.

We all experienced substantial weight gain on the pill.

Does anyone have personal experience they could share as to what pills are best? Is there anything else that works besides the pill for a young lady who has never had a baby? I'm old, and out of the loop.

TIA

The lower-dose pills seem to carry fewer side effects, but everyone is different, so it's really a lot of trial and error. I'm on Loestrin-24 and haven't experienced any weight gain, but one of my good friends immediately put on 7 pounds with the same pill and cannot get it off.

I think she should tell her doctor that she is afraid of weight gain and maybe he/she will be able to better determine which pill to put her on.

I've never gained from my bc pills. I've taken the same pill for over 20years and during that time it has never affected my weight.

I think PILLS are far less likely to cause weight gain. I did some research and all of the articles I've read found that going off the pill will cause a 1-2lb weight loss. Hardly seems worth it to me!

I think some of the other birth control methods like the Depo shot are more likely and notorious for causing weight gain.

Especially since going off it might cause a 40 lb weight gain with only a 7 lb 2 ounce loss!

When I started taking Ortho Trycyclen is when I started having weight problems - I gained a lot and quickly. I am currently on Loestrin (I think) and have actually lost a few pounds, but I started taking Metformin at the same time.
