coconut oil use for the skin?
Does anyone know how coconut oil best works for skin conditioning? DD has dry skin and some breaking out on her back (just like her father) and wondering if it would be best to try and get some into her internally, use it externally, or both?
Anyone got opinions on this? |

Thanks for asking this Karen. I was curious about this as well. I get a breakout of acne sometimes and was wondering if I could just eat the oil or if I had to smear it on my skin or whatever
Also can someone tell me if it's OK to store it in the fridge? My landlord keeps my apt. deathly hot and my whole jar has melted! I don't want to put it in there if it will harm the oil in any way. |

I think if you just eat it, it helps to clear up the skin. I know mine has gotten better since I started using it. Also, in the winter when I have to wear long sleeves, the skin of my elbows gets dry and scaly and catches the cloth of the sleeve. It's strangely painful. Well, that has stopped happening, too. Also, you could keep the coconut oil in the fridge, but it is not necessary. It is fine in its melted state as well. Mine gets that way in the summer. Makes it easier to work with as far as I am concerned.

hi fellow coco oil eaters,
I don't think it affects the shelf life. If I haven't had it in awhile sometimes I notice an outbreak (small, I mean no biggy) when I start taking it again. Then it goes away. Thinks may get a little worse before it gets better. How much do you guys take? |

Karen,
I am not able to take the coconut oil internally. As it speeds up my metabolism, my bp goes up some. I do use it externally. It has really helped my skin, and it is not greasy. It rubs in. I use it all over my body as I have some issues with psoriasis. Try it and see how you like it. By the way, my sister stopped all her expensive night creams and says the coconut oil works better than all of them. Pris |

I got rid of all my lotions when I started using coconut oil as a moisturizer. I love it!
It does not need to be refrigerated if it's liquid. It is a very stable oil. |

Just makes it really tough to spoon it out. That is why I have been putting in coffee or tea. I have been doing chamomile at night with a touch of Davinci French vanilla syrup and coconut. I like it........ |

thanks to yellowbrix post awhile back
to you yellowbrix.. i have been using co on my face. i actually bought it to ingest, but havent done so yet.i dont know that i can afford to take the 3 tablespoons suggested...for 2 weeks i have been smearing it on my face(very small amt.) at night before bed. it goes on very greasy but blends right into the skin..my skin is now very soft and not dry like it was(winter dryness). i had a white "pimple" near my nose for 2 months 2 days ago i noticed it is gone..i really dont know what it was it was not like a normal acne pimple but i am very happy it is gone.. |

My oldest daughter (15, almost 16) started using CO on her skin right out of the shower ... she is very acne prone ... and she loves it. We have all noticed how soft her skin is, and how much it has helped her trouble areas, too. She has influenced a lot of her girlfriends to try it for themselves. I, on the other hand, cannot use CO directly on the skin ... I still OP with it and ingest it, but the CO dries my "older" skin out ...

Oh, I forgot one more thing ...
I once heard someone say, "never put anything on your skin that you cannot/will not put in your mouth." As soon as I changed my thinking, and started following that healthy/natural advice ... my tired, volatile skin has evolved into something beautiful again. I use all natural products now ... all kinds of different concoctions I make myself ... with eggs, fruit, honey, different oils, coffee grains & wheat germ (for exfoliating), yogurt, apple cider vinegar (for astringent), strawberries, etc ... For instance, I make a paste out of strawberries & apple cider vinegar ... make enough to "can" it in jars ... scrub my skin with it, rinse it off, and then pat some on to dry ... there's just one example. Just an extra thought to ponder. ![]() (Food for thought ... hehe) ![]() |

i use it on my dry ( formerly dry skin ) every nite. its great! my daughter was starting to get dry patches on her face and legs that were not going away, no matter what she tried. i had her try the co and it worked like a charm. i don't know what it would do for oily skin, but for dry lips and skin its great. i have a couple of little containers of it around the house, nite stand, bath and i keep the rest in the fridge....

I learned my lesson -- went for a couple of days without using it as a moisturizer and only one tablespoon in the AM, and promptly got a pimple in that same area on my chin. As soon as I saw it, I was slapping for forehead for my laziness -- restarted eating it and putting it on my skin, and in two days the pimple was gone. So I won't mess up again. My jar was about $9 locally, and lasts about 2-ish weeks. So basically, it's the same as a co-pay for a prescription acne med, and I like it way better!! This morning I was in a hurry and couldn't put my hands on the refined CO, so used the virgin for my omelette along with Swiss cheese. Oddly enough, the Swiss/coconut blend was pretty good! |

Another excellent "for your face" moisturizer is Jojoba oil, Emu oil, & Extra Virgin Olive Oil, all claim that will not clog pores and will also help to elminate acne, don't have acne so not sure on that, but I can say for sure I love the Jojoba for my face, awesom stuff, just make sure the 100% pure

Hello everyone. I am really interested in natural products (my parents were/are health food junkies). I would like to know how you "take" the coconut oil. Do you just eat a tablespoon or mix it with other food? I don't drink coffee so that is not an option. I am also going try it on my skin and then my 3 yo.'s cheeks. His face has been really dry this winter.
Thanks for any more info. |

In India coconut oil (especially Parachute brand) is used by many people for their scalp. Only a tad is needed. I've seen my husband's relatives put a small amount in a tiny stainless steel bowl, then gradually daub it on with their fingers. It conditions the scalp, makes hair stronger, and also acts as a cooling agent.
In hot countries coconut oil is always kept outside of the fridge. It is only coconut water and milk that will spoil. Be careful when eating coconut oil or fatty young coconut, though. Make sure that you are not cheating and carbing up as well as taking coconut, as coconut is very concentrated in fat. You won't be benefitting yourself by harming your heart- so make sure to use it only if you are following low carb. Farasha |

I have been doing hot tea, and the coconut oil works very well in it, as well as coffee.
Haven't found a low carb hot chocolate yet. Maybe have to create one using cream instead of milk. That would work............... Coconut in hot chocolate would be really good!!! |
