Hmmm.....Could that have anything to do with the hormones IN the red meat these ladies were eating??
Bet they weren't eating grass fed, hormone & antibiotic free meat like I do. |

I'm pregnant right now, but I've been eating unlimited amounts of low carb veggies for my carbs and a little fruit. I'll have whole grains every now and then but I find that I end up filling myself up from the veggies. I also must say that I notice a difference now than my last pregnancy (where I ate all kinds of starches) and that's no morning sickness and all kinds of energy. Frankly I've never felt better.

Wow, I think a pound of meat is an awful lot! I don't see how fresh berries, nuts, cheese, meat, yogurt( which I am able to eat and still lose) and lots of veggies can be bad for a baby? I am currently ttc and I am planning on eating a few more carbs during my pregnancy than I am now just to stay out of ketosis.

mocha, you difinitely have the right idea. i think those women in the study did not eat enough vegetation. there needs to be balance because meat, animal foods, (grains/starches/sugar, too) leave an acid residue. so in order to create that balance you need the minerals in produce, also nuts are little power houses, especially eaten rew. i don't think there's any such thing as too much produce when you're pregnant. protein and fat are also extremely important. good luck. we'll be waiting for d-day.

Did they compare this at all to the stress of babies, like my own, that are born with unstable blood sugars due to being born overweight (no fault of their own) to mothers with gestational diabetes brought on by uncontrolled, hideous amounts of simple carbs and straight sugar?
While I wouldn't do meat and eggs only while pg, there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with eating fresh veggies, fats, cheeses, eggs, and yes, even a lb of red meat a day. I often wonder who is behind these studies and what do they stand to gain from them. That's the real story. Because sending out a message like eating a well balanced, wholesome diet causes stress for unborn babies will send some pg mothers straight for the Dairy Queen. |

I had gestational diabetes during both my pregnancies and was recommended by my doctor to go on the Atkins diet during both pregnancies. I did need more carbs than Atkins induction levels (I followed Protein Power and got 27-40 g carbs everyday) and I got those from veg, some fruit and a little yogurt too. Doing so I kept my blood sugars under control and never had to have insulin. Both my babies were "normal sized" 8 lbs 9 oz and 8 lbs and neither were "stressed" whatever the bleep that means.
