missed period for 2 months

I started a low carb diet back in March and ever since then my period has been irregular. I usually get my period late by 6 weeks. I didn’t get my period in July or August. Why could this low carb diet be causing this? My period only started to get irregular when I started to low carb so I am just assuming that it’s my diet that is causing the lateness, or could it be something else and its just a coincidence that my period has been different since the low carb?

Hi,

I'm no expert at this, But I can say that my cycle changed while low carbing. I have read many posts with the same situations. Unless you may be preggo, then it is your body trying to adjust to this WOE. Hope all is well.

I dont know if this has anything to do with my missed periods but I have been having stomach pains, in the front and a tightening feeling from both sides of my stomach. And I'm a virgin so I can't be preggo.

It's definately a good idea to go to a doctor, but I had the same experience with low carb, except my symptoms were the opposite of yours.

My periods were HEAVY, painful and long. And sometimes I'd get a period every 3 weeks, etc.

I know that a lot of women have said that Atkins affected their periods.

Remember that anytime your body undergoes a serious change (like losing weight or changing diet) it can cause your body to go out of whack for a while. This, I'm pretty positive judging by my own experience, can also affect your period.

Just a word of caution: be prepared for your doctor to poo-poo your diet and even recommend that you get off of the diet. A lot of doctors freak out when they hear "low carb" because frankly they're uneducated about it. I had that experience a couple of weeks ago and I'm just saying prepare yourself to hear this.

I hope everything is okay, please keep us posted and let us know how you are doing!

Lucky for me my doctor was once heavy and went on a low carb diet and lost a lot of weight, so I doubt she will tell me to get off the diet.
