Ok, first I want to say a great big THANKS to Luna for keeping this thread going the past several months. You have done an awesome job! I know that you are a busy momma and we shouldn't expect you to keep up on this thread anymore, but I wanted to say that I really appreciate that you did.

I really don't want to see this thread die, but have been hestant to start it myself due to the flack I received the last time I did. I hope that the controversy has died so I decided after waiting a week to go ahead and start this thread to keep it going. You'll also noticed that I changed the list a bit, soley for the purpose of simplifying things so that other people don't feel overwhelmed to try and update the list in the future. The only names I removed where those who had their baby over 3 months ago....so now we have a "trimester" or quarter of women who have had their babies, the first trimester gals, the second trimester of gals, and the third trimester of gals. That's the way the list was the last time I was pregnant, so I don't want any flames for removing names.....the list was simply getting too long IMO.

Ok, now that I'm done explaining myself on to happy pregnancy chat.

I went to my midwife appointment yesterday and all was well. I've gotten a much better handle on my eating and gained less than a pound a week since the last time and my midwife didn't even mention my GTT results that I barely passed. *whew* I am feeling really good too this past week.

I think that my nesting is starting now. And it is going to have to as we had someone at work that will be quiting at the end of the month so there will be a lot of overtime to cover my last 6 weeks before my due date. I thought I'd better put in my fair share before I add to the overtime burden when I go out on my maternity leave and we could use the extra money too, but I won't have many days off to get ready for the baby!

Not much else going on these days. Work has been slow, so I've been catching up on reading my birthing and breastfeeding books. Some days I can't believe how close it is getting, but other days it still feels like an eternity away! Signs that fall is coming is making it seem more real though. I am sooooo ready not to be pregnant anymore, LOL!

Ames - Thanks for starting up the thread and for adding me to the expectant mom list I'm just really happy to see the thread because I think it is a great support for pregnant women...there is a lot of good info we can share!

Sounds like you'll be pretty busy with work if you are going to put in some overtime.

Do any of you ladies have thyroid issues or take thyroid meds while pregnant? I'm being monitored due to a thyroid problem and I guess they will be checking my hormone levels every 4 weeks or so. It's just one more thing to worry about I guess. I'm not having many hypothyroid symptoms...just a few that could be pregnancy related...but it's still worrisome. I still have a few weeks until I go see my ob so for now it's just the Endocrinologist.

Hello to everyone else!

I think it is great you decided to keep this going I read it everyday. Epi, I have taken thyroid meds my whole pregnancy. I have never even given them a second thought because I know how important it is for proper thyroid function while pregnant. I was on 75 mcg and they upped it to 100 mcg because of the baby. So if you have to go on meds dont worry it is better for both of you.

Krisiee - Thanks for your input on the thyroid meds! I know that my thyroid hormone is essential for the proper development of the baby so if I need meds then I wouldn't hesitate to do it. I guess it is just the testing and waiting and all that. I'm still hoping that the results come back normal and I don't have to start that.

See...this thread is just full of useful information

Hi all,

Happy to see my name on the list Stil waiting for my second appointment next Thursday. Doing good riding my bike. But it will be kind of tough scheduling it in. My daughter stared Kindergarten(sp?) this week, other daughter is starting preschool in 2 weeks. Hope everyone is doing well. I don't have any thyroid problems, so I don't have any advice. Have a good day

May I whine a little bit? I'm 33 and a half weeks now. I feel like someone has repeatedly hit me in the crotch with a baseball bat. I can't stop scratching myself on some days. My doctor diagnosed me with Cholestasis of Pregnancy, which if you look that up, is no fun at all. This has lead to some fairly big bouts of freaking out, as it has some potentially harmful (fatal) side effects and my doctor doesn't seem to take them seriously. And the hormones are still running wild and I got into a big argument with my mother yesterday on the phone and I was bawling, I'm sure that looked attractive to my husband.

45 more days...

Hello girls!

Hope everyone is feeling ok these days.... although some of us have it worse than others it seems... so sorry to hear of your woes Hazelsmurf. That doesn't sound fun at all...

I guess I'm feeling alright... not good, but better than a few weeks ago. I actually barfed yesterday morning and almost did this AM, when all my "morning sickness" has been at night... weird. My nights are getting a *little* better. Where's my energy and sex drive and feeling good??? Anyone seen it?

