Endometrial Ablation

Good morning all:

I had an endometrial ablation yesterday and, so far, so good. I feel great. I would appreciate hearing other's experiences with this procedure.

Thanks.

Thanks Kat for responding. I feel the same way, especially when I am the author!!

Endometrial Ablation is a procedure which removes the lining of the uterus, usually done b/c of excessive menstration.

No, just heavy painful periods. Dr. said that since I did not want any more children (two teenagers) this was an option. I researched it, asked around, heard great things, so I went for it. Am resting now, back to work next week.

so far so good, just looking for more experiences.....good or bad.

My mom had this done last year. She decided on the ablation over a hysterectomy (she had had extremely heavy bleeding for quite some time and just wanted it to end) because she had been told that the recovery time for the ablation was shorter than with a hysterectomy. She had a very difficult time with the recovery - she was in bed for a week barely able to move and then was still very sore for weeks afterward. I'm glad to hear that you seem to be recovering better.

I had this done Dec. 19. I also had a tubal done at the same time. The only discomfort I had was due to the tubal, it was laparoscopic and they went in through my belly button, which was sore for a week or 2. I'm hoping I'm one of the lucky ones who don't get visits from TOM anymore!

ETA: I had it done on a Tuesday and went back to work on Thursday. I wish I had taken the rest of the week off, just because of the belly button.

I got my insurance EOB today, the entire procedue cost $19,744.99 , and insurance paid $8,883.81 (their negotiated rate).

I had one two years ago and it was the best thing i have done for myself.. i too had heavy periods.. i did not have any problems at all.. and now i spot maybe two days..and that is it...
i still suffer PMS and minor cramps but hardly no bleeding at all...

I wish they could invent something easy as the ablation was for PMS..

I had it done a few years back for heavy irregular periods. It did not work for me--- I wasn't one of the fortunate ones. Ended up having a hysterectomy a year ago. Several of my friends have had the ablation and it has been wonderful for them. I hope it works out for you. It turns out I had adenomyosis, and that's a condition that the regular ablation does not work on. My surgeon should have used the microwave technology.....

Nepa, I hope you had a smooth recovery! Which type of ablation did you have? I'm considering having it done... The Novasure method looks to have the least amount of risks.

I just wanted to check in to say that TOM didn't go away for me he showed up right on time, though it was the first normal one I've had in a year and a half.

Sorry to hear that, Allison.

At this point though, I'd settle for normal... Anything would be better than hemorrhaging like I do now.

I had one last March

The first day home from the hospital was horrendous - the pain meds didn't work for me.
I have had a pretty good year overall - some bleeding, but nothing compared to the hemorraging I was experiencing. I had no quality of life, and was completely miserable. Now, whatever bleeding I do have, is managable.

I wish I was in the small group of women who never bleed again, but that's not my expereince.

I had the Thermachoice Balloon method.

Hi: I finally had a chance to check in and was pleased to see responses. I had my EA on Jan. 11th and all is well. My period was due the end of January and it came and lasted about six hours.........yes, six hours. I was so disappointed when it showed, came as a small gush (Sorry if TMI) but was gone that quickly. No painful cramping, no heavy flow, none of the associated 'stuff' I had been suffering with. Recovery went well. Done on a Thursday, that afternoon was painful, but after that, it was a breeze. Back to work on Tuesday, Wednesday felt a bit tired and sore, like I had been doing too much, but doctor said all is well, healing nicely, back to see him in three months with my 'period diary'.

I would do it again in a minute. Just hope that the periods continue to be so short or not at all. It is great.

I think I had the rollerball method (think that is what it is called, not sure) I know it was with electric current to burn the lining..........

I recommend the procedure highly!!
