Girls: losing estrogen w/fat ?
I'm a 31 y/o and have been on BCP for 6 mo following baby#2 without problems. I have lost 15 lbs in the last 3 mo doing LC and now my cycles are all messed up. My HC provider thinks I am losing estrogen along with the lost body fat. She recommended me to continue with BCPs and see if my body gets regular. If not, I may need pills with MORE estrogen!
Have any of you other LC ers gone through anything like this? Any thoughts on the estrogen loss? Thanks. |

Well I haven't ever combined BCP with weightloss, usually it was the other way around
But, I had a lot of hormonal issues coming off of BCP. I was on them for 3 years and then went off them. Messed me up for 9months. If you aren't trying to conceive a baby right now, BCP could still be a great option, especially if they can give you some more estrogen. |

When I was on BCP (and lowcarbing) if I was even a few hours late taking my Pill (ortho tri-cyclen) I started spotting. If I was eating anything and everything, it didn't seem to happen. I asked my doctor and she said that because I was releasing the estrogen stored in my fat cells (along with the excess fat in them), it made the hormone balance easier to knock out of whack. But, that the pills were still working.

Along with losing estrogen from fat loss, carbohydrates themselves have powerful effects on hormones in the body. My friend's first period when switching to low carb recently was a week late!

Yes. My TOM is messed up too. It was late. I'm hoping it will get lighter but I don't want it to stop. So the releasing of the estrogen does what, when fat dissolves?
