TOM late!

Hi Ladies!

I used to post here a couple years ago and due to carb creep and weight gain I find myself on induction once again and am having some issues.

First, my husband and I are TTC and my period is two days late (im pretty regular).

My missed period is also coinciding with my starting induction a week and a half ago and losing 4 lbs pretty fast.

My question is if any of you have been late before while on induction or losing a lot of weight fast?

I can't get a real accurate preg test for a couple more days and Im going nuts here!

Your responses are much appreciated!

Estrogen is stored in fat and when rapidly losing weight this estrogen is released into the bloodstream. Those who are sensitive to estrogen might have changes in TOM, breakouts, moodiness etc. Also you are more fertile at this time so take proper precautions.

actually, the pregnancy tests these days are highly accurate a week before your missed period. If you're already late, go get an early detection test. It measures even the slightest bit of HCG (pregnancy hormone) in urine very quickly and accurately.

But to answer your question, my periods did become irregular for a while when I first started to lose significant weight during induction.

Fingers crossed for the results you want.

Got an early pregnancy test and...

Per this test I am preganant!

Very happy but a little scared (this will be my first). Is it still okay to remain on Atkins?

Would love to hear some of your experiences for all you soon to be or new moms.

Thanks!

Congrats!!

You'll want to move up to the maintenance phase of Atkins, but there's no reason you can't eat healthy for your pregnancy. Being in Ketosis is not recommended, but I don't know why. My doctor just said to make sure I'm not in ketosis during pregnancy.

First of all... CONGRATULATIONS!

I'm also pregnant with my first... four months in and starting to see the expected slight weight gain.

I'll share with you what my dietician shared with me about low-carbing while pregnant. First, you want to ensure you are getting enough fiber in your diet or else you'll run into... uhm... nasty digestive issues. Secondly, it is not recommended to go on a strict low-carb diet like Atkins induction phase since there are specific nutrients in grain that are beneficial (needed?) for the baby's development... one specifically mentioned to me was folic acid. So, like previously mentioned, my dietician reccomended I follow the maintenance phase, and try to encorporate in some high fiber whole grain foods, as well as fruit and dairy.

As a side, your body will start telling you what it wants/needs soon enough... trust me! (Though I still haven't figured out why my body was craving cheesecake... and no, I didn't give in! LOL!) Have fun with it, and enjoy every new discovery and change as things progress... and I'll keep my fingers crossed that you avoid morning sickness!

Once again, congrats!

Debbie
