Histerectomy questions???? those who have had one..

No, I am hoping it is not on the horizon but I was wondering just in case. I had an edometrial ablation that included removing a polyp that showed Atypical hyperplasia. Six months later I had a hystercopy/endometrial biopsy that came back o.k. Now, the endometrial tissue did not show atypical hyperplasia, just the polyp did....

Anyway, have been reading alot about it (I am due to go back June 1 for another hystercopy/endo. biopsy just to check things out...it has been about 1 1/2 years since the last one) and well what I read points to atypical hyperplasia being a type of "maybe turn to cancer" concern thing....so, hope you can see where my mind is headed.

Anyway....was just wondering, from those of you who have had to have their uterus removed....what are the down points to this....effects on your life and well as sex life....I have heard that there can be issues with the bladder when the uterus is not there for support..... Just curious, because if Atypical shows up in the endo lining.....I think it might just have to be kicked to the curb. I am 53 and children are not the issue....my life is, but was just wondering what to look forward to in the way of medical/feel good issues if it would have to go.

This has been a year of "scares" for me....I hope this does not become a habit.....

Vicki

Vicki,

I had my hysterectomy (a total) 3 months ago and have had absolutely no problems............ I was even lucky enough to have an uneventful recovery...... I am 49 and had the abdominal incision......

I was diagnosed with the hyperplasia also, and decided that I didn't want to wait and give it the chance to turn into something more......

If you want to talk more, feel free to PM me.........

Did they take your ovaries too??? I thought if you kept them your hormones were not suppose to be affected.

I had a hysterectomy 6 years ago.

Please get a gasless lacroscoprophy. I have no scar and actually found it a pleasant experience. No Joke! But I did take demorol! Great stuff! Lol! . I went grocerecy shopping the next day, on the way back from the hospital. Not for long but still. I was a bit tired for two weeks. That was it. They started me on estradiol immediately and I experienced no hot flashes or symptoms(only when i ran out of pills, duh!)
You must get really serious about weight loss though , or you could gain. And you will "mourn' a bit, at least I did. I never thought I would miss my period, but it was the end of an era. I had hoped to go into menopause at the right time naturally, but no one in my family has so the odds were against me. Good luck but my wonderful surgeon said to avoid the pain and discomfort, gasless was the way to go! Also , if you smoke, stop for two weeks before. It definately helps the healing. I think that is one reason I don't have any kind of a scar!

I had my hysterectomy 3 months ago. They took everything, and I am glad they did because i would not want them to go back in there again. I had an adominal incision and half of it came open when they took the staples out. I had to get it packed and heal from the inside out. In spite of the slow healing, I do not regret the surgery at all. No more pain, no more heavy bleeding, no more hauling "monthly supplies".

My bladder is fine. In fact, I dont have to run to the bathroom as often as I did before the surgery. I think there was so much swelling from the cysts and endo that it put pressure on the bladder.

My sex life is just fine. We waited until around 8 weeks due to my slow healing and took everything slowly the first few times.
