Postpartum Pudge

Hi there!

Great to see so many of you that were TTC have done so. Congratulations! I am also pulling for those of you that are now TTC.

I was blessed with a beautiful baby boy on May 8th of this year. After 3 months of difficulties breastfeeding (I had to supplement with formula) my baby decided to throw in the towel. He was very patient with me, but he has already started teething, and I don't think he was up for all of the extra work involved.

While I am so grateful that we at least had a few months of nursing, I am pretty down about it coming to an end. So....I've decided it's time for a distraction. Time to get it together. A mommy makeover, if you will.
I've gotten highlights for the first time in a year, I'm using those slimy whitening strips on my teeth...and most of all....I'm ready to let go of this POSTPARDUM PUDGE!!!

I'm looking for partners on this venture. Some folks that are ready to be held accountable. Gently. After all, our bodies have been through so much. I would like to nourish and heal while getting more fit.

Anybody with me?

I had a similiar experience with breast feeding and after I got over the guilt of it i started enjoying motherhood way more! I gained 76lbs during my bedridden pregnancy and in 7 months have lost all but about 15lbs of it- so hang in there!

Lucky- it actually wasn't for me. I lost 60+lbs before pregnancy in less than 4 months. After pregnancy I lost quite a bit off the top naturally, but when I started LCing again in March, it has taken me until now to lose about 30lbs. But I know others who have lost weight easier after baby. It depends on if you breast feed and now that effects you (sometimes you lose fast when you do, and for others you eat so much more you don't- I was SOOOO much more hungry when breastfeeding than I ever was when I was pregnant! and I had no time/energy to exercise- but that was my own experience). The key is to try to stay healthy during pregnancy. My post baby body is just very different than my pre baby body- I have hips and a butt that I never had before.........but all worth it!

Thanks for replying!

Tarrah...I hear ya. The breast feeding thing never went as I had "dreamed," so now that I've stopped torturing myself...I feel so much better. I could not be happier or more in love with my baby!

luckylychee...weight-wise, I put on about 45lbs. Giving birth and the week following, I lost 25 lbs. I thought, hey, this isn't going to be so bad. hah. In three and a half months I have managed to put 5 lbs BACK ON! So, I agree with Tarrah. Take care of yourself while pregnant. I ate pretty well, but I didn't exercise at all. I had always worked out before pg, but I just didn't have the energy!

Sooo, here I am with the only woe that works for me. Thanks for the encouragement!

Hi everyone!

I am sorry there are still many of us with pudge issues. I still have pudge issues too. I was doing really well and then... well, I am not sure what happened. I started baking a lot of carbs (a LOT) and things just got real ugly.

Fortunately, I haven't gained back much of what I lost after giving birth. HOORAY!!! Now I just have to get myself back on track with the carbs. And I have a house full of carbs.... and my partner is a carb junkie. I do all the cooking. See where this is going?

However, I am using this weekend to go grocery shopping, pick up a pilates tape and I plan to be back on track monday.

It's hard. I feel like, as a mother, I have very little control over my time. Everything I do depends on my son's behavior. Not only that, but as a home-maker, I feel like I am dependant upon my bf. I used to be a strong, independant woman. I just don't feel that way anymore and I know that contributes to my depression, which contributes to my bad eating, which again contributes to my depression. *sigh*

I am working on getting my business back up off the ground. I need something to focus on other than my son's eating/sleeping/pooping habits and my BF's favorite foods.

Anyhow, just wanted to say HI! Good luck to everyone!!!

~~Kate

Hi Kate,

While this is an extraordinary thing, it's also an unbelievably life changing event. I had always heard that from mothers, but I never really GOT it. I certainly did the depression-carb-binging for the first couple of months. I was over the moon in love with my baby, but I was totally blown away by the enormity (is that even a word? ) of it all.

And, yeah, not earning any money of my own is strange. The few times dh has been alone with the baby for an afternoon, tho, has proven my worth to him! He says he doesn't know how I do it all day every day!!
(edited to say: I didn't mean to make dh sound like an ogre...I think he kinda liked me to begin with... )

Good luck to you in your search for balance. While I am thrilled to be a mommy totally immersed in baby land for now...I know it's important that we don't 'lose' who we are as women....

kbeth

Hi fellow mommies!

I had my beautiful twins on May 16th, 2006. I'm feeling very unattractive and yucky and decided to back to low-carbing. A coworker is joining me.

Just wanted to say hi!

Welcome, isabellekitty!! And congratulations on the blessed event!! I gave birth on May 8th and just went back on lc. Looks like we're on similar schedules.

In the last few weeks I've had sooo much more energy and have lost a few lbs. It feels so good!

Let me know if you and your friend need any support. I know I could always use it!
