Anyone gotten pregnant over 40 naturally?
I'm not asking for myself, I'm through with that. My best friend wants to start trying in a couple of months, she will be 41 1/2 then. I had heard that after 35 your fertility goes down exponetially and by 42 it's almost impossible to concieve naturally. So have any of you or anyone you know gotten pregnant without fertility drugs or in vitro after age 40? She has no kids and knows her time is running out but because she very fit she thinks she has more time than I think nature will allow. I hope I'm wrong so that's why I'm asking. Thanks

My grandmother had her last child at 48 yrs. old. Keep in mind, that child (my aunt) will be 47 yrs. old this year. Back in the 60's, this was unheard of. My grandmother didn't think she could get prego anymore (menopause) .. but surprise, surprise .. guess there was one egg hiding out somewhere. My mother was 26 when her baby sister was born .. lol .. lots of people thought the baby was my mom's.
So I guess the answer is yes, I believe it is completely possible to get prego without help after 40. Is it recommended, probably not, but definitely possible.

Definitely!
Both my paternal and maternal grandmothers had children over 40....my Mom's mom had her at 42 and still had another son, my uncle, at 45! Needless to say this was in the 1950's and all natural!
If your friend is healthy she probably can, though it may take some time. My OB told me when I was trying to conceive my 2nd (I am 35) that at my age I have a 15% chance to conceive each month when I was wondering why it was taking so long this time around, but 8 months later we finally did conceive....I imagine at 40+ the percentage may be lower, but still doable! Good luck to your friend....baby dust her way! ![]() |

I had my first baby at the age of 39 and the last of my three boys at the age of 43. All natural (though I have to say that at 39 I was thinking that I would die childless)....But after the first one the others were pretty quick...current ages of my kids 6, 3 and 2. All boys.
