oily discharge from breasts
about 3 months ago I noticed that there were stains in my bra at night. Is this a sign of something wrong or is it hormonal? I t has been over 19 years since I gave birth and then didn't produce any milk! I am having a mamogram May 1st, but I am a little worried.

I've never been in your situation, but you need to call your doctor TODAY. Any discharge from the breast (unless you are pregnant or nursing) is a very possible sign of breast cancer. You need to take this very seriously and call your doctor NOW.

Your appt is today so I am curious to know how it goes. Don't freak out just yet. I have had a dark brown discharge (very little) for about 5 years and have addressed it yearly at my exams. I have had mammograms and ultrasounds - I am fine. It is not as uncommon as you think. My aunt has a similar experience and also has seen a Dr. It is something to be concerned about so don't dismiss it but don't worry yourself sick.

Six years ago I started noticing a brownish, and sometimes clearish coloured discharge from my nipples also. I scared the heck out of me. Mostly from the left breast - so much so that I had to put a bandaid over the nipple to prevent it from coming through on my blouses. I finally went to a breast specialist a few months later and she tested it and said it had to do with the glands in my breasts. Apparently the breast glands can sometimes overproduce these secretions and cause this type of discharge. My left breast apparently has more glands than my right breast. I asked her what I could do about it and she said not much other than to put up with its annoyances. I was relieved that it wasn't anything any more serious than that. To this day the problem is still there and yes, it is annoying, but at least I know what it is.
So in your case I would try not to worry too much until you see your doctor. Good luck with it and let us know how it goes. |
