PMS and natural remedies questions

Does anyone use all natural remedies to assist in their PMS symptoms?

Alittle history (maybe it will help)

I'm 43 years old, 3 years ago I had my tubes tied and since have experienced severe to moderate PMS.

Moderate being very weepy, severe being absolutely insane out of my mind, I hate everyone and everything (needless to say no one is very fond of me either). All I do is cry for days, I'm barely a functioning human.

I thought I traced the severe symptoms to way to much caffiene. So I cut out caffiene I had a few mild months but I'm back to where I started from. This month was SOOOOOOOOOOO bad, I'm almost afraid of next month.

I dont want to use RX medications unless I absolutely have to.

Any and all suggestions would be appreciated! (by me and everyone that has to deal with me)

WOE: yikes!

I'm 45, tubes tied, PMS that almost ruined my life.
Natural remedies didn't cut it for me. I had to go to the doctor. I am so glad I did as is everyone around me.

I'm 43, tubes tied, etc. PMS was just awful many years ago, Was surfing the web and came across some herbs . . .so I tried them.. WOW - within 20 minutes the anxiety, moodiness, the need to BUST someones skull, would just melt away!!!!

kava kava - can be purchased online at:
http://www.irishnature.com/awa.htm#products
You can also find tons of info on it by going to www.google.com

The only side effect I've read about is Liver problems... if you have liver problems, heavy drinker, etc. then it would not be for you.

I've been using it as needed, for over 5 years. I get my liver checked for Cholesterol meds 2x a year and have had no problems from my use. YES - my doctor knows that I use the herb.

For me it was a better alternative than extra estrogen (which needs to be taken continuously) or OTC crap from the stores. My family and the people I work with think I'm just a happy go lucky person! LOL little do they know!

Good luck and hang in there...

Coool - - Let me know how it works for you... I'm always amazed!

FYI - It comes in tea form also - which isn't too bad for relaxing with before bedtime

Linda, I understand your hope to take natural rather than prescription approaches to help you out. I would advise you to check in with a physician with some alternative medicine familiarity- there are all kinds of potential complications/interactions with herbs and it would definitely be worth consulting someone.

My aunt is a traditionally trained physician and she is learning more about herbals, and truly surprised by how little knowledge her peers have.

I've been researching Vitex (aka chaste berry). It is helpful for PMS symptoms. My health food store had it in capsules or tea form. There is also a tincture available. From what I read it can really help with PMS symptoms.

YES - Please do talk with your doctor before and during taking of herbs . . . My "usage" is well documented and think the doc actually did some reading up on it after I told him about it.

Vitex - Chaste Berry works pretty good - but was way too much of a diuretic for me! Yes my rings would slide off my fingers - but I can't spend that much time piddling!
