Cervical Dysplasia - Hysterectomy
So, after a colposcopy, biopsy, and ECC, I've been diagnosed with CIN III in my upper cervical canal. This is the worst level of dysplasia before it turns to cancer. Next Friday, I'm scheduled for a cone biopsy (cut the bottom portion of the cervix off), an ECC (scraping of the cervical canal), and D&C. From all of this, they'll find out how far into the cervix it's spread. There's a slight possiblity that this will clear all of the abnormal cells out. Odds are though, that they will have to keep doing the procedures till they get all of the cells out. I do have another option. I can get a hysterectomy removing the uterus and cervix, but leaving the ovaries. I'm strongly, strongly considering this option. I'm 27 and have two kids and don't want anymore. I just don't know if I can handle numerous procedures only to have to wait and see if it pops up again on my next pap.
Anyone been through this before? Have any advice???

While I don't have a ton of advise I can tell you that I'm in the same boat. I had my pap done at my 3 month OB op and it came back bad. I've had 3 biopsies since then (each more painful than the last) and am scheduled to have my final one before the baby comes on the 23rd. They are trying to decide what they want to do about all this and in the mean time I feel like they're cutting off chunks of my cervix just for the heck of it. This is out third and final baby. I'm not very old but cervical and uterin cancer is in about 90% of the women in my family and I feel very uncomfortable with simply removing a small piece and then having to come back year after year and do it again. With in 1 year I went from clear to lv 3 high grade so even doing a pap and biopsy every 6 months probably wouldn't be enough to catch a change before it went very badly my doctor is not offering the option of removing my uterus but if he was I would take it in a heart beat. I'd rather be in labor 5 times than do another biopsy.

In a weird way, I can relate. In February when they did the initial pap, they did it b/c I was pregnant. I ended up miscarrying a couple weeks later. I was so upset (I didn't want more kids, but once I was pregnant I adjusted to the idea really quick). Recently it occured to me that I would be a mess if I was pregnant and having to deal with all of this. I don't know how you do it. You are a strong, strong woman I, like you, progressed very quickly in a years time. It's scary how something can be changing like that in our bodies and we don't even know it. Have you consulted a gynocological oncologest? From what I've heard the majority of them recommend hysterectomies when someone is at the level that we are at. They'd rather be safe then sorry. and more to you! |

No, I haven't seen an oncologist. I have to have a recomendation from by OB to do that and they said its not to that point yet. They're going to do this last biopsy and if theres any change then thats who I'll be going to see but if no change then I will just have baby normaly and then have the cone procedure, probably around 6 weeks post delivery.

I went through the same situation about two years ago...
The doctor believed that he "got everything" when I went into the hospital for my procedure. Three months later, I had another bad pap. The next two paps were fine. I go back for my annual exam next month. As a precaution, my OB/GYN sent me to an OB/GNY oncologist who specializes. So far, so good. Again, we'll see next month. I'll send good wishes your way! ![]() |

Hey
I am new to the board but,Today I think I gained some insight on something that I have been too chicken to deal with. I have been thinking for months that I have Cervical Cancer. It's weird because I haven't gone to a GYN because I don't have health insurance but, I am at the point where I really believe I have something wrong with me. I was talking with a friend and she was telling me about her having had cervical cancer for a couple of months now I have had an increase pain in my pelvic area and tenderness in my lower stomach. Reading your post has really made me want to get a Dr's appointment a.s.a.p. Call it intuitution but, I really know that there is something wrong. Although I could be wrong. I just want to thank you for your post. I will keep you updated when I go to my appointment. I am w/ you though I would just have a hysterectomy because I have my tubes tied anyways. Thanks again. |

Jade, I could be wrong, but I think that you can go to planned parenthood to get paps. I don't think they're free, but it's a lot cheaper then it would be if you went to see a regular ob/gyn. Please keep us posted. Hopefully, you'll just have a basic infection that can be healed with antibiotics!

The baby is due mid July but I've gone early, some times very early. My husband gets home from Deployment next week as long as I make till then I'm happy
![]() What Jade was describing sounds more like an infection. You can't "feel" cervical cancer unless its grown into a rather large tumor. If you pollups in your uterus or some thing like that you could definately feel it though. |

to you gals going through this. In late 02, same week DH got Iraq orders, I was told my pap came back bad and needed to schedule a colposcopy. The next day, found out DS needed extensive oral surgery. What a week! Anyhow, with DH going to Iraq, we had to switch to military insurance, and a new dr. I had a second pap and it came back fine (within one month).....That was early 2003. I hadn't had a pap again until Feb 06 (for pregnancy)...so that was 3 yrs! And I was BACK at the original place that said I had a bad pap and guess what, it was fine again???? What do you think of that? Just a fluke "bad pap"? Just trying to make some bucks off of me? It could have been bad and the next month it was ok and 3 yrs later it is still ok? Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful I didn't have to go through those procedures, but find it kind of odd.

Hi! The procedure on Friday went very well. I took Monday and Tuesday off of work to rest (I had a tubal ligation along with the cone biopsy and D&C, so the combination of all of them sort of kicked my butt). I'm finally starting to feel back to normal. I was told that the pathology reports would be in today, so hopefully I will know by this afternoon if the cone got all of the dysplasia. I'm trying to think happy thoughts