I gained 2 more pounds this week and I think they're staying... That puts my total at 6 pounds but it feels (and looks) like 60.

Well, enough complaining... hope everyone has a good weekend!

Julie - Did you have blood tests done by your doctor to get the diagnosis of cholestasis? Or is that just the diagnosis you were given based on the itching? I think there is a serum bile acid test and a liver function test that they do to actually diagnose. If you have had them done and your doctor isn't concerned might I suggest a second opinion? I mean with some of the possible serious problems that can occur I would be finding a doctor to treat me if I had that condition. There can be detrimental effects on the baby. Which I'm sure you know because you said you were freaking out. Did your doctor give you anything for the itching?

I hope you feel better.

No and that's what freaks me out. It sort of went like this.

Me - Oh by the way, I've been itching alot lately, all over my body.
Doc - Oh really.
Me - Yeah, and I don't seem to have a rash anywhere either, unless you count these 4 or 5 isolated little red dots a rash.
Doc - (Lifts my shirt) You have something called Cholestasis of Pregnancy
Me - ...
Doc - Here is a prescription for Cholestramine

Seriously, he didn't even ask for a blood test, which is why I sort of don't trust it. He did prescribe an ultrasound that I'm getting next week to check the placenta. And that medicine he prescribed me, turns out it's not even all that useful for this condition if that is indeed what it is! He did say that if I itch more than 3 days in a row to go to the emergency room. I told my husband if I itch more than 24 hours in a row I'm going and I'll just tell them I've been itching for 3 days cause geez, I'm 33 weeks 4 days, and everything I've read online says that I should be delivering at 36 or 37 weeks if I do indeed have this condition, and my doctor isn't even seeing me again until i'm 35 and a half weeks!

*deep breath*

AAAAAAAAAARGH.

When I saw the medicine he prescribed it surprised me, working as a pharmacy tech in the hospital we have never given it out for use in this condition. So I looked it up and found this
"There are conflicting views on using the medication Cholestyramine for treatment of Cholestasis. In the past, this medication was readily used to treat this condition, but some studies have shown that Cholestyramine may not be as effective as other treatments and potentially has some adverse side effects such as blocking essential vitamins like Vitamin K. (A vitamin that is already deficient in women with Cholestasis.)".
I would get a second opinion. There is also a whole bunch of info on the internet about it. Feel better

Julie - I see why your frustration is mounting with your doc Okay, so there were no blood tests, so I don't know if I would believe the diagnosis like you said. Second, I wouldn't take that medication without knowing for certain what condition I had. And third, you are right that if you do indeed have it then you need more monitoring than you are getting. If you are itching I would just go to the ER and tell them it is ongoing and let them see if they will do a blood test or anything to see if you can get a definitive diagnosis. Either that or find a 2nd opinion pronto!! From what I understand this can be a serious problem, but it's fairly "uncommon" so a lot of docs don't know much about it or they still think it is a benign condition. I wish I could offer you some help.

Kaiser - Sorry to hear your morning sickness is swapping times of day for ya. I'm sure your energy and feeling good and sex drive will show up one of these days. Just hang in until the worst passes

Okay for all you second time or more preggos...when did you really start to show with your second pregnancies? I'm just wondering how much time I have until people will start to notice. We haven't told anyone about the baby yet and won't for a few weeks so I want to make sure my body doesn't give up my secret just yet

Krisiee, that's what I found too. I found a website (itchymoms.com) that listed some medication as being used and my medication as no longer being considered efficient for this.

/sigh.

My problem is that I'm not always itchy. Today I'm absolutely fine, no itch at all, haven't itched in days. It comes on suddenly, and within 5 minutes I'm a wreck and scratching myself and whimpering. And just as suddenly as it arrives, it leaves. It can be 5 hours later, or it can be 12 hours, I don't know. I tell myself that if I itch more than 24 hours in a row I will go to the emergency room.

What I haven't managed to find any information on is if the people who typically suffer from this itch 24 hours a day every day or if it comes and goes like mine.

Hey everyone. I found out that I am pregnant last Thursday and possibly due April 17th. I am about 7 weeks I think.

I thought I'd join you guys to keep me accountable with my food and exercise. I have gained 2 pounds, 149 this morning. Exercise I am walking 30 minutes a day, doing prenatal yoga and can if I want to take a preg water aerobics class.

