Welcome to the ~*~Pregnant or TTC~*~ thread (formerly Pregnant or Trying)! This is a group of ladies who are trying their darndest to have a lowcarb or lower/better carb pregnancy, and for those trying to get pregnant on a lowcarb plan. We hope to encourage each other to have a healthier pregnancy!

*NOTE* This thread is NOT about dieting to lose weight while pregnant. You should NEVER do that. August 1st...18 days late, and a test that is still coming out negative.

I'm frustrated and ready to give up.

Breast are starting to hurt a bit but for me, that means Aunt Flo is on her way. I believe I had a slight fever yesterday and went to bed early feeling tired.

I'm sure she'll show her ugly face today or tomorrow.

Haxelsmrf, Randibrown - thanks for the heads up that it may be the prenatal. I will check with doc.

I am a little disappointed in my OB. He has been my GYN for 8 years and is a very sweet professional man however the last few times I felt rushed or like things were not explained well. I also get the feeling like he is brushing my concerns off. For example, I wanted to take extra supplements like calcium (i will not drink milk), magnesium (consipation), glucosimin (joints) etc and he kinda blew me off with out even being willing to discuss the pros and cons. All he said is why and what if you get to much?

We will see how my next appt goes but I may have to switch doc's especially if he tells me that I have to wait for pain killer during labor verses getting it when I ask for it. I read in some mag that a women can choose when and it should be given even if she is not dielated to 4 cm.

Hi all, I've actually been around LCF for about 4 years now, but I get busy with work/home stuff and I don't come around that often. I have a wonderful 2yo son, and DH and I have decided to start trying for #2. I've been off the pill since June, and while we've been going au naturel, if you get my drift, since then, we haven't been actively trying. TOM is due for me this week, if I get it (Monday was 28 days from the start of my last cycle, and I'm usually in that 28-30 day range, pill or no pill). I did buy a box of tests this morning, just to have them on hand. Anytime between now and the end of October would be a fine time for me to conceive, as far as I'm concerned.

On the LC side of things, well, I haven't been doing so well. I try to stick with it, and then I'll eat something I shouldn't. Today is a little better than yesterday, but the day is still young.

I did find out some interesting information at my annual GYN checkup last week. My OB said that she has no idea why women are supposed to wait 3 months after going off the pill to start trying, and basically gave me the go-ahead even though it's only been 2 months. She also said, to my great delight, that even if I do get pregnant soon, I can continue to do my regular 10 mile bike rides, as long as I stick to paved trails. That's really the only form of cardio that I can stand to do.

Anyway, good luck to all who are pregnant and TTC!

Just popping in to say hey! Thanks Luna for starting us out!

Not too much to going on around here. Been working and going to my bi-weekly chiropractic appointments. Oh, and we hired a doula last week too! Another lady near the top of our list of candidates will probably be her backup, since they are friends....so that's cool.

This is my personal opinion, but waiting 3 months *might* be a good idea. I got pregnant with my son the first month I was off the pill. I was on a low-dose estrogen-dominant pill. Well, my morning sickness was HORRIBLE! I was on anti-nausea medicine and STILL throwing up. Morning sickness is thought to be caused by progesterone increases.....ever hear of "progesterone poisoning"? My theory is that being on an estrogen-dominant pill for over 4 years made me extra sensitive to the progesterone that flooded my system after getting pregnant. Maybe if we had waited a few months the natural progeterone in the latter half of my cycle might have accustomed me to it a bit more before the huge surges in pregnancy. Anyway, that's just my opinion.....I could be totally wrong, LOL! FWIW, the morning sickness this times was no where near as bad as last time, and I have a hard time believing it is just because it is a second child. I think it is because my body was more used to the hormones this time.

Just when I thought

this was it....just when I started to let my guard down and allow myself to feel like, perhaps this IS IT!

I just got my period. Today is day 19, my GOD, 19 days late....I was starting to feel hope.

Caught me by surprise, I want to cry and can't.

Better just get over it and move on right.

Hugs for AF. Is being late normal for you? If not, maybe a visit to the doc could be useful.

I've been have late moments for the past year, a bit more.

Every 2 to 3 months I'm late anywhere from 7 to 11 days. This is the first time I'm late 19 days.

I have an docs appointment on Friday that I'm keeping and I'm going to tell them I want all kinds of test run on me.

I hate when they do the whole, oh you just have to lose some more weight crap. It pisses me off. It's more then what I weigh, something isn't normal and it must be taken care of.

Irregular periods mean irregular ovulations and we want another baby, so they better get there butts off there darn chairs and tell me something new other then, it's your weight.

Sorry for the rant, I'm frustrated.

I know it is frustrating. I do know that often weight does effect your menstration. After 7 years of no pregnancy- the day I got to goal I found out I was pregnant- maybe just a fluke- but I had a lot more problems with my cycle before losing the weight. But I agree that you should have some tests run to rule everything else out.

