PCOS
I was just diagnosed with PCOS last summer, at the time I was at a healthy weight and in good shape so my doctor put me on BC to regulate my periods. After a year of BC and college I gained like 30 pounds because of the stress BC etc... so I'm of that and I'm trying to lose the weight I put on by cutting carbs since PCOS is directly related to insulin resistance. Anyone else dealing wih PCOS? Is cutting carbs the most effective way to manage it? I guess I'm just curious about other people's experiences.

Low carb is the best way to eat if you have PCOS. Don't get discouraged if you don't lose as fast as others. The PCOS causes us to lose slower. Hope this helps ![]() |

I was dx'd with PCOS about 8 years ago. Do you take Metformin? Are you on any meds for this? Low carb + metformin are the keys...I have gained and loss gained and loss but the only thing that has ever worked is low carbing...good luck. There are also several bb for PCOS out there.

Yup, I got it, too. I'm currently trying to lower my body fat % (since excess body fat can increase levels of estrogen).
I'm not necessarily doing this by doing very low-carb, though. I'm doing Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle (see the Muscle Matters board) and I wonder if this is the best approach. I'm guessing so, since I'm focusing on losing body fat, rather than WEIGHT loss. (I eat anywhere from 60-120g carbs a day). Anybody know if weight loss vs. fat loss is best for alleviating symptoms of PCOS? |

I was diagnosed many years ago. I think that lowcarbing and taking Metformin
helps tremendously. |

Just my two cents here, I havent replied on this board in a while. I am currently going to a reproductive endo for fertility treatments and seeing a nutrionist there who specializes in PCOS, here suggestions are 40% carbs, 35% fat and 25% protein. For me, she recommends 1600 calories a day. I was also under the impression the lower carb the better with pcos, but she doesnt believe that. She says you body has to have some of these things to make start working better, along with weightloss obviously. I am beginning clomid this month d/t the pcos and anovulation. Hope this helps !