So far - no morning (or evening) sickness but I have had some naseau. I've been lucky so far.

Sorry Julie - sounds miserable!

Well today I finally ventured out of the house which is a rare occasion at this point. I am just too miserable and when I walk too much I am in a lot of pain. I hate the maternity store with all their final sales on everything. I was looking for a nursing bra. Who else sells nursing bras and what size should i get and what kind? At least going to babies r us gives me some relief to see other preggos like me, just barely enough energy to get through the store. I am sorry if I am negative tonight, I have 5 weeks left and my husband keeps going out to sea. I am just hoping/praying I go back to me after. Please tell me you do

It takes awhile. Kyle is 7mo now and I'm starting to feel kinda like me again- except a new "mommy" me- nothing is ever the same- but one smile from him and I want nothing to be as it was before

I'll be honest though- it gets worse before it gets better. Just keep your focus on your happy happy blessing! Before you know it they will be climbing up the stairs (happend this weekend!) and you won't even remember the pain of how he/she got here.

Krisiee - JcPenney sells nursing bras if you would prefer a dept store to a maternity store. And usually the saleswomen are pretty helpful with the styles and sizes. You might want to give it a try. And I think you could order online if you don't want to venture out.

Kaiser - You are right in that things will never be the same again. But different isn't necessarily bad...just different. And you'll have your baby so that will be great But as Tarrah said, it can take awhile to get back to yourself. I mean right after delivery you'll be tired and hormonal and all that, but eventually you get back to you.

Bomen - Congrats! You and I are close with our pregnancies. My tentative due date is May 1. But I'm pretty sure it's accurate since we were TTC and I know when I ovulated. I haven't had morning sickness either...and my Endocrinologist said that if it is gonna show up it usually does by 6 weeks. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Take care.

Hi ladies! I was wondering if I can join you. I am 4 months pregnant, just started week 17 yesterday. Im doing not so great on my eating plan. I crave chef boyardee spag and meatballs! WTH? Anyway, since I am overweight, I am trying to keep the weight to a minimum. I have gained 5 pounds so far, and I just went back to the gym in the mornings.. (I had some small bleeding scares, so I was taking it really easy). Anyway, I want to be healthy and I know that exercising is best for Mom giving birth.

So here I am.

I am due February 18.

Oh, and we go on October 6th for the big sono, and hopefully we will know the sex.

Congrats on the pregnancy Chrystee! Also thanks for the advice Epi. Question did anyone fear that maybe the sex, based on the ultrasound, was wrong? I keep going through the stuff my mom and my MIL have sent me and I am afraid to wash it. I keep thinks what if it turns out to be a boy then I have to bring back all the pink clothing, which happens to be a lot. The grandparents went a lil overboard with the pink. I know I am just being silly but I quess thats what happens when you have 5 weeks to go. BTW Chrystee take it easy, we all know it is hard to lose weight but we can always do it after the baby. Make sure you check with the dr about exercising if you have bleeding.

Thanks krisiee, yes, I am fine now. She thinks the early bleeding was just the period trying to start. She said that the body thinks the pregnancy is unnatural, so its trying to get rid of it at first. So now I am just doing a much, much easier exercising than I used to do.

Since the NP I saw at 11 weeks thought I had a very high risk of having gestational, I have been trying to get some information on the GD diet, and I am trying to get onto it. I want to get it under control now, if I do have it.

Oh, so everyone knows, we did finally conceive after the first clomid dose.
Well, we weren't preventing for the past 5 years, and I did take clomid once a few years ago, but Dh just wasn't ready, and I didn't want to get pregnant and him be upset. So I waited, until December of last year, he said he thought he wants to have a baby (his brother had one last year). So I said OK! Then the soonest I could get into my GYN was in May, so I started charting in January, and saw my primary to start getting provera to get my period going (I have pcos and was finally diagnosed by my primary).

Then I saw my GYN in May and she put me on clomid, and told us to BD starting on day 9 or 10, then every other day. So to be safe, we started on day 7, then every other day until day 19. and it worked on the lowest dose.

It was such a shock. I didn't think it would happen that fast!!

Oh, and I cannot WAIT until we see the sex, and yes, I am afraid they will say its a low chance, or that the little bugger will hide their gender!!

I just watched the sex in the city episode last night, when miranda finds out its a boy. LOL. I was laughing and crying.