Good idea about talking to a doc about the late periods.

I did not know I was pregnant unil I was 13 weeks because I kept having a period and never took a preg test. But each month my period came later and later until nothing. Thats when I took a test.

Metroames - I am interested in getting doula. I checked with two hospiitals where my insurance is taken and they did not even know what the heck I was talking about. How can I check to see if any are in my area? How much do they cost?

Go to the dona website (do a google). You will find a list for the doulas available in your area. If you search further you may be able to find a doula that is working on her certification and will cost you nothing! Most certified doula cost about $500 on average; but some cost more or less based on experience and qualifications. Some doulas will even barter with you if you can't afford them. Also, check the hospitals in your area....they may even have a doula program. Ours does and has on-call doulas for free....but I really wanted my own so I can get to know her and feel comfortable with her before-hand. So I'm willing to pay for one.

I can't tell you how thankful I am that I had a doula the last time. I am convinced that her advice and information she provided me helped me avoid unnecessary interventions. And the support she provided during labor was awesome! Hope that helps!

AFWife - are you temping or charting at all to see when you're ovulating? A couple times in the last few months, that has saved me from some serious grief, since I knew not to expect AF until later, so I didn't end up thinking I was actually late. Regardless, I agree that a trip to the doc is in order. Don't let em push you around. You are the patient and have the right to some answers

Yes, I've been charting for 2 years now. That's why I know I'm late. I had my period June 13 and I get it every 31 days so it was to come July 14 and it didn't.

But wait, what do you mean, you knew to expect AF later? When you ovulate you get your AF later then expected?

Does one not ovulate every month? I've heard of woman who don't that's why I'm asking?

AF- some women don't ovulate every month. And some women periodically ovulate late which makes AF later. Other things that can make it late are losing/gaining weight, a change in physical activity, a change in eating patterns, stress, ect.

That's very interesting.

How would I know if this is what is happening to me.

I'm seeing the doc on Friday, what questions should I ask?

I have been under alot of stress lately. This is our last year in the military and moving back stateside is making me nervous.

Plus the anxiety of wanting to have another baby, constantly thinking about it is stressing me out.

Just want to let you know that I feel your stress. DH got out of the USMC a little over a year ago and we went through that as well. Few questions to ask you.....the doc will probably ask you this too.

have you been on the pill recently- if so how long were you on it and how long have you been off it?

How long have you been actively TTC?

Are your periods normal?

I'm not a huge fan of temping since there are too many variables. Perhaps try the ovulation pee sticks, I've had more luck with those.

As far as what to ask the doctor- I'd ask for a routine hormone check. It may depend on where you are in your cycle if they can do the tests. There is something magical about day 21, but some tests can be done anytime. It depends how long you have been TTC on what they will do. Military docs never were very helpful to me. I had more than one tell me I'd never have children- no good reason given just that I had unexplained infertility and would probably never be able to get preggo. They just aren't the best trained in the world.

Low carbing is one of the best things you can do to help your reproductive system- IMO. It regulates your blood sugar and there is some connection between that and your hormone levels- nothing that I'm qualified to try to explain. But i believe it nonetheless.

But do be expecting them to tell you to lose weight- it does make a difference. But there is no reason you should have to put your TTC on hold while you do it. Tell him you are working on that. Tell him (and be honest) about your weight loss efforts. If you haven't been successful in spite of a good honest effort that may be a sign of something that they could check for (things like PCOS for example).

I think the most important thing is to be HONEST with your doc (and with yourself). Tell him what you are feeling, tell him about your eating and exercise habits, tell him about the added stress. I use to try to rose color my answers to the doc but realized that didn't help me. Even if their answer isn't what you like at least you know you gave them all the info. And if you STILL aren't comfortable, ask for another doc. Harder to get in the military but eventually they usually will let you go for a second opinion, even if you have to go to a civi doc and pay the certain % out of pocket. May be worth it.

And in the end- you just have to have faith that babies come when the world is right for them to arrive. I learned that lesson over 7 years of believing I'd never be a mother. I learned it again a few months ago with a miscarriage. But it helps me sleep at night knowing- and BELIEVING that there is a plan out there for every blessing and it is worth the wait.

Thanks Tarrah!

I've always told them honestly all my answers, but they get so lazy and instead of taking you in for blood work and other exams they say, come back when you've lost another 30 pounds honey you just need to lose more weight.

I'm like, HELLLLOOOOO LOST 80 POUNDS ALREADY! Very frustrating.

First time we went I had lost 110 pounds and they were still saying the same broken record thing, lose weight. It's as bad as telling me to take motrin. hahahahaha

It's true though, military doctors, aren't the best and not that they can't be, they are just lazy and like to just get paid for doing nothing.

Can't wait to go tomorrow, someone's gonna get an ear full.
