It's not as likely as false negatives.

I could go out and buy a pregnancy test right now and it would be positive. Every home test I've ever taken has been positive. But I've only been pregnant once, briefly, in 1988. Blood tests are the only way to find out for sure with me.

I swear, I'm not normal.

Nowadays, I don't worry about it, because I figure pregnancy is like chicken pox.... you have to get exposed to it before you can get it.

I was told I wasn't pregnant because I only had one line and a faint line.

Here is the faint line, almost 9 years later.

I never needed a test. Pretty much from conceiving, I was barfing my guts up and had sore breasts.

Had the same results as tiggerr - false negetive - almost 21 years later - what a blessing! Dr at clinic told me I had probably just performed test wrong..had regular periods for 4 mo's into pregnancy!

Some of the tests that they have now are very sensitive and can detect a hormone change that may occur even before a fertilized egg totally implants. I'd wait a few days and test again.

This is what I understood from my Dr anyways when we were trying to concieve anyways.

Congrats

He is after his sister, the joy of my life. I was told I'd NEVER have children.
I was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 1992, had surgery and conceived DD in 1993, DS in 1997.

Noone tells a tiggerr she can't do something.

I had one period after each time I got pregnant and only took a pregnancy test with my first daughter because I felt very "off". I've never had a false positive or negative with a urine teat but I do agree that blood tests are the way to go for certainty.

Tiggerr- that's certainly the cutest faint line I've ever seen,

Is this positive a good thing? If not, there's still time for plan B emergency contraception? Or not, depending on how late you are

And to answer the original post..false positives are pretty rare from what I understand. I've never had one myself.

Never a false positive, only false negatives (unless you are Jean of course or have an early miscarriage (which happens frequently and most women just think it is their normal period)

I've only taken one HPT in my life... DD is the positive result!

But, then again...I knew I was pregnant BEFORE I took the HPT... just knew. (And I was on the BCP!!! )

Well my husband and I weren't trying.. So it would be unexpected.. but the only reason why I ask that is cause... I bought a box that had seven tests.. I took 3 and they were negative.. and I went to the DR cause I hadn't had TOM for 4 months..so I know I wasn't pregnant... and I just found it weird that all the sudden when I went off my eating plan.. 2 were positive and lastnight when I took the last one it was negative..

I agree with the blood test contingent. At least call your doc and let him/her know what's happening. Congrats if you're PG!
