3 periods in a months time since atkins

i just started atkins on 7/22 of this year. since then i've gotten my period 3 times 7/25 (was a bit early), 8/14 and now again today 8/22.

i've always had irregular periods but they were always late never early like this. the only time i ever came close to something so bizzare with my cycle was when i originally gained the weight (rapidly while on medication) and my period would last about 3 weeks at a time.

i was wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them since starting atkins? i'm doing really well on this program and would hate to stop it but i've always had tremendously painful periods and these frequent ones are no exception. could it be i'm missing some vitamins or something? i'm making an appt with the doctor but just wanted to know if anyone had experience with this.

thanks,
diana

Have you had all your hormone levels checked by chance? It sounds like they are unbalanced. I had mine done recently with Saliva testing, you can pick a kit based on which hormones you want checked. I got my kit from a compounding pharmacy that specializes in bioidentical hormone replacement. I heard from them today as they have the results but are waiting for my doctor to give the ok for treatment. My understanding is you need estradiol, progesterone, DEHAS ?sp, testosterone, 4x cortisols... these should give a clear picture of which one or ones may be off.

Atkins never made my periods more frequent but they were always heavy.
Hope you get some answers.

Kerry

Diana,

I wish I could remember where I read this....but, something along the lines of...estrogen is stored in fat and when you lose it rapidly, it can cause spotting. It was happening to my gfriend when she started Atkins. It stopped after a couple of months.
You could do a search on it and maybe find more along the lines of what I read.

Good luck!

I think it is the estrogen, and the loss of fat. Estrogen is stored in fat. I know since losing, my periods are all over the place.

That might explain why I have a lot more bleeding and cramping then in the past. I am still on same schedule but I am suffering a lot more too.
