Why does menopause cause weight gain?

Is it something inherit to the biochemical process of menopause, or is it just cause when we age, our metabolism slows and we stop exercising, etc.

Long story short: I have a rare genetic mutation and have to get my ovaries removed at about age 30, pushing me into menopause. ;(
will that make me gain a lot of weight?

It all depends on you, I think..Dr. Barry Groves recommend women be at their
optimal weight BEFORE menopause because if you are chubby entering the 'pause, it is much harder to get off..

Most of us Goldies have a harder time than the young ones..YOU DO have age on your side and that can make a big difference..

I had a partial hysterectomy in January. Initially I lost weight, (I was pretty fragile), but lately I feel out of control. Just returned to low carb and I've lost a little, but... gack!

Sarah: I went through menopause early (age 45) for a number of reasons. The whole time I was losing weight I was in peri-menopause, and during maintenance I have been in full-blown meno - hopefully almost done now. It has made maintenance challenging, but exercise really, really helps. If there's one thing I would recommend to anyone who is dealing with menopause it's you must exercise regularly. Not only will it help with weight loss/maintenance, but it will also help with the insomnia and mood swings. It helps you keep your muscle and bone density, which is really important as you go through menopause. Hang in there! You can lose weight in menopause.
