Endometriosis - who has it here?

I met with my doctor yesterday and one of my concerns was the very bad pain/pressure I'm having when I get TOM or when I ovulate. It was so bad on Friday with TOM that I laid on the couch all day and ate Advil like candy. My doc said it's up to me as to when the pain gets so bad that I have surgery - I have fertility problems and had some removed before that I didn't know I had while my doc was doing surgery for other things so I know all about the surgery but I don't want to do it just yet. What do you do to relieve the pain? He mentioned birth control pills, I just don't know if I want to do that.

One doc gave me two choices. One was to go on hormones that would basically put me into menapause for around 6 months hoping that would kill the endo (temp). Second was surgery. The second opinion (the endo specialist I now see) said the hormone treatment seemed stupid for an otherwise, young healthy person and wanted to do the surgery. I was going in for surgery when I found out about Kyle (after 6 years, that was quite a coincidence!)

Birth control isn't really an option for me b/c of blood clots- but I'm not sure (I could be wrong) that it is a permanant solution- right? Well, I guess really no treatment is permanant as the tissue almost always returns.

My doc told me to take motrin for the pain- and I have to say for me it works better than anything else. Well, except the vicodin! lol i spend a lot of time in a hot bath tub around Otime and during TOM. I get a massage- doesn't really help the pain much but feels good enough to distract me for an hour.

Just know you aren't alone. I can't compare my life with yours, of course, but I do understand the physical pain.

Thanks Tarrah. Gosh this truly sucks! I know my mom had endo really bad while I was growing up and I remember her bending over and walking funny and I was thankful my periods were never that bad. She had a hysterectomy at age 38 it got that bad. I'll be 37 next month, and I've thought about her when dealing with this. Dh is really concerned that it just happened to get bad around the time of my D&E but my RE said it's purely coincidental. Lucky me, eh? I'll pick up some Motrin, I thought about naproxen and my RE said that it's Aleeve - I cannot take lots of things since they both my stomach and make me sick so I'm stuck with over the counter stuff. 800mg of Motrin doesn't bother me though so maybe I'll ask for that.

My mom had endo too, as did my aunt and grandmother. They had hysterectomys in their late 20's because it pretty much killed their reproductive system. Of course they know more now than they did then. I knew years ago I was headed there- just holding out as long as I can. My mom and aunt were both blessed with one child but never could have another one. It does suck. bad.

If you decide to adopt or use a surragate will you have the hysto? It boils down to pain or hormone craziness I guess.

Hi,
I'm pretty sure I have endo.....I have been hurting so bad during my period that I can't walk. Even wanted to go to the ER the last time, but didn't. I just took some pain pills (left over from bulging disc in neck). And let me tell you, I hurt all the way from below my belly button down into both legs. Even my rectum hurts! Anyway....called my GYN, and she has started me on the pill. Don't know if it's going to help or not, but I guess I'll try it. I don't want to have a hysterectomy (I know I didn't spell that right). That just scares me. I'm only 38. I'm actually getting to the point where I'm terrified to start my period. It's affecting my job and my life. Man, it's hard being a woman.

My endo affects by bowels too. I always thought I was crazy and didn't tell anyone about the painful pressure in my bowel area during TOM, but my doc said it is caused by the endo. Strange.....

Yup, my bowels too, also if I have a full bladder, I get lots of pressure. Oh lovely!! My RE (reproductive endocrinologist) suggested the pill for me too but I'm not ready to go there.
