Off topic - what age is too old?

To get pregnant! I will be 37 and we are planning on going for #2. Do you think that is unsafe or too old to get pregnant? Just wondering what others think about age and having babies.

Have a great day!

Well, I've not had kids, but I think you can be fine. I work in Medical records, and I see people in their 40's having children. Docs consider 35 and older as "advanced maternal age" and they will run extra ultrasounds and stuff on you, but if you keep your body healthy and keep up with docs advice you will be fine. Also, my aunt had a baby at 42, 10 years after her first and she had no complications that I knew of.

Just my .02 cents, but I'm sure you'd rather hear from real mommies!

I don't believe at your age having a baby is anything but beautiful. If this is your wish, then may it come true for you and your family.

I think 60 is too old. 37? heck no!!! A long as your doctor says you are good, go for it! At the rate I'm going I won't even have ONE till I'm 37!

I sat at Bunco last night with my girlfriend who is having her second child at 39. She looks awesome and is due to have a healthy and normal baby girl in 6 weeks.

Sure, there are some risks that are higher when you're a bit older, but bigger regrets in life are usually the product of not taking a chance on your heart's desire. So many women are waiting to start a family, and having babies later in life - you certainly won't be the only woman in her 40's at kindergarten orientation!

I think this is a very personal decision. I decided after 2 kids that 35 was my break point.

I had mine at 20, 26, and 34. I did great weight wise for the first 2, gaining 25 lbs each time. It was easy to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight after that. For some reason I did not even try to keep my weight in a good range for my third. I gained 50 lbs. My doc kept saying that I would never be able to get rid of the extra weight I was gaining. He was pretty much right. It's like the new weight became my set point and I've struggled ever since to get back to the weight I always was before my third child. I can get there but don't STAY there.

I know you didn't ask this but I just wanted to throw in a little motivation by sharing my own cautionary tale.

Good luck and enjoy!!

I am 39 years old and had my first baby at 31 and my second at 35. They are both just as gorgeous and healthy as they can be!

Oh, and p.s....their Dad is 63 right now!!! (Don't ask me what I was thinking on that one)! LOL!

Thanks for the feedback. I don't want to have any regrets by not having a 2nd baby so I think we need to just go for it. My husband is 39!

I don't think you're too old... At our 20th HS reunion 2 friends had just had babies, others were already grandmothers! And at the 25th class reunion, another friend had just had her 2nd child...

My mom had me at 30 and my twin brothers at 35. We were all healthy. I don't think 37 is too old. Like others have said, there are plenty of instances of women over 40 bringing healthy children into the world. If you want it, go for it!

You may find it more difficult to conceive than you did before. That is natural. You probably also want to ask your doctor about any potential health risks for you or the baby to have him or her screen for that.

Keep yourself in good shape if you do decide to have another child for the sake of you and the baby.

I don't think 37 is too old at all. I'm due with #2 in April and I'll be 35. I know lots of women like me who are having kids at "older" ages, either because of marrying later or waiting to have kids.

I say if you want another baby then go for it! Talk to your doc if you feel more comfortable with that first. There are more issues with fertility as you age, so it might take time to conceive. And because of "advanced maternal age" they will talk to you more about birth defects and all that goes along with it like amnio, etc. But you can have a completely healthy, safe, and happy pregnancy at 37 and beyond.

And don't let that advanced maternal age thing scare you off or make you feel old. They said the same to me because I will be 35 when I deliver. And I don't see 35 as "advanced"

Good luck to ya!

My sister is pregnant with her fist. She is 41 and just entered her 2nd trimester.
They do watch her closely, labelling her high risk due to her age, but so far everything is just fine!

If you want another child go for it !

LOL...maybe this will help. I just went for a consult about doing IVF (In Vitro) to concieve my 4th. I will be 35 in October. The nurse was quite a bit older than me and she was so sweet. She kept saying, "Oh, honey, you're young and healthy, you're in good shape...you'll be fine!" Then the doc came is...she was MAYBE 29. lol She said, "Well, at your age, there are some risks...etc" Haha

It's all about perspective. We know ourselves better than anyone. I fell much helathier and safer abotu being pregnant now than I did when I weighed 300 pounds.

Hey there!

Just had my first in May. I was 37 and I just wasn't ready until then. He is healthy and beautiful.

I *think* my pregnancy may have been a bit more uncomfortable because of my age. My 20something friends didn't seem to have as many complaints...but maybe that's just me!!

Bottom line: Go for it!! Absolutely worth it!!
