Yet another TOM question
I am wondering if it normal to gain weight both during TOM and also during ovulation? This is how my weight has gone in the past month: Today I am up 18lbs since last week(I am ovulating). Last week I was down 12lbs from the previous week when I was up 6lbs(TOM) from the week previous to that.
I mostly follow meat/egg with the occasional lettuce to wrap meat in if that makes any difference. |

I am not really sure. I know alot of people seem to retain water during TOM. I actually lose weight during that time.

I've heard a few ladies mention that they seem to gain around O time. I think it's a YMMV thing, but nothing to worry about - just frustrating to see that darn scale go up
Hopefully you get a little whoosh when it goes away! ![]() |

I have this problem. I only lose once a month after TOM has departed. Then I fluctuate up three pounds and down three pounds the rest of the month....I'm expecting to dip down again when the next TOM is over.

Interesting that you should ask this! I have been wondering the same thing! I definitely gained with my last TOM, and now that I look back at my Fitday, I gained slightly 2 weeks prior! Not as dramatic as my TOM gain, but enough to make me scratch my head! I gained this past week too, but I don't think I ovulated - no signs. It's hard to tell with me right now because my cycles are somewhat erratic due to nursing.
But perhaps there IS a pattern??????? |

I tend to gain about 5 pounds about a week before I start. Once I've started my period the 5 pounds disappears. It can be very frustrating.

Yes, I'm in the same boat. I retain water at O time, lose it after and then retain water again for TOM. It is frustrating, but once you recognize the pattern you know it is only water and will leave again soon. It's definitely an annoyance, but it doesn't bother me so much since I know it's not a weight gain. Crazy hormones!

It's very frustrating and I too have fluctuations that make no sense at all. But there is a definate pattern relating to hormones. Also, I have to be extrememly careful of sodium. And since I have totally elminated wheat I have seen marked improvement. I gain less on the "up weeks" and have been losing fairly constistantly afterwards.

Ovulation is the worst time of the month for me; I get headaches, lose energy, and gain (water) weight....this month is my first while low carbing and I was hoping it would be better, but unfortunately it was about the same. Oh, and I also crave carbs like crazy whether I am low carbing or not. I managed to stay away from them but it was difficult.
(I also will drop weight when my period starts.) Has anyone found a remedy to relieve some of these symtoms? Please share if you have! Thanks. MJ |

I have been using chaste berry (vitex) to help with my cycle and it seems to relieve some PMS symptoms too. You can google it and there is research to show it helps with symptoms.

Well, here I am, ovulating (I think LOL), and sure enough, gained 1.5 lbs. overnight. So perhaps this is what my body does - gains slightly during O time?????

Yes, and some of us gain a lot! I used to gain about 5 lbs., now that I've been low carbing it is about 3 lbs. We all react to it differently though...some people cannot even tell they are ovulating--which is hard for me to imagine since it is the absolute worst time of the month for me.
My period is welcome relief. |
